For decades I never missed a single magazine but it changed, many of the great writers were
gone. I did not think it was readable anymore.

Because it listened to it's employees when it tried to remain nutral on an issue that it's employees felt strongly enough about to ask the company to make a stand and speak out about the issue in their behalf , instead of hideing in cornor trying to avoid taking a stance.
Employees felt by not taking a stance the Disney Corporation management was supporting something its employees were against .
For that, some people feel Disney should be punished

So why did they do it
I know I said I wasn’t going to comment on this anymore, but screw it. They were already done and it was a futile Hail Mary. They could’ve tried any gimmick and it wouldn’t have mattered. So you should ask them why they did it, but it wouldn’t have mattered anyway.

Decayed from the inside without preserving its dignity
true
One persons point of view of what happened

>The Arena Group has made painfully obvious its lack of journalistic ambition, happily profiting off a reputation that took the better part of a century to build, clumsily slapping its name and likeness onto products not even tangentially related to sports.

To the suits … Sports Illustrated is little more than a cash register, a piggy bank for big business to take from. SI’s precipitous decline should be viewed as a cautionary tale warning against opportunistic VCs blinded by tunnel vision, leaving Sports Illustrated, like so many others undermined by corporate meddling, to die on the vine.”<

It's still a brand that can be monetized. You don't burn that down with fat broads and dudes who think they are women unless something else is at play. Worst move possible.

sometimes trying to expand the subscription base hurts more then helps.
Catering to the core base and giving them more of what they want would have been a better idea.
But chasing the quick buck seemed to be the publishers wished to do while the owner just wanted a hefty licensing fee for right to publish.
That combination also helped SI lose its luster

It’s like a political base !

They hired some woke idiot as their editor in chief who thought it a good idea to give one of the most coveted spots of any magazine to dude's with mental issues and fat chicks.

Idiots.

no they just tried to make a quick buck and not realizing the amount of people that would be offended .
Woke had nothing to do with it, greed was the cause.

There are those that look to whine about anything and everything they don't like.
Sports Illustrate in their quest to make a buck off people not in their core base forgot that fact and seen that trying to expand the amount of people that subscribed to them became losing those who are easily offended.

Check the track record of the guy who decided to do that. Making money is far second to spreading their religion.

Listen to some of those Disney creators about how they weave gay stuff into films as an example.

No surprise as they let their politics destroy their most popular brand, the swimsuit issue.

However a word of caution for hockey fans who like the Hockey News. A few years back S.I. took over A lot of the Hockey News. Now I have not found where H.N. is going out of business, but who knows.

Go woke become a joke
LOL, AI generated stories. I hope the dominoes don't take out the H.N. I haven't cared about S.I. for years.

It is telling no likeminded corporations bailed them out like they gave the NFL that huge deal, despite the NFL giving money back to sponsors.

There is a huge market for dude's pretending to be girls and fat chicks in bikins. Lotta chubby chasers out there apparently.
Actually there are. I'm not one of them but it's pretty clear that there is a market for different body types and looks. It's good business sense for various businesses to cater to that need. It's the market adjusting to previously lost opportunity.

big layoffs today at LA Times...wonder why
Nobody reads anymore, certainly not journalism. They pass messages around on Telegram from God knows where and call it news. It fits their pre-conceived notions so that's all they look at.
