OT: Stock and Investment Talk

And BLNK comes crashing down....

Kind of, saw it 3% in pretrading, then down 13% after the opening bell, now down 10%.

Given the premium I'd be in at around 3.72, It's currently $3.70, so I'm OK with this. Let's see it get back into the $3.90's by week end and I'll be stoked.

Might sell some more puts actually.

Not surprising, BLNK and CHPT really look to be in trouble (or at least will need massive raises again soon). If they go on a run, put/short them.

On a new topic, anyone invested in India? Is India the new China in terms of economic growth and expansion? Goldman and a few other shops issued reports that India is forecast have the highest GDP expansion in 2024. Lots of people have been waiting for India is turn the corner and begin its modern economic expansion, so maybe it is finally happening.

Best ETF play is EPI from WisdomTree.

NRG at all time highs, breaking past resistance that dates all the way back to 2007, a level it was rejected from multiple times over the last 4 years. Those 4 years look like a pretty good base to build off.

EPS has been erratic, but if that can level out, and meet expectations, this could have a nice run.

3% div to boot.

India is interesting. But I'd rather get into the near shoring trade, and specifically Mexico.

Sold GM. 15%. Missed the initial 15ish%. So it's been a big move. Looks like it might be up against a downward trend line.

I over harvested losses(killed on SQQQ early), so I this offset that a bit.

Want to add to RIG, which I'm down in, but could be at a bounce point?

Maybe buy some PFE.

Still holding some F.

Added to PFE and YINN today. Also started a position for UYG (Proshares 2x financials).

MARA is now over $30! When should we buy puts? :)

Ironically, I had massive TQQQ gains to offset. Thankfully, we moved some funds to a new account the day before the top in Jan 2022. LOL! I was able to swap out VOO for IVV, VTV for MVG, and VUG for VONG in early November before the rally began. All good for the year now.

I was thinking COIN.

But yeah, MARA up 150% in a month? Good call there too.
+1
Very good idea on COIN as well. What date would you use? I believe MARA would fall faster than COIN when the tide turns.

The longer you go out, the better in terms of not needing to time the fall. But you pay extra in premium.

I was looking at the COIN June $55's for like $1. I think the Jan 25's were $3.

LOL! I was just looking at COIN $50 Jan 25. Last tick on Fidelity was $3.01. I would lean towards the June timeframe for MARA since that one could drop back to $10 in a blink of an eye. Jan 25 puts for MARA are crazy expensive due to the high vol.

Mike Khouw talking COIN puts on Fast money.

Says go with a spread. Sell the $135, buy the $170. I missed the expiration.

Spreads seem too cute. I would rather be all-in or all-out on a call or put (which are for home run swings). Definitely waiting for Jan to get puts in place for COIN and/or MARA. I believe Jan 10 is the ETF final deadline. I need to look that up!

As long as the bull market in BTC/crypto is running, I wouldn't bank on MARA dropping precipitously. It hit $50 when BTC was at 69k.

MSTR is a different animal and more directly tied to BTC. I can see BTC going up and MARA and COIN still crashing. MARA is shockingly unprofitable and will be less needed when ETFs hit the market.

Isn't MARA and RIOT used for BTC plays since there are no ETFs? Why continue to do so when those hit the market. Just a thought.....

As the price of BTC rises, MARA’s BTC accumulation and production becomes more profitable. 6.5 BTC AT 100k is a heck of a lot more valuable than when the price is at 42k. I believe they mine Ethereum also though I may be wrong about that

Good point, I need to do the math on that. BTC price will continue to go up when the ETFs are approved. I bet COIN is impacted by the ETFs. Less need for an exchange with ETFs readily available.

IMO, Coinbase will thrive. Institutions are planning on using Coinbase to hold the BTC in their ETFs

I said this a few weeks ago, absolutely agree. They’ll hold 90% of the etf buys and no one is leaving coinbase for an etf. If anything they’ll gain more users who become interested in holding their own coins.

And what does COIN earn from that? I think if it is a substantial amount, the big institution's will figure out how to hold the coins themselves.

I also think the fee's they charge to trade have to come down. I know I grew tired of paying them.

Still thinking there will be a significant sell the news event when the ETFs are approved. Then BTC et al will restart the rally to new ATHs.

It seems the institutions either don’t want to or can’t hold their own. How much revenue they bring in remains to be seen.

Coinbase’s biggest threat is the SEC lawsuit which is crumbling day by day. Being approved as the custodian would be a win for them.

Agree on the fees, which they say they’re trying to bring down but that remains to be seen.

No idea. Per Bloomberg:
“While the combined custodial and institutional trading revenue is a fraction of its retail trading sales, the business is a potential growth catalyst with several proposed spot Bitcoin ETF funds planning to use its custody services.”

Btc is likely due for a correction before halving so this timing might line up pretty well.
I would really like to see a correction.....to add to my positions. As for your post about COIN, they are going to beat the SEC. Perhaps even look for a settlement prior to trial.

MULN(edit) up 22% today.

I added a little yesterday, still a tiny position, and I'm still well in the red. If I can get back to green it would be a miracle.

Reports earnings tomorrow. Supposedly.

Why 22%? Just in advance of earnings? Might have to put this one, but I assume the vol is insane.

Sold my gbtc earlier this week. I'll jump back in if it dips.

ATOM is my lone crypto holding at the moment. It's doing pretty good.

Not surprised- I sold my entire position earlier in the week for tax loss harvesting. Wouldn’t have made much of a difference I was so deep in the red but I always laugh when a stock pops a few days after I dump it.

My son just opened a Fidelity Youth Account. They give $50 to start and he’s added another $100. So for $150 any ideas on what to buy? As much as I’m annoyed with MULN that may be a fun one for him to learn the ups and downs. Any suggestions for a teen with $150 burning a hole in his account?

Been buying up Ocugen. Was sitting at .37 just 10 days ago, now at .59 (+59% in 10 days).

They have until the end of April to get back up to $1.00 to maintain their NASDAQ listing.

Very promising pipeline for this biotech.

Real money?

I probably wouldn't go MULN, because it is such an extreme case.

For smaller plays I'd look for companies that are on the verge of profitability, to see how the stock reacts to earnings reports which show they met, or failed to meet that profitability goal.
