OT: Stock and Investment Talk

I bet Tesla would partner with them…part of it would just be for all the data they could collect from the frequent usage
+1
TSLA would benefit from a logistics partner on robo-taxis. The UBER network would be valuable as hell for connecting users and suppliers of the service.

PCE continues to tank. Headline actually went deflationary last month while core barely ticked up (less than expected):

On a six-month basis, core PCE increased 1.9%, indicating that if current trends continue the Fed essentially has reached its goal.

“Adding in the further sharp slowdown in rent inflation still in the pipeline, it’s hard to see any credible reason why the annual inflation rate won’t also return to the 2% target over the coming months,” wrote Andrew Hunter, deputy chief U.S. economist at Capital Economics.

Just heard this tidbit on CNBC.

In a Mag 7 to Russell 2000 rotation, the money from a 2% decline in the mag7 would be enough for an 8% rally in the russell 2k.

That rotation is becoming more and more a talking point. I'm aligned well for it.

Me too via UWM and sizable allocation of other small-cap ETFs. Perhaps it's time for IWM call options? :)

Tom Lee/Fundstrat = 50% gains for small caps in 2024

I think losers, like PFE could benefit as well.

Companies like UA or LEVI?. Not much growth, but a little, and multiple expansion?

Agreed, some of the laggards yet solid companies may benefit with a rotation to value or small caps. Just added to these ETF positions in a few of my accounts. Need to maintain allocation levels.

As for individual stocks, I already bought into PFE and RVTY and will add in the future. Don't know much about UA and LEVI. I haven't spent much time researching individual small caps, but now is the time to do so.

Supposedly, Tom Lee is going to release a small cap stock list soon. Hope so! :)

Neither have been public long, less then 10 years(not sure if Levi was public in a previous incarnation).

Both make more now then pretty much ever, but expect modest growth, both are much closer to all time lows then highs.

Both have upticked lately. Nike moreso then UA. Both have a double bottom in place, Nike on a shorter term, UA on a longer term. That to me suggests a catchup trade for UA. But would love to hear from some of the bigger chart nerds on the board.

Love listening to this guy

Been getting his research for the past 6 months. Shockingly accurate! We called today's PCE numbers to the hundredths place. He said you can model 85% of PCE based on the last CPI print. I guess he's right! LOL.

I believe you can get a free month of access without putting in a payment option.

Saw BLNK with a nice day today. Up 16%. Not sure the why.

But I took a look at it. Sub 2x on price to revs. Sub 1x price to book. Not much dept.

Rev's doubled yoy. 35ish % growth expected next year and the year after. Just announced a deal supplying changes for Mack Truck.

J Brown is an owner of chpt which had been crushed. BLNK has also been crushed but the numbers look better and the stock price did bounce twice off a level so it may have found a floor.

Not profitable.

Not sure about either CPHT or BLNK. Seems like TSLA is well on its way of dominating the charging market. Also, both have crazy short interest, around 30%.

Has any of the promised gov'ment money landed with charging companies?

Finding charging stations continues to be a concern for prospective ev buyers. So plenty of growth in the arena. Think there is more then enough room.

i think setting up stations for municipalities is a segment the smaller companies can do well

As mentioned BLNK just signed an agreement with Mack.

I still do not understand how the tens of thousands of gas stations will make the transition and who pays for it? If the answer is the gov’t it’s going to be an astronomical price tag and take an eternity. Not to mention that gas stations are notorious for having environmental issues and the massive underground tanks will have to be addressed. Then consider the oil/gas infrastructure in this country and the EV pivot seems even less likely. But what do I know…although I did just buy a hybrid which IMO makes the most sense for the foreseeable future.

You are right about the need for at least another charging player (after TSLA). BLNK is probably the way to go. Additional news from last week:

- Kenneth Griffin's Citadel hedge fund has taken a small passive stake in electric vehicle charging stations provider Blink Charging (NASDAQ:BLNK).
- Citadel Advisors on Friday disclosed the 0.4% stake in a regulatory filing. Shares of Blink Charging (BLNK) rose nearly 4% after hours.
- Blink (BLNK) stock saw a nearly 25% gain last month after the company raised its full year revenue guidance and said it was targeting adjusted EBITDA break-even next year.

By the way, Tom Lee and his team are pushing small caps and financials for 2024 (overweight industrials and tech as well). I have plenty of small cap exposure. As for financials, thinking about XLF Jan 2025 $40 calls. Let them ride for most of the year. Alternative idea is UYG (Proshares 2x financials).

Probably why BLNK had an up day over 15% this past week.

My wife who had zero interest in electric cars out of the blue was like for our next car we’re getting a Tesla. She doesn’t follow any of this and couldn’t even tell you the different types of electric cars. She said show me the cars Tesla makes. Ok I want that one in white (model s). Insane with zero commercials on TV or any traditional marketing. She couldn’t tell you any other type of electric cars. Serious brand that Tesla has. Even my 6 year old knows what a Tesla is and says they are cool.

Tesla’s brand is powerful in the EV industry but still caters to higher-end consumers. I see more and more Hyundais on the road everyday. BTW, do most EV owners install whole house generators? We lost power recently in the middle of our new car search and that’s when it occurred to me that power outages for any extended period of time could be a problem for EVs.

I think the dominant Tesla model is fairly inexpensive. Their higher end models have actually seen a decline in sales in recent reports.

They were the lone electic car for years so it makes sense.

Even now 1 out of every 2 electric cars is a Tesla.

They are to EV what Band-Aid was to adhesive bandages.

TSLA's big challenge is to broaden its available models and keep them fresh with updates. They have the expertise and brand equity to do this. Just gotta keep Elon from blowing up. LOL!

I think I will look at hybrids on my next purchase. An EV would have to really have a lot of clear benefits for me to buy any time soon.

I feel as far as the auto business goes, they need to get a sensible truck/suv to the market, maybe the CT, after some redesigns becomes that, but right now I can't see that having mass appeal.

How long can the Model Y keep it's design going? It's one thing to sell a few thousand cars a year, and not redisign, but when you're selling a million a year? They'd be endanger of losing their panache.

Total agreed. The first company to come out with a high-quality EV SUV for under $50k that can be massed produced is going to take a ton of share.

Ha, still looking at BLNK.

Noticed they've missed on earnings every time but once over the last 4 years.

That seems bad. LOL!

FYI - Mike Novogratz was in the bear echo chamber podcast/Guy & Dan and had some pretty good insights (MN is an interesting macro guy). He talked about the 2/30yr spread being the trade next year as it goes from .4 inverted to a forecasted 1.4 uninverted due to the Fed cutting. Makes sense. Listen to the section on "interest rates".

How would like play work? I guess the bet is the 2y yield dropping. I don't think there is a 2/30yr spread ETF.

I brought some ARKK a couple of weeks ago. Any one else go back to some of Cathy Wood funds? Her funds are great when their momentum in the stock market.

ARKK is having an outstanding year, which will likely to continue in 2024 since many of her stocks are very interest rate sensitive. Jumped into a few of her individual holdings, but not ARKK directly.

Sold some BLNK $4 puts that expire this week. .28 cents a contract. So 7%. I hope the stock comes in a little and I get put into it.

Also sold some SOFI calls. $13 strike. Late Jan exp.

Sold RIVN $30 calls as well.

Considered some other positions, looking for that 20-30% upside, but the premiums weren't there.

MULN's 1 year chart looks impossibly bad.

And then I took a look at it's 3 year. Split adjusted this was once a $400,000 stock. It's now at $11.

It is up 11% today though. As deliveries have begun.

So, MULN is now a buy? :)

Biotech and XBI are truly pumping as the Fed rate cutting cycle approaches. This may be the most rate sensitive sub-sector in the entire market.

How does selling puts or calls work? Do you need 100 shares of the stock available if the contract is exercised?
