Students are only allowed 3 guests to their graduation. However, 52,000 people are expected to attend. 12,000 students times three is 36,000. Figure another 1000 people for administrating. Who are the extra 15,000 people who are going?

You did your math wrong. Graduating students are allowed 4 tickets including themselves. So 12,000 students times 4 = 48,000.

Don't forget the whole south end zone does not get used but they are are counting the 12,000 or so graduates sitting on the field. They are also offering 1 ticket for every graduate from Newark and Camden.

On the FB announcement a lot of people are pissed that they cannot bring their whole family and friends. My response to that is that the second it was announced that the President is coming every graduate should have figured that they seats would be limited compared to previous years. They have the option to take the whole family to their school graduation where they actually read their names and they walk across the stage.

People need to get over themselves. 4 tickets EACH is plenty to a graduation for this size class.

It will be a cluster**** but I'm looking forward to it. I will get there very early. If 10,000 seats are not used behind the stage, that would leave around 42,000 seats of which 36,000 will be used for guests. That leaves 6,000 seats. Plus, the White House might not want all the seats filled for security purposes. People who are complaining need to relax.

Hasn't it always been limited? I recall 5 for mine on voorhees mall.

this is going to be a hoot dealing with this generation's sense of entitlement for the next 50-60 years.
Voorhees was limited but since they moved it to the stadium it was never limited and never needed to.

Of course we had to give Newark and Camden students tickets. A lot of NB students were complaining on Facebook.

While it's great to have the President speak at your University I don't think people really understand what a shit show it causes. I can hardly wait for the students, SL, and faculty to start the onslaught of complaining.

Just so everyone knows, Newark and Camden students are always invited to the University wide ceremony since we started it and went away from school based graduations, example Rutgers College at Vorhees Mall.

This not any different. In the past they could of course come with as many people as they wanted since it was an open to anyone ceremony. This year they are only being allowed one ticket.

I also think they could march in at previous events, not 100% sure on that one but I do remember them announcing Rutgers Newark. I do not think they are allowed to march in this year.

I hope the stadium is configured so that there could be a photo op of POTUS standing in front of "THE BIRTHPLACE OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL", wall....but I don't expect that at all.

Can we paint it on the sideline wall??

I didn't count the students in the 52K because they don't sit in stadium seats. I think the Camden and Newark students account for the extras, and the empty seats required by the security detail.

Again...there are 10,000 or so graduating students BUT 10,000'ish empty seats (see: south end zone), hence, the math works out properly as only 42,000 stadium seats are available.

Negative. The number of tickets per graduate has been reduced to 3. In addition, some 5,000 students from Camden and Newark are being invited to see the President speak. The remainder of the math will be consumed by VIP guests.

The story is all over today's 6:00 news. To the further (continuing) embarrassment of Rutgers, one of the seniors interviewed by WABC-TV was whining about the fact that his 16 family members had already bought plane tickets and now would not all be able to attend. No mention of the fact that they all wouldn't have been allowed to attend, regardless.

I went to commencement last year and the lower bowl was filled but the upper deck had about 1000 fans on each side. There has always been extra room for who wanted to bring 1 guest or 16. Not this time but it is expected

I think the family and friends who won't have a ticket can watch on a tv monitor outside of the stadium.
Is anyone here getting in? It is a pretty big deal to get into the stadium.

Negative ! Each graduate will get 4 tickets 3 for guests one for themselves . 4 tickets times 12,000 students = 48,000.

IMPORTANT COMMENCEMENT UPDATE: All Rutgers University-New Brunswick and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences graduates who have already registered for the May 15 commencement ceremony will receive one ticket for themselves plus three guest tickets and one parking pass. The tickets will be barcoded and will not be transferrable. Ticket holders will be required to have photo identification, and all guests must have a ticket regardless of age. While the limit to three guests at the stadium is a change from past practice, it ensures that every graduating student from Rutgers University–New Brunswick and from Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences is accommodated. Those graduates who have already registered for their parking pass will be notified when the ticket registration system is open.

Please be aware that Rutgers will be providing viewing sites at other venues—the College Avenue, Livingston, and Busch Student Centers, for example—for additional guests.

Graduates and undergraduates from Rutgers University-Newark and Rutgers University-Camden are being invited to attend the May 15 ceremony. The university is chartering special NJ Transit trains to bring graduates from both locations.

Rutgers University-Newark and Rutgers University-Camden students will continue to graduate with their classmates at those locations.

If you have not already made arrangements for your regalia, please do so immediately. All graduates must wear regalia to be on the field during Commencement.

Further details about the event will be available the week of May 9.

I have four tickets in the Audi Lounge. They didn't think about that when coming out with the new rules. My son needs a "ticket" he is the one getting his Masters but I also need to get the four of us in. I already have my Audi tickets in hand but if you read the post I posted above it seems like they are making a system where you need to register each of your 4 guests ( I have 5) by name.

I am hearing I will be fine since they are reserved seats they just have to figure a way to register us.

I went to my nephews graduation at the Big House when Obama was speaker and pretty sure it was only student plus 4 and they have a much larger stadium

Hell it's going to be a shit show from Newark down to New Brunswick. Whenever he flies in it's a cluster F for everyone in the POTUS route. Maybe he takes Marine 1 this time and lands somewhere close to NB.

I am. I have a kid graduating.

I'll be there. My daughter is graduating. I might have an extra ticket. I wonder how much I could get for it?

...did people honestly believe that when you have the sitting POTUS giving your graduation commencement speech you would get to bring 16 people to the ceremony??? I don't even think I got 16 guest tickets for my HS graduation and there was a pretty liberal guest policy.

Way back when I was part of the FDNY detail for a Marine One landing at South Street heliport landing during Clinton's 2nd term.

Loooong day. But very cool to see up close and personal all that is involved with it.

But that's not why. LOL
