OT: Syracuse University recruiting in New Jersey in 2017

That was a long time ago. He just turned 80 lol. Its interesting how people talk about SU in their great years but SU historically havent been good. Won a national championship in 1959, had a good stretch in the late 80's to late 90"s but thats it. Dont know why SU's mediocrity is such a hot topic. Its what they've always been in football. 3 bowl wins in the last 8 years is about right. There isnt a big enough commitment to football in NYS. Its obvious. Basketball, Lacrosse is a different story. Thats what SU fans really care about to be honest. Not football.
SU will be fine as long as they have the right HC and AD....i was born Nov 51 and followed FB since i was 6 or 7...SU NEEDS to put an even bigger emphasis of FB IMO...born and raised in the North Newark/Belleville area..

My father doesn't care about college football or watch it, but he does know a lot about college lacrosse, and he says Jim Brown was the best he's seen. I never saw Jim Brown play football or lacrosse, but it is hard for me to think he was better than Eamon McEneaney or Gary Gait at lacrosse - the two best I have seen.
Jim Brown was an athletic freak....its hard to imagine a better all around athlete..McEnaney isn't even close..

For most of the 70s, Syracuse U. was one of the worst teams in college football, multiple seasons of just 2 and 3 wins ... so the answer to your question is no. 80s and 90s was a different story.
They did fairly well under Pasqualoni
1991: 10-2
1992: 10-2
1995, 6, 7 were 9 win seasons, and 2001 was another 10 wins season.

G-rob dug the hole starting in 2005, Marrone dug out a little, but Shafer dug the hole deeper.

They were dumb enough to fire Pasqualoni. Their fans got to greedy just like a few of the Rutgers fans calling for Schano firing.

Just like I said. From the late 80's to late 90's. 2001 they were surprising good. Last 10 years represents what theyve always been.

I liked PP but all signs showed he was slipping. It wasnt about firing him. It was about the bad hire

There were a lot of similarities between Pasqualoni and Flood:

both followed charismatic coaches who left for the NFL
both had been career assistants, and never a head coach or coordinator
both were mostly little known assistants promoted from within
neither were particularly articulate or insightful when in the spotlight
neither were embraced by the fanbase
both were fired by a new AD

The Syracuse fanbase never warmed-up to Pasqualoni. People were calling for him to be fired even during the 9 win seasons.

I agree. Atleast PP gave SU a good decade of football

Dumb question--are you in Elmira?

What is the significance of ElmiraExpress? I lived up that way near Corning many years ago.

I signed up for this board or one of the predecessors a long time ago, and my first several selections for screen names were rejected - someone already had them or something else. I am a Syracuse AND Rutgers fan. Elmira Express was the nickname for Ernie Davis - national champion and first black Heisman Trophy winner at Syracuse. I selected the name to honor him. I did this long before they later made a movie about Davis called The Express, so I didn't think anyone would make the connection, but several people have since then.

btw, I did not attend Rutgers or Syracuse. However, members of my immediate family are both Rutgers and Syracuse graduates.

Did not realize he went to school in Elmira. His father was killed right after he was born, and tragically, Ernie did from leukemia at age 23. He is buried in the same cemetery as Mark Twain--but you probably know all this.
