A crowd of up to 150,000 expected at the NASCAR venue. Can't post pics but it looks like a terrible place to watch the game. Even the best seats will be very far from the field. Looks like the equivalent of trying to watch a game at HPSS from the top of the bubble.

Gimmick? Money grab for the schools and track owners with little concern for the fans?

If not there you might be surprised. My daughter goes to school 20miles from Bristol and I do stop by the track. The seating is not angled back dramatically and is nearly verticle. If you did nothing but seat on the infield and track you could get 50000 to 60000 good seats.

The concessions and facilities are designed for absurdly large crowds so thats not a problem

I dont know how many really care about this game but that enormous parking lot will house the damnest tailgate party the world has seen. It figures to start around 5 the day before and continue to post game. Would not be a total shock for 20-30000 not bother to come in at all.
I dont know how to share photos on here but the live counter in Bristol shows 165,000 seats sold and it has not closed out.

Ancillary benefits to the town the H/oliday inn, hampton court rooms at a regular 100 can command 10x that. Restaurants are impossible.
But it looks like a great party and my daughter, and friends, will keep me posted
Frankly I dont care about either team but i would love to be there......event wise

The south is defined by churches football and Nascar all attended by a bunch of white guys and their lovely wives. This is their holy grail of events. Not trying to be demeaning .Having spent time down there just stating a fact.

Struggled to figure out which night game I'll watch - this game, Arkansas - TCU or Illinois - North Carolina. Most likely head over to BTN for the B1G game

Is the field right on the infield asphalt? That would not be fun to be tackled on.

And BBQ. Lots of p-i-g BBQ. Serious stuff down here. Some still do whole hog. Most do shoulders. Some butts. Some do gas grilled. Some wood-fired (for purists), shoveling in more hot coals when needed. Western NC/Eastern TN supports the tangy tomato-based "red" sauce. Eastern NC-style is cider vinegar with salt and red pepper flake sauce (kinda clear). Me? I mix 'em up. But always prefer "pulled" pork vs. chopped (with cracklin' mixed in), allowing you to mix in your own sauce/s. "Chopped" is nearly always prepared with Eastern sauce mixed in. South Cacklacky likes the "yeller" mustard-based sauce, which is "ok" but not my favorite.

Damn. Now who's not thinking 'bout some Q?

I know the schools couldn't fill it at this point, but I would love to see a Maryland/Rutgers game one day at Dover International.

I've been to this track for a NASCAR event - it as the potential for an awesome several day tailgate. The surrounding area is ideal for festivities and camping.

Her friends tend towards " smoking over exotic woods ' with a dry rub and some " shine " Not the rotgut of decades ago but something not so bad

I too have been there for NASCAR ... I can tell you, the numbers (feet distance etc) may make it seem one way, but that track is designed so there's not a bad view in the house. I'm sure they won't sell the bottom of the turn/endzone seats since there's buildings in the way anyway - but the views won't be as bad as you think. Sure they probably won't be able to tell if a receiver's foot was in or out of bounds on those kind of close plays, but they'll have no problem seeing the field and the video board is huge and the atmosphere will be amazing ... that place is deafening.

150,000? Really?

TN's Neyland Stadium capacity = 102,455
VA Tech's Lane Stadium capacity = 66,233

So, yea, it's possible, not to mention drawing some other folks who may be drawn to the novelty of the venue, and the NASCAR appeal.

Attending a NASCAR race at Bristol is on my bucket list. I haven't been there yet because it's in the middle of nowhere...lol.

Thus far I've been to Dover, Pocono, Phoenix and Sonoma.

The tailgate scene for this game starts today or tomorrow with campers coming in from everywhere. They even converted stores that sell NASCAR stuff to football gear for this game. They have concerts and other events planned several days out. They did it right. Someday!

Mike,
I actually stopped there on the way down to the bowl game in Birmingham. Saw a security guard and he let me in and I was able to walk on the track. The banking is so high that you almost lose your balance. Looking up and seeing all those stands is wild--I can't imagine driving around there in NASCAR race.

Can't see anything bad about this. Big-time publicity move, fun, one-of-a-kind game experience for anyone that attends and cool visuals for those watching on TV. It'll probably attract a bunch of casual TV gawkers, too. Bring binoculars if you're worried about views, but for one OOC game out of the year, seems like a win.

Many of our fans would cry hard about it, though.

They're going to break the football attendance record, and that's all that matters. You don't worry about your seat for this one.

I'm interested to see if the acoustics bouncing off the banked track will approach or break any decibel records or if the audience sounds will dissipate.

This must have cost millions to build a football field and to break it down.

The end zone seats look like they will be in the next county from the playing field.

Like watching a game of cornhole at midfield from the stands in HPSS.

Just cause the fans can't see it doesn't mean it won't happen.

Agree that the tailgating will be epic.

Depending on the configuration, Indianapolis Motor Speedway can hold up to 400,000. What the heck, schedule a Kentucky vs. Indiana basketball game there.

Kinda cool. Once. Not like Yankee Stadium 3x and counting....Ugh!

And please don't let the guy post who insists on calling Va Tech , "VPI." It's really pretentious and obnoxious. We do not go around saying, "Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey" on the football board.
