It's hard to come to terms with the S-L's high school football Top-20 including 0-3 Don Bosco and 0-2 DePaul. How did it come to this where the results of games don't matter? Maybe the category "Also Receiving Votes" is changed to "Will be Included When They Win".

Either NJ football is even in worse shape than I thought it was or the S-L is just pandering. Probably, the latter.

I can't believe Bosco is 0-3.

For Bosco, it's because they lost to top teams in other states. Bosco has played American Heritage (Plantation, FL), St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia, PA),and Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, OH). Depaul has played Paramus Catholic #5 (27-20) and Bergen Catholic #3 (21-7). So those two loses are top teams. Perhaps you should do a little research and get some perspective first.

The perspective is Bosco use to beat those teams on a fairly regular basis.BC which MaxPreps ranks as #1 in NJ is ranked only #45 in the country. , Paramus Catholic is ranked #278 nationally. Bosco is ranked #118.That's perspective.

Are they better than the first team NOT in the Top 20? Probably. And if so, case closed.

Although I am a true anti-parochial person, I hate the notion that a team should drop when it loses if the team it lost to is ranked higher. For example, why should Mississippi fall from No. 19 when it lost to No. 1? Makes no sense to automatically do that. Even No. 2, in theory, doesn't have to drop if it loses to No. 1, because No. 1 is supposed to be better.

Good to see the writer(s) don't do the rankings blindly. Whether they are proved right or wrong, we'll see.

Actually, the Star-Ledger twists itself in knots trying to placate the public schools, which is why they rank a good program like Middletown North ahead of, say, DePaul, though the Spartans would likely throttle them.

DePaul started last season 0-4 and wound up winning a state championship. All losses are not equal. It definitely makes for some odd-looking rankings, but those teams are still among the state's best. It's symptomatic of the larger problems the state has with regard to football.

Because those two teams would beat every public in the state. Which we would see if they weren't afraid to play them.

Db plays out of state powers to challenge itself, they would destroy most of nj teams

I don't think it's fear...just common sense. Those big parochial school recruit. How is a public school that's pretty much restricted to kids from its district supposed to compete yearly with schools that have their coaches picking up kids from halfway across the state every morning ?
It's not a level playing field. Either let the publics recruit or stop the parochials from recruiting or keep them in different leagues. Otherwise it's just not fair.

Not entirely true. Wayne Hills has kids from four different towns on their team. Not one of their top players is actually from Wayne. Timber Creek was just investigated.....

I wonder if the Sorrycuse faithful are beginning to worry their 4 star Bosco QB of the future didn't deserve the stars they lobbied for?

Perhaps the S-L needs two Top-20 lists. Athletic magnet schools and non-athletic magnet schools.

Are the four Wayne Hills players out-of-town tuition paying students, or children of Wayne Hills staff who are entitled to attend without paying tuition?
