Belushi
Murphy
Carvey
Radnor
Hammond (Sean Connery gig)

If Hillary gets elected Kate McKinnon may get enough material to challenge.

Bill Murray
John Belushi
Eddie Murphy
Dana Carvey
Dan Akroyd
Phil Hartman
Daryl Hammond
Joe Piscopo

These were the guys I looked forward to seeing.

About half would be right. Garret Morris and Lorraine Newman were not memorable.

Jane Curtain had a couple of gigs - Point/Counter Point with Akroyd, Weekend Update, Coneheads - that were good, but I wouldn't put her top 10. Gilda was good, and probably Top 10.

Mike Myers is in my all-time top 3 (with Hartman and Carvey).......lots of classic sketches, consistent writer and performer. Since he grew up Canadian with British parents, he had a very unique take on ethnic humor.

Billy Crystal

Bill Hader was funny, but knocking on the Top 10 door.

Will Ferrell had a good career after leaving SNL, but not Top 10 IMHO. Thought he was too juvenile (still is).

I'd say Will Ferrell is easily top 5. I don't think the original cast has ever made me even crack a smile.

They are great performers, but they were only there for less than a year.....they were proven high-cost talents brought in to save the show and they did. (They were compared to the Yankees) Check out short's autobiography "I Must Say" - really a great guy with some interesting stories (he knew Gilda and the other early Canadian cast members prior to their fame). The audiobook version of short's book is one of the most entertaining audiobooks you'll ever hear.

No love for Keenan?

No order

Dana, Farley, Keenan, Seth Myers(strictly on his work as news anchor), Sandler.

Obviously I started watching late 80's.

I know I've left the girl's off the list. I feel bad about it, but it is what it is.

This is always a funny debate to see unfold because inevitably you can tell how old someone is by who they like and who they dismiss.

I will try to break the trend and say -

Dan Aykroyd
Chevy Chase
Chris Farley
Will Ferrell
Bill Hader

Also really like Hammond, Hartman, Murphy, Belishi, Carvey, Wiig, Sandler, Samberg and Fey.

I started with the originals and watched through today. There were some terrible shows in the 80s and 90s, but since 2001, there have been some amazing shows. I listed below my favorites, players that I would be most excited to see appear in a new sketch. There were some great writers that also acted but I didn't include them. I did, however, include, my bottom five. Just some terrible players. There are others I love but not necessarily in this setting (Bill Murray one of my favorites and some others have amazing stand-up like Eddie Murphy). I had some time on my hands, lol.

Eddie Murphy should be on any top 5 list. SNL would have been canceled if it weren't for him. A little Will Ferrell goes a long way, but the More Cowbell sketch was hilarious.

Totally true and he would be #1 on most important cast member, but doesn't have to be on favorite. I grew up on his movies and his stand-up is my favorite, but I'd prefer to watch others do sketches.

Belushi
Murray
Murphy
Myers
Carvey

I think Will Ferrell has become much funnier since starting movies than he ever was on SNL. He had some of the most cringe-worthy sketches I can remember. For some reason I only remember Sandler for Weekend Update moments. Of recent cast members, I like Kenan the best.

Wasn't Steve Martin a cast member or only a frequent guest? King Tut, the barber who did blood letting, his new years' resolutions, balloon animals, two wild and crazy guys, etc. How could he be left out?

John Belushi
John Belushi
John Belushi
Eddie Murphy
Dana Carvey

I find Will Ferrell to be absolutely unwatchable. But I did used to like Dennis Miller on update.

I believe Steve Martin hosted SNL quite a few times, but was never a cast member.

There is an episode which wasn't shown after June 1994: A 1977 one showing OJ stabbing a Walter Payton doll.It was re-run in 1979 when I taped it.

I know I'm in the minority but with the exception of the Lawrence Welk singer, I never found Kristen Wiig's characters funny at all. I always thought Amy Poehler and Cheri Oteri were much funnier.

I'm only going on guys that I watched live. I've seen Murphy's best of, and it's hilarious(and his delirious stand up was the funniest thing ever for me as a 10ish your old) but it's not the same as watching first runs.

I thought she was funny, but over rated, some act as if she was a genre changing artist of a comedian. I agree on liking Poehler more, and I've found some of Mackinnon's skits(Beiber and Russian lady are hilarious) to be funnier then anything Wiig did.

That said Wiig was pretty funny.

Agree on Mackinnon. Her, Kenan and Cecily Strong are the only reason to watch the show now.

I still watch pretty often. And I think the cast is pretty good overall. Kenan is gold, the update is pretty good, and it seems they get so many unbilled guests nowadays. Larry David as Bernie was hilarious.

Belushi. The show would have been canceled without him. It has never been the same

Belushi was never funny. In fact, none of the old shows really hold up. Maybe they were edgy at the time but now they are a snooze fest

5) Kristen Wiig
4.) Jimmy Fallon
3.) Dana Carvey
2.) Eddie Murphy
1.) Will Ferrell

Bass-o-matic

Funny.....I just got a Bass-O-Matic for Christmas this year along with a Bag-O-Glass, Happy Fun Ball, Shimmer Floor Wax (and dessert topping), Colon Blow, Steve Martin's Penis Beauty Cream and a #!%*-in-a-box.
