OTB open Letter to Hobbs on Basketball Mess

Pretty sure 90% of fans would sign the bottom of this letter, hang it up at the RAC, have fans sign it as they leave the game early. Maybe Hobbs will catch a glance of it during a work day

Great letter that I support.

Only one item do I take issue with. The games were fun and there was some buzz at the RAC under Fred Hill ?

Every person in the world knows what has to happen, we need to finish raising the money necessary to build the practice facility and then build it. Any other investment at this time is a waste of cash. If we are putting shovels in the ground in 6 months, then move on from Eddie. If not, suck it up with Eddie.

Stop wasting energy complaining and start donating. I really don't give a shit what Dave White thinks he is entitled to. Maybe if he should try using his pen to support Hobbs and stop whining.

Are you a season ticket holder? Do you know the team has lost 26 consecutive conference games? Do you know we lost by 50 this year? And by 30 points multiple times? Under Jordan, we're 0-3 vs SHU, 0-3 vs GW, 0-2 vs CAA, 4-2 vs MAAC.

This is a program that has sapped enthusiasm from biggest supporters. I believe Eddie thinks he is a smartest man in the room and will not attempt to develop relationships in the area. He knows all.

He skipped a CC meeting to scout Monmouth! He's invisible on the recruiting trail. He fails to realize it takes more than one nice offensive play per half to win games.

Well his record painfully shows he does not know what he's doing. He makes more than Lonergan and St Bonnie's coach combined. Both guys might make the tournament and neither has sparkling facilities to sell recruits.

Jordan might look better with five Corey's out there but when has that been the case at Rutgers

The proof is In the pudding and if you think this is acceptable them lets join the Patriot League or Sun Belt.

I stepped foot on campus in September 1981. Viewed over that period the program is a dumpster fire. Yes there were 2 short trips to the NCAA's and 1 decent trip to the loser tournament but the program's problems are legendary.

We need to focus on major change - meaning a practice facility. Until that happens letters complaining do nothing. Support not bitch at Hobbs. This shitty season is just another to add onto a long string before.

Who said anyone's bitching at Hobbs? You need to relax and read again.

Season ticket holder is supporting the program. Stop being inflammatory.

Facilities aren't the reason we suck so bad. Lots of teams out there that have coaches who overcome crap facilities to win.

As we all know though, good facilities will make it easier to build the program.

The point is the lack of enthusiasm is not just on Eddie. It's on decades of ineptitude. The author became a season ticket holder under Waters and says games were fun under Hill when his teams lost by 20, twenty times in 4 years. Yet blames Eddie the place is a morgue because of his 19, twenty point losses in 3years.

Again this program needs radicle change. The problem with Dave's thesis is he thinks that under Waters the program was acceptable. Getting the program back to that level is a loser mentality.

Seriously? Fred Hill Jr killed Rutgers basketball?

No he didn't single handedly kill RU BB. It has been in decline over a long period of time.

My point is that the last time there was buzz at the RAC was during the Waters years. Under Freddie the buzz was gone IMO. Not that Waters was a long term solution but he actually beat some good teams at the RAC.

I disagree. Going to the NIT finals is not a losers mentality when you're staring at 34 consecutive big ten losses in the face.

You act as if this job will be more attractive in a year or two. It's the same job until someone wins. Eddie's not winning.

Facilities help but Mike Rice was close to .500 without them so we are about 7-8 games below Rice years.

You can attract a good candidate with the promise of facilities in a few years and a nice pay raise. That's true in 2016 and 2017. Why wait a year?!

You think Archie Miller level coaches are coming here because we have facilities? VCU replaced Shaka Smart with a good coach from Chatanooga and that's with a $25 million facility opening the same year

I think we're agreeing with each other. Rutgers basketball was in poor health for a long time, but it still had a pulse under Waters. That pulse stopped under Hill.

Again, your dislike of Eddie has you focused on coaches. Need to get recruits. I wish Dave White was writing about how we will shortly have a new facility and what a boost to the program that will be rather than how horrible the program is under Eddie. I know he views himself as a fan and blogger but I'm just pointing out the position a real fan might take if writing a blog. The worm turned the day the $25 mill was signed over. Dave missed it though.

Wow you're difficult. You love Jordan, the player. You're too blind to see it.

You're argument is Ruthers has been bad so what's another two or three losing seasons because yay $25 million tax credit.

Don't you think the time to move is now with public support from the stTe?

I never saw Eddie play one second of one game.

The tradectory of this program is down. Every coach has done equal or worse than his predecessor since Young. Maybe I'm not as bright as you and Dave but I need a little more convincing on why another guy will turn this thing around.

I'm bored with small thinking that wants to do the same over and over again. When shovels are ready then it will be time for a new coach.

How is that "big" thinking?

Jordan has a contract thAt runs out in two years. Hobbs has to make a choice after next at the latest, and facilities won't be built by then.

Then what? Can't let Eddie coach year 5 without extension which costs money the school doesn't have.

With your recent tirades you are rivaling the other crusader for the top spot. Keep it up, I'm impressed and entertained.

I can't see your message. You're on my ignore list.

Hahaha

Maybe you can just explain why you keep saying the same thing over and over ? It's stuff like this that makes a board unreadable. We get it. You want change. We don't have to see you type the same thing day after day....do we?

There are ZERO decision makers on this board. Hobbs is NOT taking his cue from your messages. Trust me.

That would mean he doesn't care what you think either

Everyone know that Jordan isn't the right guy. Fire him and start the digging. That's what you did. Hobbs was hired to fix basketball and to find a guy to lead the RU bball programs resurgence.

Dave White is totally right. I have disagreed with him at times but his passion for RU hoops is undeniable and he hits the mark here...and this was a guy who supported Jordan up until not long ago. At some point people have all realized Jordans time has come. He did enough to heal the program but he wont make it a winner and you need a guy to sell the vision for fundraising. Why would people want to donate to a building project when a team goes 6-41 in their last 47 games and keeps their coach...they wont want to

he already wrote about that. The program is HORRIBLE UNDER EDDIE...that's fact...apparently you have missed the last 3 years.

You are complaining because Jordan missed a court club meeting to scout a team he was playing against.??? You sound like a scorned girl whose date didn't show.
If 3 of our bigs didn't get hurt early in the season, the outcomes are better than you think. I'm willing to give him 1 more year.

And yes I am a season ticket holder who donates more than 5k each year and goes to every game. I want to see Jordan and RU succeed.

My point is simple. If Hobbs has the cash to green light the project by the end of the season then move on from Eddie. If he doesn't, then keep him because the guy we hire with the possibility of new facilities in the future might be no better than Eddie.

We are all frustrated because we don't know how close Hobbs and team are to the fundraising finish line. But if he is a year or more away from raising the monies he needs then I think we will have to settle for someone that is less than the program needs for a turn around.

Thanks for classy post.

Didn't we lose by 30 points multiple times with Doorson on the floor last year? Didn't we have Jack, Lewis, Étou, Doorson and Foreman in 2014-15 when Seton Hall took an early 40-19 lead against us? And didn't we lose against Every good opponent with Freeman and Diallo on the court together?

It's not injuries when every year under Jordan we play bad defense, lose to inferior programs, and get blown out 10 times or more.

So what are you going to do about it? Pony up some money and get the facilities and 2mm coach. Idiot. I'm done reading this nonsense. I doubt you even give any money to this program.

You just said the outcomes would be different with three bigs and I gave you some evidence of Jordan's resume at Rutgers and this is your response?

I'm sorry but I'm not a 1% and those are the people who make coaching changes. Rutgers doesn't cultivate donors who are filthy rich, I forgot

I do not know that Eddie is the right guy or not, but judging him on this year's roster is stupid as I told you when I first replied to your Fire Eddie stuff..
However , Eddie is suffering from the 10 years of losing seasons and almost 20 years of being irrelevant in the Big East, the 22 year NCAA drought and the administration cheap hire and lack of support. You will not get any coach you have heard of to come here now. None!!! You have to take a chance on a low level coach that without a practice facility or with the negative recruiting will never get us to compete in the Big 10 . What great recruits do you think this unknown is going to recruit ? Guaranteed not players like Corey Sanders!!!! Our 3-5 year , fire, rinse and do it again has not worked.

Mark Schmidt is on the cusp of another NCAA tournament at St. Bonaventure.

They don't even recruit elite talents as far as A10 goes.

Do they have awesome facilities?

Chris Collins at NW? Buzz at VT?

What did Larranaga and Shaka Smart do at George Mason and VCU when they coached in the CAA?

Waters, Bannon and Rice had competitive teams with the same facilities. So now 6 and 10 win seasons are OK?
