Pac-12’s Larry Scott says expansion may happen again, but unsure how soon

BYU won't get it from the PAC as they are staunchly secular... if they wanted BYU, they would have added them decades ago. Baylor and TCU are also unlikely options because of this.

I think Texas ends up in our conference. Delany obviously wants to eventually expand based on the way he agreed to the tv contracts, and Texas would likely prefer to be associated with more eastern-based flagships and potentially restart their sports rivalry with Nebraska. Not to mention they follow the money.

It really could potentially end up with the UT (along with OU) going to the B1G, TT & UH going to the PAC.

Good luck getting enough votes from B1G members for Texas.

Interesting commment. On the surface, I can only see Nebraska being a "no" for obvious reasons, but they stand to gain the most from a Texas admission.

Again, those are surface level observations. I have no idea what politics or grudges might be in play.

I don't even think it would be a "grudge" thing. It's a "Texas" thing and I'd guess most out there don't want to be bothered.

If, and this is a big if, Texas was willing to come in as equals then I could see other University Presidents being thrilled to have them. That school is a power house in more than just athletics.

A number of Northwestern fans have been to our board and vice versa. They have a small but passionate fan base and they seem like a great group who are interested in discussing game specifics.
Side note the NU fans we talked to are not Penn State supporters:).
Who the hell would support those Penn State Aholes except for Penn Staters??

From where I'm sitting (Las Vegas), the longer this takes to shake out the better it is. UNLV lags behind much of the Power 5 when it comes to academics, although the current and previous president are working on it. The key is the Raiders. If that move gets approved, and the stadium gets built, UNLV also will play in it. Las Vegas already is home to conference tournaments for four Western leagues and is a booming sports hotbed (Bryce Harper and Kris Bryant only the top examples of what truly is a growing athletic factory.) If this does not happen soon -- and I suspect it won't -- UNLV's stock could rise, and it will either get a Pac-12 slot (IF the academics improve) or join the leftover Big 12 schools in the P5/G5 hyrbid leftover conference hoping for a seat at the table.

Oh, and don't lump TCU in with BYU and Baylor on religious grounds. Sure, Christian is its middle name, but the Disciples of Christ are more comforting than oppressive, the religious influence is gentle and the Frogs don't mind playing Sundays. Not even close to a BYU situation, and not as scary on the God front as Baylor used to be (i.e. no dancing).

I would imagine that UNLV is light years away from being palatable to the academic elites of the Pac12.

So many people on this board don't understand the Pac12. For example, the idea that the Pac12 would even consider a school like Texas Tech is ridiculous.
You're probably right about :" the idea that the Pac12 would even consider a school like Texas Tech is ridiculous." but sometimes what's ridiculous does happen.
