Parking on the Golf Course

Will never happen; should never happen. Rutgers has plenty of close parking available. I wonder how nice Michigan's course is?

Totally agree. As a golfer I am completely disgusted by the thought of anyone doing that. Plus I believe the women's season is in the fall so it doesn't make sense. Plus it would be a loss of revenue on a game day. Just the clean up and potential damage would not make it worth it. Also, if you ever played the Rutgers course, I'm not really sure there would be good access in/out points.

I say close the golf course altogether and make it football parking. There's lots of golf courses around for people who want to do that. There is a real shortage of tailgating locations close to the stadium.

No shortage of parking. Just a shortage on donations.

Parking at the Michigan golf course is the same distance as parking on College Ave. There is plenty of parking on College Ave & a free shuttle (which Michigan does not provide).

Maybe instead of tearing up the golf course, Rutgers fans should stop whining about not being able to park right up next to the stadium.

No, no and did I mention no? I would consider the driving range. But no walking through the course. And I doubt it would be neccessary. Did Rac parking ever sell out?

Can you imagine how screwed up the course would get on a rain day. Let's leave the golf course alone.

No way, this is one of my favorite courses.

They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Michigan allows parking on the golf course? I thought they only allowed football parking in the golf course parking lots and the driving range. Are you sure they allow parking on the fairways, roughs, and greens?

Went to a UCLA -Arizona game at the Rose bowl last year and they allow parking on the golf course...and plenty of it. I don't think Rutgers is at the point where they should allow it but if they expand the stadium and people start to really pony up for donations it should be up for discussion.

Iowa also allows football parking on nearby golf course, and it's the same course that the university teams compete on and is considered one of the best public courses in the area. It's probably the largest public parking area for football games here. However, if wet weather occurs in the days leading up to the game, or is in the forecast, then parking is not allowed there.

This indicates that season parking passes cannot be sold on the golf course. It would need to be a game day cash lot, allowing RU to shut it down on bad weather days.

I can't think of anything worse for a golf course than tire damage. Usually caused by idiot cart users on wet days. I can't even imagine what car use on just a damp day would look like.

Even Pebble Beach allows cars to park on the course...

True, but............

1. Its once a year
2. Its only on the 18th hole, not the whole course.
3. The cars are carefully placed by professionals, not Drunken fans having fun doing donuts.

So, they park cars on golf courses in Ann Arbor, Iowa City, and Pasadena. And once a year at Pebble Beach for the Concours D`elegance.
It's clear that not parking cars on the golf course is small-time. We wanted to be big time, let's get with the program!

I am heading out there next week, having no idea the show is going on when I booked (couldn't alter the dates though). I called a couple of courses to play and was stunned to hear that they actually use the courses for the cars. I could be wrong, but I think they use more than just the 18th. Isn't this # 8? Regardless, I was being a little sarcastic.

Which, incidentally, begins next week.

Last year I took the family to San Francisco and we took a ride to Pebble Beach on the day that event started.

Those are some really nice cars on that golf course!

Indeed. Biggest event of the year in the collector car circuit. If you really wanna be amazed, check out what some of the cars go for at the auction (typically sponsored by Gooding & Co.).

I think Pebble beach tightly controls the event and the placement of the cars, and takes all precautions to prevent damage. People parking themselves on a golf course in wet weather could be a real issue. Even if its not wet, there will always be the few drunks who want to have fun doing donuts.

This is what I am afraid of:

Since we are travelling to the Big House this year, I know that they allow parking on the golf course across the street from the stadium.

Has there ever been any discussion of using the golf course for parking? I know its not good for the course, but if Michigan can do it, why can't Rutgers?

Football drives the bus. Close the course. You can't get donations from ticket holders parking at the RAC. Just plant more grass in the spring, I don't see the big deal!

It is a great course. There is also a second great course further from campus that is faculty and administration only. I have played them both. There are other nice courses around Ann Arbor with much easier access compared to New Jersey.

Parking is pretty limited around the stadium, other than the golf course. People pay to park at private homes and business lots. My friend up there would usually park in an industrial area then cut across a bowling alley parking lot. One year going thru the lot before a noon game, there was a band on the back of a flatbed that I thought was a Cheap Trick tribute band. Turned out actually to be Cheap Trick. Too bad we did not get there a little earlier.

F you fall golfers! Plant more grass in the 6 Inch tire marks and play winter rules till July.

If this becomes an issue they should just build a commuter lot deck in Johnson park.. maybe even a 2nd very close to the train station (on the highland park side) with footbridge access to the station.. and shuttle bus to the stadium n game days... same with Edison Station. There is plenty of room for accommodating growth... just mot a lot more room for tailgate lots near the stadium.

Parking is not an issue. Donation is. No need for it until the RAC is sold out every game. If you want to park closer, donate more money.

Golf schmolf. Replace the golf course with a parking deck and put the sand over by the day-care center.
