do we go after him? 6'5" transfer from quinnipiac. Sit one play 3 avg 13 as a frosh. Saw SHU offered so far and interest from cal, auburn and Fordham

I prefer the guard from Washington or the grad transfer from Pitt who is a 6'7" guard. Quinnipiac is losing 3 kids but I cannot see going this coming year with a guy sitting out unless the guy has outstanding numbers. The kid at Bryant I would rather consider if a guy was taken and had to sit out. Kiss had a very good game vs. SHU but one game does not make a season. He only shot 27% on threes. I would pass. Let him go to SHU.

Does he still have any eligibility left?

Live down the street from Quinnipiac so go to some games and watch others. Not sure how much he'd be able to contribute to a big ten team looking to move up the ladder during that time frame. Perhaps he'd have some value as he does have good build for 2-guard. Main thing is controlling emotions. Felt like the game late in the season vs Fairfield he played out of control at end and it cost them the game and I had seen articles on him trying to control his emotions early in the year.

Mikey Dixon is the guy to offer. From Delaware - very smooth player getting to the basket.

Peter Kiss was a solid complimentary player in HS. I think he's a minor role player at best in the B1G or Big East

Kiss is visiting UMASS and SHU this weekend. Mikey Dixon is visiting SJU this weekend.

Peter Kiss - 18 points and 5 Rebounds vs. Gonzaga. Only 27% from 3 point range in his 1 year.

would be a nice complimentary guy for when doucoure gets here. Kiss, Geo, Doucoure + whatever recruits we snag up.

I think freshman year in the big ten this translates to 9, 2, and 1.

Still see it as a risk. I have never seen more transfers I feel.

With the transferring situations, it really seems like if the player does not get exactly what they want, they leave.

The flip side is if the coach does not get what they want out of the player, they are probably happy to have that conversation Coach Pikiell had two months ago.

For me, this player would have to have some more intangibles. He would have to be a plus defender, calls out ball screens, fights over them, and would have to be a great passer. I am not letting this player take a scholarship for a year on big recalculated 9, 2, and 1 stats. It's 3 for 1 versus 3 for 2, but still.

Rutgers may have the inside track with Kiss. Pikiell had a previous relationship with him from recruiting.

I want a kid from Eastern Europe who is about 6'8" and can put the ball in the hoop in the RAC from his hometown.

On that we all agree. Would also like it if he can take it to the hoop and finish.

I'm concerned about the idea of taking a MAAC shooting guard and putting him up against the quickness and speed of B1G guards. But I suspect that Pike has figured that one out.

Our talent level has a long way to go to get to where we can be competitive in conference. This signing probably does not help close the player talent gap for us. But he may be the best available fit for what we need, a guard who can shoot. Coach Pike will get the best available player that he can sign. But how good will they be in the B1G ?

For the record, Kiss shot under 28% from three last year: http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4070686/peter-kiss

Stats arent the only indicator...does the player fit in the program and add a dimension not at his position.

I trust Pikiell. He will decide if Peter can help us. I have read more on him and although he didn't shoot that great from 3 point land he was 0-17 in his last 3 regular season games. Perhaps as a freshman he did hit the wall at the end of his season. You take the 0-17 away and he was 36-113 or 32% on threes. He also averaged 5.6 rebounds a game. If he could get a little stronger in a sit out year he just might really help us. Apparently he might have wound up at Stony Brook instead of Quinnipiac as Pikiell was recruiting him. Thus they already know each other which could make a difference. I hate the thought of sitting out but hopefully Pikiell can still get at least one more guy to help us for this coming season.

I dont understand the thinking that we need to be a great 3 point team to be a winning team. Kiss can create points. That's a lot more that can be said of many on our roster.

Another thing about Peter is that he is 6'5" tall. Perhaps he can also play small forward. He did have two games where he was 4-4 on threes and one of them was against Seton Hall. He averaged 5.6 rebounds and got more as the season went on. At the beginning of the season his minutes were limited and he wasn't getting too many rebounds. He had several games with at least 9 and his highest was 13 in one game. The more I read about him the more I am interested.

Bottom line is the kid is only a freshman who can put the ball in the basket and rebound as a guard. Under 30% from three is obviously not sexy, but players improve. I assume he'll have to sit a season. That should be a benefit for a guy like him. I'll take him in a heart beat.

This kid would easily be one of the top 3 scorers on our team. Why aren't we excited again?

You must not watch a lot of college basketball. The game is now pretty much about making the three point shot. Big men step out and shoot it etc. Almost every team that makes the NCAA tournament have guys that can knock down threes all over the place. But hey lets continue to try and buck the trend. It's working out great for us.

Having said that I am not saying we don't want Kiss. Just saying we need to GREATLY improve our shooting from 3 and at the line to have any chance for success.

We don't need every player to be a 3 point shooter. I get that we need to address it at some point but we can still build a successful team taking players like Kiss.

Watching his video against SHU he had 4-4 on threes and two of them were way beyond the arc. I think he would shoot alright as long as he is in better physical strength to be better prepared for a long season. I do think he did tire near the end of last season.
