Phew! Dodged a Bullet!

The $4 mil puts him toward the bottom only because guys like Fleck, Brohm, etc cane in lower but got raises based on performance.
The offer was very fair. I don’t put this on RU. What I do put on RU is assuming Gary would agree and pretty much tied their wagon to him and only him.

I loved what Schiano did for us here. But that time is over and things changed. He’s an out of work coach with, right or wrong, a huge black mark on his resume. In reality, he needed Rutgers more than we need him. No one else will hire him. We will hire another coach. If we are going to give up the farm, give it to someone relevant.
I think we will have to agree to disagree on this. I have been a Rutgers fan since 1976 and can only remember being this upset with the school when I found out we turned down the Big East.

That’s cool. I’ve been a fan since 1990. If we didn’t get Schiano and his now baggage, I won’t be upset.

I’m sure you are in the inner circle and know.

bottom line is Schiano turned down 6 years, more than you typically see for a contract. He overplayed his hand bigly and got rejected. It happens. Next.
I never claim to be an insider nor to I post 'insider' fake news. The results of the Ash hire and the next hire will speak for themselves in revenue, respect and wins. But feel free to bury your head in the sand and think all is well.

You said we dodged a bullet. 10 of our biggest donors do not agree with your assessment.
Good for them. Money talks. That’s the funny thing about people with money. Sometimes they just like buying things. Especially when told they can’t have it.

If they are paying his ridiculous demands, great. Huge win for RU. If we need to pull the trigger upon going nowhere in year 4, let them pay. I have no problem with that.

I’ll take the smarter route and see who we actually hire.

His demands were not ridiculous.

The demand that he be given 100% autonomy over the football program is, in fact, ridiculous.
Where did you get that from? I read the Greg's demand article and that is not quite what it said. Did you get that from somewhere else?

What is says here is exactly what is done at OSU, AL, UM, etc

Under the proposal, while Schiano would have reported directly to Hobbs, he would have the authority to “employ, manage, discipline and terminate all assistant coaches.” In addition, the deal points called for him to have “discretionary authority over football-specific matters, including football program facilities and operations.”

It's that last sentence.

In this scenario, who sets the metrics for success? Who is responsible for disciplinary oversight with regard to players and staff? Who is the accountable authority?

It can't be the football coach. Someone else has to be in charge.

Apparently we have some RU fans that want to be run like Penn St under JoePuh

And the first thing they'll say is "That would NEVER HAPPEN with Greg!!"

To which I say, "You can't know what can happen and what can happen."

It's not just the Sandusky thing. Yeah, that would probably never happen.

But ya know what definitely CAN happen?

Everything else that Vicky Traponey wrote about after she left PSU.

If we get a December surprise and a big name is hired I will be the first to admit it. Unfortunately that is highly unlikely and the mishandling of the Schiano negotiations has made an already tough job virtually impossible for anyone other than a big name hire. Hobbs is accountable for that also.

Well said Mr. Cali, well said..

If you are giving 8 years and $4MM to a coach plus everything else, I need to see someone that is a winner. Someone who has won a real championship at any level.

Schiano was a great coach for the time he was here. That was a different era. Bring me a current winner or someone who is actually employed.

If we are giving away the whole farm, show me a winner.

To be fair, how did the oversight workout for us? More Players keep getting in the news and kicked off the team now vs GS years.

Your exact quote was: "G.S. thought 8 years, 32 million wasn’t enough?? Well, good luck finding that deal somewhere else."

GS's counter offer was 8/32 so apparently he thought that was good enough since that is what he asked for when they didn't give him fieldhouse...which means your statement above is INCORRECT.

How is that for EXACTLY.
After the Tennessee hiring fiasco, what Power 5 school would even come close to RU’s offer? Greg and his agent overplayed their hand.

I think the opposite. If RU is willing to commit to 6 years at $4MM per plus facility improvements, that’s enticing to some relevant coach.

Herm Edwards makes $2.5MM and has a boss as an example.

Yes, but have not yielded the results. Programs continued to be dragged in the mud and zero accountability on coaches.

Because the coaches sucked and recruited poorly. Imagine if GS does that and we have no one holding him accountable. That’s insane for him to even try and negotiate it. Saban has a boss. The AD.

Agree with you but he does have a good track record.

Bad example — his “boss” is his former agent and good friend. That’s how Herm ended up there (and why he’s never leaving).

If you really need a list, you haven’t been paying attention. My response was rhetorical.

I disagree.

Flood had some guys arrested. Schiano had some guys arrested. I don't recall who, if anyone, was arrested under Ash.

Schiano's teams were not squeaky clean. To suggest they were is just silly. Anthony Davis and Kenny Britt routinely failed drug tests. "Ray Rice don't do exams!" The Davon Clark incident was widely publicized. The transfer pipeline to URI (for example) in an attempt to game the original APR formula was a pretty well-known thing.

Did he run a reasonably tight ship for a high-profile football program? Sure. But was is so clean as to warrant absolute autonomy over a B1G progam? F*ck. No.

Cali, you took the words out of my mouth man. I just don't get how everyone is saying they cant believe we didnt get schiano back, or we are missing out on Greg Part 2. Do you guys not remember always losing to WVU? or head scratching road losses at UCONN? Listen, Gregory, thank you for everything you did. No question you made the program respectable and for that we thank you. but he is NOT the person to take this program forward. And if you have 32 million for him, then go get a PROVEN head coach. Butch Jones, who won a mac title at central michigan, won at cincy, took tennessee to three straight bowl wins (and had top 10 recruiting classes), is coaching at BAMA and WANTED the job, is a better candidate. How bout butch davis at FIU? Kiffin at FAU? If you have 32 mil sitting around for a mediocre coach who quit the pats within a month, was a terrible DC at OSU, failed at the Bucs, then go get me a proven coach Patrick. Don't give me this joe moorehead, campanile brothers combo, or whatever hot MAC coach nonsense. GO GET A PROVEN GUY. There is no excuse. and the jersey high school coaches, kick rocks. because we can recruit florida, VA, PA and fill out this roster and build a winner, just like greg did in the early days until the jersey coaches came around. So stop with the "it has to be a guy who knows jersey". im shocked so many people are on this greg part 2 train.

try googling Rutgers football players arrested. Flood and Ash play by the same rules but somehow they manage to fvck it up. Find me one news article about Kenny Britt and AD failed drug test at RU.

Name calling and avoiding that I pointed out you were wrong in your numbers. Standard operating procedure for you I'm sure. Enjoy the ignore list.
Your post is there for all to see you never corrected anything because my numbers were right. You mentioned 500 posts about Hobbs that had nothing to do with my post. Then you said you never even replied to me.

That's correct. Nobody will, but if he takes something a lot less what does that tell you? These numbnuts can't accept the fact that HE DOESN'T WANT TO COME HERE!!! He is playing us for fools. Good for Hobbs to take a stand.

These guys longing for him to come back is like the nerd who lost his virginity and ten years later wants to get it on with the same woman. Giving a fat ugly MILF a Benz just hoping to relive that one momentous "glorious moment." So unbelievably pathetic if you really think about it.

Does anyone understand his analogy about the nerd losing his virginity ?

you can tell we live in a state run by dems because they always think the answer to everything is more money. 7mm for assistants is big time

we will be better off without him and that package can go to Butch and he'll get some outstanding assistants and let them do their job
That package is gone. The school wasn't paying that dumbass, the boosters were. They're not going to pony up for Bitch Jones, they don't want him. The next coach will be in the $2mil range and assistants in the $4mil. range same as Ash. Hobbs has to come up with the money on his own now. He'll get sh*t for that going rate, you guys just don't understand how this works do you. There is no more 6yr. $24 mil. offer, that went bye, bye for the next guy.

You don't get how this works do you. There is no 6yr./ $24 mil. or $7 mil. for assitants offer for the next guy. The boosters were all in on Schiano. They took their money and left. Now the school has to ante up. It'll be a $2 mil deal with $4 mil. for assistants just like Ash got. For that price range we'll get garbage once again. Don't worry Cali your little lacrosse practice field and training room is still being built, so 300 people can watch them not make the NCAA's once again.

Lol, some laxers must have hit your girl in school. You’re very emotional.

Cali I've been around long enough to know exactly why you didn't want Schiano. You were afraid he would come in and steal money from Lacrosse. Guess what, this isn't the Big East any longer and we're not making $7 mil. a year, so your fears were unfounded.

However, now you should be afraid of what they might take from your lacrosse program. All the boosters have taken their money and gone home. They're not playing your savior's (Hobbs) game anymore and now the school will have to pluck from it's own coffers. Couple that, with football about to hemorrhage even more money from this uninspiring selection and they just might have to cut back somewhere.
