Philadelphia Inquirer "pre" story about tonight's game

As you can see, it is written totally from the perspective of Penn State. This is our biggest problem in South Jersey -- the largest newspaper does not regard Rutgers as a home team. The same is true of TV in this area.
Too bad the Courier Post also honeyd*** to Penn State to this day. They don't even give Temple props down there.

Why wouldn't the flagship newspaper and TV stations out of PENNSYLVANIA'S largest city be biased toward PENN STATE? Maybe NJ.com/Star-Ledger could learn from them.

OTOH, the Inquirer has been very active in covering the Sandusky affair. There is a prominent story on the front page today about the judge in the case disqualifying himself as a result of the ethically improper behavior of Sandusy's counsel. The Inquirer may write from a Penn State perspective, and cover the team virtually daily during football season, but they are not at all uncritical.

OTOH, the Star-Ledger/NJ.com has been very active in making a mountain out of a molehill for every misstep Rutgers makes, no matter how small. The Star-Ledger/NJ.com seems to almost always write from a critical of Rutgers perspective. If we start to win, hopefully that will change, but even when we were winning under Schiano and Mulcahy, they found a way to run him out of town.

Sorry to hijack your thread. Think that the Inquirer strikes the correct balance of being fairly objective.

Not a hijack at all. I agree that the Inquirer strikes the right balance, and agree that the S-L harps on negativity. Unfortunately, there are New Jerseyans who seem to agree with the S-L. This state has very little state pride.

It's been like that for a half century.
Half a century? how about FOREVER?

The politicians and powerbrokers of this state never thought enough about the residents to create a state university until after world war two. And then they used that event to convince Rutgers to surrender its medical school to me managed by the minions of the politicians... who used it to create no show jobs and use padded expense accounts to drive UMDNJ to bankruptcy... only to give it back (and its debts) to the State U during an attempt to wrest control of the entire school.

The people of this state should rise up and boot every politician who supported such a plan (along with their operatives in the media) .. and if they had any state pride they would do so.

NJ has always been the road between Philadelphia and NYC. Not surprisingly, northern residents were all NYC and southern were all Philly since the identity of NJ has been as a just another borough of one or the other. Add to this that the professional teams and college teams also became who they root for.
As already noted, Rutgers was created well after the die was cast and they have not come close to catching up.

Too bad most of the politicians who were up for reelection got reelected this month. People always say "Remember in Novemeber." But as the EYE-Talians always say, the voters EVERYWHERE AND EVERYONE always remember STU-GOTTS when it counts.
