So you want people to be loyal to a team simply based on where they live?
You do know that the Nets were a Long Island team before NJ and now are in Brooklyn??? Probably not based on your responses.

New Jersey basically only consists of the Northern half Jersey when it comes to sports and that is from a south Jersey resident. South Jersey is basically an eastern wing of Pennsylvania.

And why are south jersey people ok with that? Are they?
I really do notice more jersey pride from central on up... what’s the deal ?

I'm a Rutgers fan, a Yankee fan, a Devils Fan and a Cowboy fan. I live in PA now. Your arguement is as dumb as the people around here telling me I should switch who I root for because I now live in PA.

I was talking about when they were here. They left because people from Jersey rather support other states team's. Atleast you got appreciation for RU, devils and Cowboys. Dallas is Americas team - so that automatically counts as the home team.

Doesn't matter about the out of state newspapers. We have NINE MILLION people in New Jersey and we just need our own papers covering Rutgers sports on a consistent basis--Atlantic City Press,Courier Post in Camden County,Asbury Park Press,the Vineland and Cape May papers,the New Jersey Herald in Sussex County,Bergen Record,Morris County Daily Record,Jersey Journal,etc.And yes,even the Newark Star-Liar.--We also need the little TV access that we have--News 12,Fios, and New Jersey Public TV to get on board. And the FCC should do their job and strip the current owners at Channel 9 of the license like they should have done decades ago.

A lot of South Jersey is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. An awful lot of people commute from N.J. across the Delaware. The TV stations, most of the radio stations, and the highest circulation newspapers are in Philly. And the rest of New Jersey seems condescending, to say the least, to South Jersey. Its true. North/Central Jersey folks treat South Jersey residents like second class citizens. So of course they latch onto Philly/PA.

Atleast your friend has some kinda PA in their blood. Im talking much worse. People from SJ - who have never been a resident of PA.. But love penn st, love temple. Not even alums of the school- but got pride in em. Mention Rutgers and they look lost. South Jersey was more excited about temple football winning, then they were rutgers. And they hate when New Jersey teams - like the devils, and previously the nets were good. They love Pennsylvania

The sports editor of the Inquirer, Gary Potosky, is a good friend of mine. We graduated together (LC'87). Trust me when I say he would like to run a Rutgers story on every page of the sports section. Unfortunately, what he wants to do and what he is able to do are two completely different things.

I'm VERY familiar with the story. [laughing]

I, along with my friends, Matt and Skip, arrived in Crappy Valley late on Friday night before the game. We had nowhere to sleep so we crashed your hotel room. I think there were 7 or 8 guys sleeping in that room that night.

Oh man! It was all a blur to me. I spoke to my buddy Mackin last night and he reminded me that Dick Anderson knocked on our door and told us to keep the noise level down since they had a big game the next day! I had totally forgot about that incident.

Aside from the pasting PSU gave us the next day, watching the RU team buses pass us by while on the shoulder of the road trying to figure out the problem with Gary's car (shredded treads on the tire that exposed the steel belts), was just icing on the cake during that nightmare trip.

Indeed, it was all-around nightmare trip. Matt, Skip and I averted a disaster on our drive back home. Near the Delaware Water Gap, a deer hopped over the concrete divider. I swerved to get out of the way so I wouldn't hit the deer, but the deer ran head first into my back left tire. Fortunately, there wasn't much damage just an indented hubcap (back when cars had hubcaps!) and a few minor scratches. The deer was dazed momentarily but shook it off, and then continued on its way.
