Figures the Pike haters, who were strangely absent after the PSU win, are back in force. Trolls who have no idea how good Pike has been for RU as coach: 3 NCAA tourneys (yes 2020 counts), which should've been 4 if not for getting screwed, every home game sold out, winning games against very good teams and recruiting two top 5 recruits, although admittedly he has not found the best way to coach them and the rest of the team. Yet. If we're still talking about bad losses at 17-14 or something like that, then it's time to say he failed as a coach, this year, but not yet. And certainly not overall. Very proud to have this good, decent man, who can coach, as our coach and am certainly not ready to count us out this year, even though things don't like good right now. We'll see.

Go seed some clouds

I’m not even reading the OPs message.

How incompetent do you have to be to recruit two of the top players in the country and proceed to blow the season before conference play?

He cant coach Xs and Os, and he can’t recruit in the portal. There’s no path towards being successful in CBB in 2024 with both of those things being true.

Nope

His best team didn’t make the tournament!

Covid
Made tournament ( pikes Houston game)
Play in game pike gets embarrassed by ND
Missed the tournament
Awful team
Now 2 of top picks in the draft and still sliding back. Embarrassing

Pike has been on a steady decline and this year will set RU hoops back over a decade.
Pray the top 2 dogs don’t start sit to g out come February

#s face reality. The future looks dim.

Pikiell has two NBA lottery picks and has turned this season into their personal showcase for their draft stock instead of implementing a real offense and real players around them. Rutgers is going to miss the tournament, and if so Pike shouldn’t be the coach here any longer. A second round tournament collapse shouldn’t be the high mark for this program. Mostly when teams in our own backyard with far less resources seem to outperform us year after year.

Look, I think Pike did wonders making this program relevant or at least out of the dredges but his ability to construct a team is woefully inadequate. If NIL was the issue then I would rather have seen him not sign Acuff, Martini, Hayes and sign a solid B1G capable player, and develop Dortch and Grant. This is turning out to be the most disappointing season ever. Pike is a good man but I fear his ceiling is low.

College basketball really isn’t the same sport as to when Pike arrived at Rutgers, and he hasn’t shown any reason to prove himself in the transfer portal era

the bottom line is last year was horrific and he isnt getting it done this year. Your points about his success definitely count alot but I think if there is a ncaa miss this season, Pike is going to be judged on his next 2 seasons and next year could be ugly

his recruiting has always been an issues...its flaring up for many reasons this year

You can talk about how bad the program was before Pike got here and how he’s a decent man and blah blah blah. All true btw.

But the bottom line is the program is on a downward trend on the court. Not making the dance in 3 straight years deserves all the criticism in the world, especially with the expectations this year.

this assessment is dead wrong. And pike sucks.

Bruh…..come on man…..based upon what we have seen thus far we may have a record as bad as last season, this team may not even go 17-14. They have been a massive disappointment based upon the on court product we have watched thus far this season. I am not calling for Pike to be fired but this has been an awful start to this season.

I appreciate what he has done here, but I think he's on a fast downward trajectory given the "Players" Era, as it is now. His is obviously doing something wrong. Martini and Acuff mega busts. Ogbole and Sommerville weak, weak defense. Hayes can make 3s very well but somehow gets no shots game after game. Loyal to JMike who is a decent defender but massive offensive liability.

Not sure what to make of the original post. Seems like he knows we're sunk but does not want to admit it.

"recruiting two top 5 recruits, although admittedly he has not found the best way to coach them and the rest of the team."

If part of your plea includes Pike being a decent man, that's a bad sign.

I can't figure out what stage of grief he is in.

nobody is ever going to agree but in the same vein as college football... the developmental and culture building coaches are going to fail more and more in this new era

its not pikes "fault" per se however the coaches who could not adapt to the nil era have either retired or moved on in their respective sports

you need to be a better salesmen than developer to be successful in college

I think it just depends how you feel about mediocrity. Pikes ceiling and floor are the exact same. Mediocre. This season was supposed to be as good as it gets. Unfortunately I think that may prove to be true. Pikes a good man and deserves credit for resurrecting the program. But there is no next gear. At his best, he will deliver a first round tournament loss every 3-4 years with the other being lost causes.

Exactly what I thought when I saw it. That dude hates Pike. Never missed a chance to take a shot or pile on.
Love Pike the human! Love Pike pre new era of basketball. Love Pike the defensive assistant.

Pike has declined badly for 5 straight years and now is fumbling 2 HOF talent players. He’s bad at X n O, offense plays , in bounds, substituting, portal, free throw shooting. Those are facts for every team he has had. Next years team might not win 10 games. No way to sugar coat it!

It's over for him. He's blowing a team with two top 3 recruits. He'll hang on for a few years because of his contract but love him or hate him, it's coming to an end. After this debacle, outside NIL will dry up and recruiting which was already tough will become impossible.

To be fair, the ISO you see IS real offense. It’s a choice, probably the best choice with the roster as it is. Further, would Dylan and Ace have come here were the offense something different ?

There was never going to be cohesive, 5 player offensive production with those two, Williams and the roadkill around them. The announcers harped on our two starters in foul trouble. LOL. Those two being starters tells you all you need to know about this team being undermanned overall against most teams.

He stinks, and I'm not a hater of anyone, but I've been a disliker for a number of years

No one is debating Pike is a good man and very Likeable. He was just what we needed when he arrived.

The truth is we are done with him at the helm. Stuff gets stale and old and a change is needed.

It’s also because we have an inept Athletic Department. This school is run like the NY Jets

There is no way he gets 2 more seasons if we do not go to the tournament this season. The wheels will have completely fallen off the bus.

I usually do the complete opposite of what OP suggests so its just funny to me that today is the first day I am leaning towards the fire Pike train and OP is telling us how great he is because we went to the dance twice in 8 years.
