Pikiell At Quaker Steak & Lube Edison - October 4th 7:30pm - Radio Show

Putting the weight on for Thaim is great, but his real calling card has to be taking and making perimeter shots. It doesn't matter how chiseled he might get. If he can't improve his release point, time to release, and accuracy it doesn't matter.

I love Thaim's IQ, willingness to defend, and unselfishness. He isn't blessed with athleticism and will need to drain 3s with confidence and from deep to help us get Ws. If not, he is only getting minutes by default. No team wins doing that out of the 3 position.

To me adding weight is not about getting chiseled. Its more about having a sturdier/stronger base and core. He needs to add strength as much to his lower body as any other part.

Hoping that better conditioning and size helps him on the perimeter, too - I don't think he was ready for the physicality of play in conference last year, and better size/conditioning might help him be more resilient this year. Also hoping that he'll be dealing with less off the court having become more acclimated to college and the US.

Through the first 11 games, he went 18/49 (36.7%)... then he got the flu and subsequently struggled through the tougher portion of the schedule (7-40,17.5%) before finishing 5/10 against OSU and Northwestern in the B1G Tournament.

Good Stuff. A few observations.

- Thiam up 16 pounds
- Competition in practice is much improved with every presumed position starter being pushed.
- I think we will see more uptempo. Pikiell flat out said he could not implement a running offense with CJ Gettys as the center.
- Expect to see Corey Sanders off the ball at times to make it more difficult for defenders to check him.

** I think a "Catch and Drive" Sanders will be dynamic.

Watched this mornIng. Good show. Recco is way better than Carlin. Coach seems to be on the right track. Can't wait to see an improved team this year.
