For many, the expectations for the 2016 recruiting class have cratered after the well documented impact of the 2015 season and the late start by Ash and his staff.

That being said what is the bar for an acceptable recruiting class rating for Rutgers football in 2017?

I think people will be more interested in the general percentage of Top NJ targets that RU pursues and then commit to RU.

(It's becoming clear that there will be some very good players that Ash will not choose to pursue, if only because of lack of fit in the culture)

Based on the NJ.com slideshows, I think the best Schiano or Flood ever did was about 33% of the top in-state targets.

The lofty "expectations" for the 2016 class were crushed a long time ago and this class wasn't getting any better, this year, than the low 50s it was ranked when Flood was fired.

2017? I think 35'ish is a goal to shoot for to be honest.

I think it will be a tough year next season record wise, considering the new system and that Coach Ash won't have all of the players that he'd like to have to run his system. Of course, if the games are competitive and they play an exciting brand of ball, it could still attract good recruits despite the record. I'm not concerned about national recruiting ranking because our competition is in the B10, so if he can get a class that ranks in the middle of the B10 for 2017, I think that would be more than "acceptable" for me.

New, good, high profile coaches always tear it up in their 2nd class.....top 20 is the goal for Rutgers.

How about we get through the 2016 Recruiting Class first ?
People already throwing in the towel.....gezz

Anything less than top 35 will be discouraging to me with this young hungry staff with a full year to work..

I'll go into detail

Top 25 - A
26-35 - B
36-45 - C
46-55 - D
over 55 - F

Top 20 New Jersey recruits

7 or more A
5-6 B
3-4 C
2 D
0-1 F

The amount of Jersey kids will be interesting to watch. Did Flood poison the desire for Jersey's finest to stay home or is it deeper than that. Can Ash and staff make Rutgers a legitimate option? Go get good players from wherever, the Jersey angle seems why overplayed.

I don't have high standards, and I don't follow Rutgers much, but if they don't get a top ten class next year and at least the top 10 NJ recruits, then they should bring back Flood.
