I'm 57 don't think I'm ever going to see this......at least I have Mets '69 and '86 and Jets '70 to fondly remember..

I think the odds would favor Rutgers simply based on the frequency of the event, once per year versus every four years. It is also not unknown for programs to suddenly rise up. Will it happen in my lifetime? Not sure I would bet my retirement money on it, but there is hope. There is always hope

Liberals and conservatives will work together and agree on things lonnnng before either of these things happen.

Definitely rutgers national championship, which will happen within 10 years. No water USA men win a world Cup by then.

Rutgers=USMNT
Not much (good) history; made some national noise on occasion; fighting to overcome years of neglect; will never be a blue blood

I had to google USMNT to figure out which sport it was:joy:
World Cup sounded familiar, but I couldn't place it:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

If the mistake on the lake can win a title, the f*** it so can RU!

I would also much rather have one of my schools win a National Championship in football than any professional or US team...

Gut reaction is I'd agree with @RUtix4me, go with Rutgers because they get an at bat every year, where the USMNT only gets an at bat every 4 years.

In reality, I think it's going to be a long road for either. Only 8 countries have ever won the World Cup and the US has only made the top 4 once, in 1930. On the other hand, Florida was the last program to win it's first National Title, in 1996. Since then I think only Oregon is the only program to even play for it's first title (2010 and 2014).

Edit: VT also played for their first in 1999.

I cast my vote for Rutgers football. Reason being that in the U.S., I would guess that soccer ranks behind football, basketball, baseball, hockey, golf, and maybe tennis on the list of sports that boys dream of growing up to play professionally. I guess in this day and age you could probably toss in MMA as well. So you are really not getting many of the best male athletes in the nation to begin developing in soccer as youngsters. On the women's side, it's a little different, because there are no serious professional options for football, baseball, and hockey, so soccer probably gets a much bigger cut of the better athletes. Not to mention WNBA players don't make anywhere near what NBA players make.

As for Rutgers football, we already have pretty high caliber athletes playing the sport in our backyard. It's just a matter of getting them to commit to RU. I think in the end, that's an easier sell than getting kids to commit to a different sport.
