1) We simply dont have enough big ten quality players, especially scorers. Teams are now swarming geo the second he touches the ball and at this point we dont have many other guys that can make teams pay for extending their D.

2) Montez is going to be a good one. Hes the best player we have at getting to the rim, kid is just powerful. I was playing ball with a former hudson catholic assistant on Tuesday night and he told me they played John Caroll last year and he was very impressed with how montez got to the rim. I expect him to keep growing.

3) for the crowd that says corey leaving would allow other players to grow, well lets see it. Pike better play harper, mcconnell and montez a ton the rest of the year. This season is lost, we have to get these kids experience. Also outside of Geo these 3 kids are the best 3 on the team at getting to the rim Montez then harper then caleb and we have to find harpers shot. These three also are bar none the 3 toughest players on the team imo. For those that dont go to games you might not notice but caleb stands down to no one, he’ll get in your face. Montez stood up and went right to fernandez on that play that stopped the game where he got a foul and harper has no problem mixing it up. These three need to play a ton more.

4) issa needs to be benched for the remainder of the season. Hes a black hole on O and tbh i think his defense is highly overrated. At this point all hes doing is taking away minutes from the above 3.

5) Myles Johnson needs to play a ton and toughen up the rest of the year. Id play him 25 mins a night and challenge his ass to be more assertive.

Bottom line, this team needs more scorers. I dont think jacob young is the answer, we NEED a quality grad transfer, juco or top tier high school player who can fill up the cup

Agreed. But what about shaq carter, he looks good everytime he is on the floor but pike rarely plays him.
Agreed he needs to play a bunch more too. Id cut doorsons minutes and id completely eliminate issa. There is ZERO need for a 10 man rotation

Spot on.

Mathis is terrific at driving the lane and getting to the tin. Finishing though? He missed about five bunnies today. But I’m sure he will learn how to finish better.

What makes you think that this staff can recruit a scorer in Year 4 when it’s proven incapable of that so far? We need to face the facts that h.s. scorers would rather play for a winning mid-major than sign with Pikiell and be stuck on Rutgers that has no coherent offense because the talent pool is still so shallow. Why would a grad or JuCo with choices sign with Rutgers, where he’d be doubled or trippled because the rest of the roster is so challenged?

You know whats impressive about his driving ability? Considering the fact that we have really no shooters hes getting to the rim through a ton of traffic. Kid is STRONG

I dont know but it has to happen. I told everyone to temper expectations for Kiss, I said that I would be happy if he could play even just 10 to 12 minutes per game and knock down a couple threes. I just never saw it when I went back and watched some of his Quinnipiac games

Agree but Rutgers needs more than one guy. The talent level isn’t close to what it needs to be. The freshmen are better than the upperclassmen but we still need to get a lot better.

RU seems lost. No confidence from anyone. Not impressed with Mathis. He has no shot and makes some awful decisions being too aggressive. He should have gotten a Flagrant 1 on the obvious pull down. If Geo can't hit a shot, the team may not win another game. I was optimistic for the season, but the last few games have changed my mind. Just a poor effort from everyone today. And I think Coach will really earn his money if he can get the team to play smarter and shoot with more confidence. There are no easy answers. And giving up the season and just playing the freshmen is not it. You're still trying to win games.

Just saw the box score. 8 rebounds from Mathis is nice to see.

RU team fundamentals are sound, unfortunately there are no points given for fundamentals, Maryland shot a better overall percentage, from the floor, from three, and the foul line, as long as we continue to shoot the ball dead last in the league, dead last is where we will finish.

Good crowd today and just a really disappointing first half. We do not have that go to guy to break a drought by going to the hoop and drawing a foul. Geo is struggling to get off a shot with teams swarming him and there appear to be little other options.

After watching Mathis struggle the fist few games, he has been much better and had a good game today. He is strong, athletic and tough, but not a natural scorer. Agree with the sentiments above that we need to play the freshman more. With the exception of Eugene, our upperclassmen do not appear to be leaders, so let them play their roles on the bench. Agree that three freshman might be the toughest on the team.

Pretty much spot on.....i would say carefully that when teams don't get calls, it takes time to learn how to play through those non calls or bad calls. Right now there's no true pecking order on where to go for a basket or someone to stop a run...someone has to draw a foul.

The issue is Maryland like everyone in the conference does scouting and breaking down tendencies. We played Issa a LOT of minutes out of necessity in his 1st 2 years because the roster wasn't left with much, in hopes he could take a step forward in Years 3 and 4.

Eugene battles hard as is undersized vs a Nick Ward of MSU or Fernando and Smith of Maryland. The hopes of him keeping teams honest from 3, has gone away.....he has to take 3 a game because teams are giving those looks to him, knocking down 1 of those, would create more spacing. The rest are just puppies learning how to first find room to score.

The key is finding a way next year to carve out time for Mulcahy and Young. Right now we have Baker and Mathis that can generate something off thr dribble, while McConnell and Harper are good to at least know what play should be made. Young and Mulcahy are definitely better off the dribble than Kiss and Thiam. But they have to get acclimated next year as well.

Kiss should be better but doesn't seem to have any diversification of his offense...he can go off the dribble but it's not explosive enough. Thiam is completely stationary and there's nothing a team scouting RU needs to worry about, other than closing out on him as a shooter.....anything off the dribble isn't taken with confidence where he can make shots.

Carter showed some toughness with the block early, and he needs more minutes. The problem is we have 10 players and cant completely disregard Thiam and Kiss, there are 17 to 18 more games of learning and development.

The last 2019 or 2020 recruiting spot for a stretch 4 to replace Eugene is what frees up the offense once next year arrives. The rest of this season is all about frosh minutes and confidence for knowing what they can do and what has to be worked on.

Maryland played well and just better at almost every position right now. RU will need another plus player in recruiting and player development to close these gaps vs the rest of the B1G.

I don’t think geo can do much off the dribble against elite teams unless he is off the ball. At least not the way he is playing right now.

Interesting statistic on mid range jumpers, that is, shots outside the paint but inside three point range. Maryland was 8 of 14, RU was one for 14
