Prediciton...On March 11, 2018, ...Rutgers makes the NCAA tournament as the 10 seed

[QUOTE="Scarlet Shack, post: 2430540, member: 1528"
Having said that...I really think the INDIVUDAL skill level that is here is much better than people give credit[/QUOTE]

Who?

Sanders and ?

You are banking on players that you have never seen in a Rutgers uniform. A lot of this is based on what you are wishing/hoping players are.

Most likely we do have more talent than we have seen since Rice's good class.

GRF, just about every player on the roster will be an upgrade from the player he replaces from last year. And some will be monumental upgrades. Like how we are replacing Goode with Thiam or Daniels with Johnson (and I know how much you just loved Daniels last year).

Is there any reason to believe Corey stays? He flirted with leaving this year. Would be surprised if he says for a 3rd even it means playing in the D league....

He never flirted with leaving last year contrary to popular belief. Because of the new rules regarding testing for NBA and declaring/withdrawing every player with credible future NBA aspirations does what Corey did. He is in no rush to leave though its his ultimate goal. I believe he will be here through AT LEAST his JR year.

Just like the football program had to wait 27 years between the 1978 Garden State Bowl and the 2005 Insight bowl

the men's Bball program will have to go 27 years without a NCAA tournament appearance

but that WILL end on March 11, 2018 at a Rutgers makes the NCAA as at at large bid as the 10 seed..

As ironic as it could be that we would be playing Arizona State (our last opponent in the 1991 NCAA tournament and the teams we played on BOTH sides of the Bowl streak in 1978 and 2005)....I am CERTAINLY not going that far to predict that

:)

Let's get it done!

I'll take this.

After a 11-2 OOC ...im feeling better about this prediction for next year (10th seed NCAA) I made in October

Hoping for 7-11 in big ten play, a win in the Big ten tournament ....and 19-14 getting us to the NiT and getting 20 wins with the entire team (less Gettys) coming back

I thing we need to temper expectations a little. The last two games are showing we need more help on the roster than just Baker next year and whoever we get for 2018.

If Corey stays for his Jr. year, I could see this happening. I'd love to see it.
Sanders is going to have to get a whole lot better to get drafted after his SENIOR year so I'm not too worried about him leaving after this year.
advice...slow down, this team is going to need some players that can shoot
I think this team could actually be pretty good next year. We return almost everyone. Hopefully they will learn to make better decisions with the ball and when penetrating. Right now they don't always have a purpose when driving and they throw up terrible shots. Meanwhile Wisc always had a purpose when driving. They just played more like a team.

Pretty much this. They may develop a little more but they still are who they are at the end of the day.

They are leaving. Many will not be given an option.

We'll have a similar record next year. Maybe lose 2-3 more non-conference games because it won't be so cupcake laden. Then we pick up an extra win or two in conference.

9-4 + 5-13 is my call. One win in the conference tourney.

16-15/6-12...that should be the goal, very reasonable, could get a game higher or two higher if EVERYTHING fell into place but that would not get this team in any NCAA tournament. You have to figure while the OOC will be improved it will not be improved drastically where we are playing multiple top 50 schools. RU would have to be 21-10/10-8 at minimum to be a legit bubble team with a weak schedule. A 7 game swing in the Big 10 while bringing in the 14th rated class in the conference? That is alot to be wishing for.

The whole season showed the need for shooters that aren't currently on the squad.The B1G has young talent that might make the league even tougher next season.Status quo roster won't improve Rutgers chances for better results in won/loss record.

I made this prediction last October....and I still really think we have a shot.

What has to happen, in reverse order
6.) Must stay relatively healthy
5.) Team must play just as hard, if not harder on the court this year than last
4.) Thiam and Baker must become a solid threats from beyond the three point line
3.) Corey needs to come out and play to his all big ten potential
2.) We need to learn how to finish games and use the experience from all of those close losses and turn them into wins...
1.) Mike and Deshawn need to have some "senioritis" kick in. Don't underestimate these two guys hunger and if they get the rest to buy in...we have a shot

Looking forward to having a regular season to making our performance in the Big ten tournament decide if our name is called on Selection Sunday

Sorry Shack with the OOC schedule so bad we need at least 21 wins. I mean everything has to be perfect. I will add a couple to your list:

6)Doucoure has to become eligible. Not enough bodies down low to last a B1G schedule without him.
7)Speaking of Doucoure, I think once he's here him and Johnson must combine for say 22 minutes, and say 10ppg/5rpg. This could be all done by one player or evenly distributed between both of them. Yes this is way high for freshmen big men but we need something way better than expected to get to the dance.

this team isnt making the NCAA tournament and the OOC is abysmal meaning they would need to 10-8 or better in the Big 10 or make the conference tourney semis

20 plus wins not likely this season .Lack of scoring probably won't be addressed until 2018.Very easy out of conference schedule will make it easier for a winning season which should be the goal for 2017-18.

Agree 100%, plus no tripups OOC, 11-2 or better. That's how I got my 21 wins.

Where's Scarlet Shack and what has rutgersal done with him? ;)

I understand your guys points ...there is a lot of basketball evidence of what we have seen last year to complete justify saying I'm nuts

However, I saw a team that found a way to compete and lost an insane number of games that they had control. They leaned to compete and at the end of the year they started to learn how to win

If this team got better (and I remain in the camp that there is the potential for a disproportionate amount of improvement from year 1 to year 2 in the first real off season.) and keeps its hunger ...I think we have a real
Shot at a surprise type of season

It's a reach based on what we've seen for sure but I saw enough to say there is a lot of upside on what I saw that could make a major upturn in the wins and losses

Enough for the NCAA ? Big stretch but I think it has a shot.

This is a uber-aggressive forecast and solely relies on RU somehow continuing to be elite on the offensive glass and to improve it's FT shooting by a ton.

Gettys timely baskets will be sorely missed, but I still believe RU is very strong defensively, especially in Year 2 vs Year 1....the rotations should be better on shooters, the playing of defense on pick and rolls (only real Gettys exposure), will be key for Myles Johnson, Candido Sa and especially Doucoure. Can they get up to speed and avoid giving up easy baskets because of lack of experience??

I think Baker will take those tough shots that Nigel took late last year against the shot clock and free up Corey off the ball to freelance and get into attack mode. Mike Williams should be very steady and solid most nights, he is the least of my worries right now.

RU only needs one player to step forward with a small step forward of 3 more PPG or 3 more attempts from 3 per game....(Thiam or Freeman will likely be those players to add another 3 pointer per game to make RU a little tougher to guard).

I don't see the record anywhere Shack's initial look a year or so ago, because this league has improved in most spots BUT there are opportunities with a home and home vs Ohio State to make step forward.

Need to beat Florida State and Wisconsin at home before the teeth of the schedule catches up to us to have a winning season.

I love all of the optimism around this program and would like nothing more than Scarlet Shack to be correct.

That said I think we are at least a year away from making a legitimate run at the NCAA tournament.

Hope i am wrong about this year!!

This season will be tough to think NCAA's. We probably stink again in conference play and under .500. But the future is looking up and I think pike has us dancing in 3 years

I don't know if I'd even take 100 to 1 odds on this....but to happen

Break up regular season to 20 P5 games (SHU, FSU, and B1G) AND 11 non P5.

Need to come out of the gate and go 12-3 at New years...embedded is 4 P5 games FSU,SHU, @minny, MST. I have us 10-1 in non P5 and 2-2 in the P5ers.

I think the key would to be fortunate and face programs in a down year playing out the string late in the year.....and we might have it.

LAST 6 (can we get 4?)
IU
@Neb
NW
@MD
@OSU
Illinois

That would put us at 16-5. Analyzing the meat (middle)
@Purdue NO
WISC MAYBE
@MST NO
OSU YES
IOWA MAYBE
@MICH NO
NEB YES
@PSU NO
@ILL MAYBE
PUR MAYBE

Give me 2 MAYBE and 2 YES and we hit 20......but we still have a lot of heavy lifting.

We sit at 20-11 9-9. Depending on bubble we need 1 for sure and maybe 2. 9-9 in B1G could carry a lot of weight.

Win game 1 @msg and face 1 seed in quarterfinals and lose a close one.

21-12 we are in a play in game on Wednesday in Dayton Ohio.

Back to reality
my prediction on September 28th....
9-2 non P5
5-15 P5
14-17
