I will post a comprehensive piece on Sunday, since I know Princeton as well as Rutgers, doing Yale games on the radio. Rutgers has opened as a 7 point favorite, which is spot on in my book and consistent with the 76-68 score which a guy who has played against both projected to me last night. Princeton will front and back Cliff with Martini and probably Allocco and force him to make post moves away from the basket. People need to realize that Princeton plays more like Iowa than most any team on the Rutgers schedule. They push it and run.

I’m so excited to have this rivalry back, I know that’s not necessarily the consensus, but local rivalries just have more juice. Know plenty of PU folks who I look forward to re-engaging in smack talk with.

Kind of surprised RU is favored by that much. Princeton was in the Sweet 16 last year. If my math is correct, you have to win two games in the NCAA Tournament to pull that off. Rutgers has not done that in over 45 years. Also, given that it's a neutral site game, I'm not so sure this will show up as Quad 3. I think Quad 2 is definitely on the table.

All that said, Princeton and Seton Hall are both big opportunities for good neutral and road wins. If RU can pull off the sweep, the NCAA committee will like that.

There is very little upside to this game...a quad 3 win, big whoop. The downside is painful.

I'd much rather player a team who is a sure fire quad 2 game.

Hope this is the last time we play them.
There will always be Quad 3 opponents on our schedule - why wouldn’t you want it to be a local rival with an impressively long history instead of Loyola of Bumble****?

If we want our strength of schedule to improve, having less games against the Central Conneticut States of the world and replacing them with these top 150-200 level teams is a great step in the right direction

I hate quad 3 opponents, and would rather there be none of them on the schedule. Take all the quad threes off the schedule, and replace them with a combination of twos and fours.

I suppose that would be nice. Is there a single school that does that? Doesn’t seem likely we will be the trailblazer. So that being the realistic case, I’ll take Princeton over a non rival quad 3.

I agree that spread is awfully big for this game. Was expecting about 2 or 3.

Not a lot of OOC Q3 games being played by major conference teams. Looking at last year's NET top 40:

1 Houston (1)
2 Alabama (1)
3 UCLA (1)
4 Tennessee (1)
5 Purdue (3)
6 Gonzaga (1)
7 Texas (1)
8 UConn (1)
9 Kansas (3)
10 Arizona (2)
11 St. Mary's (6)
12 Marquette (3)
13 FAU (2)
14 SDSU (5)
15 Baylor (0)
16 Duke (0)

17 Creighton (2)
18 Utah St (6)
19 Texas A&M (1)
20 Iowa St (1)
21 Arkansas (6)
22 Xavier (0)
23 Memphis (1)
24 Kansas St (3)
25 WVU (1)
26 Kentucky (1)
27 Virginia (1)
28 TCU (0)
29 Boise St (2)
30 Indiana (1)
31 Maryland (0)
32 Auburn (4)
33 MSU (2)
34 Illinois (1)
35 Miami (2)
36 Oral Roberts (1)
37 Nevada (5)
38 North Texas (4)
39 Iowa (0)
40 Rutgers (4)

The only major conference team on this list to play more OOC Q3 games than us was Arkansas, with only Auburn matching us.

Very surprised also.

Some of you sound like bean counters that never played sports or deeply followed a sports team. Rivalries are awesome!
For the fans, and yes, for the players. This is a geographically obvious rivalry and a long time on the playing field rival, although not so much recently.
Yes play this game every year! I don’t care if it’s quad 3 and we lose 1x every 4 years.
It’s a midweek game that I’m driving a good distance to attend. No chance I’m doing that for any other home ooc game based on the opponent, but I wouldn’t want to miss this one. I’m certain more fans share my general sentiment and would list this as their most looking forward to home/nj ooc game (other than SH).

I will concede that if we were going to only play one q3 game of year, I'd rather it be Princeton than some other rando.

And it's possible restarting this series may help to rekindle what has been well on its way to becoming a dormant rivalry like the Lehigh and Lafayette. I bet most fans under 40 don't really have strong feelings about playing Princeton.

Cliff has never played Princeton.
Pikiell has never coached Princeton.

It may be a rivalry to you but the game has no extra significance to the players.
It’s like Rutgers vs Navy in football… never expect to relax sitting in your seats. Like a trip to your dentist for a root canal. Could be a good or bad outcome ?

Love this game. It’s Rutgers v Princeton!
A win looks good and a lost doesn’t hurt you.
Rivalry game.
Trenton is odd but a neutral Court win or loss.

Exactly. We have a group of 4 heading to the game.

We have been over it a million times why this game is no good for us and SHU is better.

And just a reminder of the annual NET rankings for those who may have missed it those million times:

2022-23: SHU 77, Princeton 111
2021-22: SHU 48, Princeton 107
2020-21: SHU 57, Princeton n/a (Covid year)
2019-20: SHU 15, Princeton 166
2018-19: SHU 57, Princeton 180

Since NET has started, Princeton has never been a Q2 game at a home or neutral site.

Q3 games are high risk and low reward. Q4 games are low risk and low reward, while Q2 games are high risk and med/high reward.

For all the talk of this being a rivalry game, from Carino's article: "As of Nov. 1, fewer than 3,000 tickets had been sold for the 8,600-seat arena."

Less than a week out and the arena isn't even half full?
it's in Trenton

like the Bridge says "Trenton Makes, The World Stays the Fu*k out of Trenton"

Not surprising

Too early in season
Non rivalry
Monday
Trenton at night
Pretty pricey for crappy arena

Whose brilliant idea was to schedule at that crappy arena

Thank you for showing my work! 😂

I am going to go out on a limb here…….no one is getting murdered, carjacked, pickpocketed or even harassed going to the game.

People need to be smart and not be manipulated in to thinking crime is a huge problem.
For me, it's that it's on a Monday. Weekend game and I'd probably be there.

I think the players absorb any hype that is generated by the fans and media. So there is no doubt that this is a bigger game than some rando quad 3 game based on the coverage and discussion. I agree that the rivalry can grow a lot more intense once a recent on-court history develops.
