Proud to see them compete

The thread is pretty accurate....RU missed some makeable shots in the first half and should have had a much larger lead than 9 at half....SHU was just8-33 in the first half and not down by 14-15, it was only 9.

Basketball is 75% coaching and 25% talent/recruiting.....there are about 12-14 possessions a game, when the defensive team wins and the offense being run, isn't going to generate an open shot.....On those dozen possessions, the player has to have the overall skill-set or ability to beat their defender and generate a shot or get to the basket and draw fouls.....

As many of the RU pieces fit what we want to do defensively for the most part, the RU offense essentially comes down to Johnson and Sanders having that only ability to generate their own offense off the dribble. Mike Williams is a player that is best suited when the other guards are able to drive and kick to him, with space.....same with Thiam right now.....SHU has 4 players that can generate offense, one on one, against good defense.....those difference makers overcame RU's good defense.

SHU impressed me because they showed tonight they can rebound and get offensive rebounds....those extra possessions kept them in the game, so they could get extra fouls called against RU....they got to the double-bonus much quicker than they should have because of the ticky-tack calls, but they generated those calls.

Impressed by what I saw from RU tonight....RU could've used Thiam for about 12 -14 minutes and maybe he provides 4-6 points to make the final closer. But RU needs to get better players, period.....the missed layups by Freeman and Gettys are backbreaking type of plays, they could've stopped the bleeding or extended a lead early in the game. If you have a better or more consistent finisher, those sets Pikiell and the staff generated for these chances, can be converted with a better player inside.

There will be about 5-6 nights in the B1G, where those shots will fall....the only question is will the team get those efforts against some of the teams we can beat. The rest of the B1G season is essentially 18-19-20 Seton Hall type of games...... might as well find out what players are able to really develop against better competition and how does the team adjust to competition just like tonight for the B1G games.

There are no moral victories after a loss, but when your looking at a change in the way the RU MBB team plays, even after a loss, compared to how it was playing before
you can allow yourself to believe the RU MBB program has taken a big leap forward under Pikiell from it was under Jordan and will improve under him.

Freddie was over-matched as a HC and he did set the program back from what it was under Waters, but even under Gary it wasn't considered a constant winner.
Mulcahy made a giant mistake in hiring Freddie, but Waters wasn't showing his teams could eventually compete for the BE Title and every other year seemed to be a losing one.
Rice showed some promise in the beginning, but team seemed not to be progressing as fast as it should have been by the time MR threw his career away and wound up setting RU MBB back even further than Hill Jr did .
Jordan continued the downward spiral.
Now under Pikiell the way his team is playing, even in this loss, the competitiveness
this Rutgers team shows makes me think RU MBB is on the way to become a good program.

Bac as always excellent post.

My son and I were in Section 4 and the Rock was electric.

Pat Hobbs hit a home run with the hire of Coach Pikiell.

Bring on the B1G schedule and on to Wisconsin.

Lastly, a call to the RU faithful...get your butt to the RAC on January 1st for our B1G home opener vs Penn State.

Happy holidays to all.

Proud of the effort by Rutgers against a very good SHU team. Delgado and Rodriguez were the difference. Delagado is a physical presence down low that Rutgers doesn't have and Rodriguez is a scorer , something Rutgers hasn't had in a long time. I thought Carrington was largely neutralized by Williams and Johnson and made most of his points late when the game was largely over. Rutgers lost because SHU in the second half got points in the paint from Delgado ( and Rodriguez) and Rutgers ( Freeman and Gettys) was no longer getting any down low and when forced outside their lack of shooting hurt. Badly. Interesting that Diallo got a lot of minutes and played well , especially defensively. Man does Rutgers miss not having a consistent 3-pt shooting threat. And they also miss Sanders not even attempting mid-range jumpers that would otherwise open the low post somewhat. His lack of outside shooting has hurt and his confidence level must be low . When SHU packed the paint on defense it limited the effectiveness of a number of Rutgers players , especially Freemen , Gettys , and even Sanders. I really thought Omorunyi should have gotten more court time . I really like his potential and think in 2-3 years he will be outstanding.

I think winning basketball is at least 65% recruiting ,35% coaching.Rutgers was unsuccessful in the Big East because the talent was lacking. The experience in the B1G so far only reinforces that conclusion.

There is no gloom and doom this season. The team is 11-2, and we have a bunch of warriors that are playing for RU Basketball. Kids who have battled their whole lives.

If you do not now any of the stories, looking at them will make you root for this team even more. It is why i am such a big fan. Resilient kids who not only play basketball well, but they never stayed down when life threw them big punches. Deshawn Freeman, Corey Sanders, Kalil Batie. Just inspirational people.

Our offense is interesting. You get your shots by working for them. Everyone last night, besides Gettys at times, played within the concept of the offense.

That is awesome to see. Johnson is clutch, but still, this offense is not anywhere near 1 on 1 ball. If the offense allowed it, the ball should be in his hands.

Great game. I wish we played SHU more.
