PSU Writer Questions Rutgers Addition to B1G

Why would someone hate Rutgers? Who have we made really mad since 1869 for beating them? This is one team no one should be hating. We have not been good consistently to be hated.

Of course he's wrong, and many of our sports are doing great, but you can't be shocked by people saying this because -

- one win vs PSU fb in living memory

- we have never won a national championship in anything but fencing (in 1949)

- We have never played in a prestigious bowl game vs a ranked opponent

- We have never won outright a conference fb championship despite being in weak leagues

- until recently, very sub-Big 10 facilities for almost all sports and despite massive improvements in the last 5 years, we have a long way to go for facilities for track, tennis, baseball and softball and more.

- our W-L record in Big Ten fb is awful

- we are the only FB team other than Kansas to have not defeated a ranked team since 2009

- until 2019 our Mens' basketball program was been horrendous since 1976 with the exception of a few years here and there

So do I think we belong in the Big 10 - of course we do, but it is not illogical for some folks to think otherwise and believe Syracuse and Pitt deserved it more since each of them has had exponentially more success than us in the major sports historically.

No, it 100 percent is illogical. The entire thread before your post explains why. You should have saved time and read it before that explosive brain shart of a post.

This:

"Yeah right, like sports fans in New York care about Rutgers.

"The league should have added Pitt and Syracuse instead."
"Has it worked out financially as well as the Big Ten would have liked? We can't know for sure, because we don't see all the financials. But I can surmise that Syracuse would have brought more of a New York TV market than Rutgers."

Stopped reading right there. Had to change my pants was laughing so hard.

EDIT- I kept reading. It actually got worse, but laughed even harder.

What a dope.

None of that ever really mattered. The evidence? The only one that counts: we are IN the Big Ten.

The cuse dipshit was right about one thing. This was almost entirely about money.

I think we should all add to his list. I’m sure we could all come up with a mostly irrelevant factoid that should have OBVIOUSLY precluded the BIG presidents from taking us in. Here‘s one:

Rutgers never led the nation in blowhards that write nonsensical sports articles.

No B1G for us…duh…

Aren't there people still questioning the addition of PSU to the Big Ten? Anyone who can't grasp why the Big Ten needed to expand isn't fit to comment on the subject.

You should look up what the guy who owns the site, Dejan Kovacevic, has been accused of in the past. Even less reason to give the site hits.
Dejan is a pompous jerk wad. The guy thinks he walks on water and is some all knowing god in Pittsburgh. He has been accused of sexual misconduct and verbal abuse. He fights with other writers publicly about all sorts of things.

He also blocked me on Twitter because I made a joke about how the Pirates should trade a rookie to the Yankees/Sox now so we can avoid the 3 years of waiting.

Ignore this idiot. Corey Giger has always been one of those asshat writers who just writes crap to stir the pot. He been doing that on the Penn State beat for years.

How do you feel about the game Saturday? Does Rutgers have a chance?
Any given Saturday anything can happen. It all boils down to how healthy Clifford is. If Oenn State can get up by a few scores early then I think they run away with it. However if Rutgers can weather the early storm then it will be a tight game throughout.

Are there any data to back up (or disprove) this claim?

absolutely none.

he “surmises” it

Definition of surmise “suppose that something is true without having evidence to confirm it”

in other words he fully admits “I am completely pulling this out of my ass”

as far as disproving his claim…I am sure one can cite a bunch of greatly improved ratings and $$ dollar figures that the big10 has enjoyed since adding RU.

would Cuse have brought in more? Since Cuse is closer to the North Pole than it is to NYC, I am going to SURMISE they would not have.

oh and they are also not AAU so……

In order to "bring" the NYC tv market Syracuse would have needed to be "part" of the NYC market. NYC market stretches northwest to Sullivan County. Syracuse closest point to the NYC demo is 137.4 miles. A 2+ hour drive. If he said Syracuse may be a bigger tv draw in the NYC market he may have been correct. But that is not the way you monetize, or conclude better fit for conference realignment.

It would not surprise me to find out that Syracuse would draw more in NEW YORK CITY but as we all know the NYC market is far bigger than Manhattan (or even the 5 Boroughs of NYC).

Considering that New Jersey is a significant component of the NYC market It would surprise me to hear that 'Cuse would draw more in the NYC market.

this is a critical fact that the writer (and others like him) dont get.

We have won the last 7 out of 10 football games against Syracuse. Beat them again in football this year. Beat them in basketball last year. The author also mentioned the Mike Rice scandal, Julie Herrmann (sp?) etc…Syracuse’s basketball team has had numerous scandals that spanned over a decade and led to a suspension for Boeheim. Also, Syracuse Lacrosse (arguably its best sport historically) had a nasty scandal this past year leading to the ouster of the coach. Plus, the weather sucks. The only thing they have going for them is a good school of Journalism. Unfortunately, it didn’t do much for this stunad.

The writer is a fan of a team that covered up children being raped by the team's coaches. I think I'll just ignore him.

Didn't waste time clicking on the link: we know what type of "writer" this is. Didn't we have one from Toledo a couple of years ago?

No I get it. We are saying the same thing. The guy is a douche nozzle. You would think me pointing out that Syracuse is a 2+ hour drive from the closest part of the NYC demo would have crystallized that fact for you.

Sometimes the full breadth of someone’s point doesn’t come through completely on message board posts (like how sarcasm gets lost) Hence my use of the qualifier “perhaps”. ;)

Agreed. Sarcasm does get lost in text, email etc...And this literally is one of my least sarcastic responses in a Syracuse/Penn State related thread. The crap they spew usually writes itself.

Anyone thinking Syracuse has a presence here merely has to look at just how well they drew when they were playing games in the replacement for Giants Stadium (whatever it's called).

Obviously knows/understands very little about the B1G in general.
The cult hath spoken so don’t be upset…it is actually comical how little this clown understands the NY tv markets.Syracuse’s days of NY hype are long , long gone.
