Quayshon Alexander sounds like he's all but committed to Nebraska

I'm not Surprised anymore that we don't get current players brothers to committ. Floods is one of the lowest ranked recruiters in the P5.

So long as they can beat the big boys on the field (See Michigan) I trust they can coach the kids we get. Look at Michigan State-they didn't get the highest recruiting classes-they turned their 2 and 3 star kids in to a team that beat the big boys. We can do that too.

ummm Ronnie James? You know, Paul James' brother? As in the guy that Urban Meyer tried to steal from us?

In response to the OP article, Alexander is not the only recruit who was "all but committed" somewhere and then delayed because his parent told him to take his other visits... only to become no longer "all but committed" anymore.

"If it was just me, I would have committed by now," Alexander told HO. "That's just how confident I am in Nebraska and how much I really do love the school. I've talked with my coach and my mom about it and my mom doesn't want me to commit yet because she wants me to take my visits."

Do you know how many recruits said the SAME exact thing about us? Its not official till its official.

Big Deal, not a game changer. Get some OL's and a quality QB and we will be fine.

Nebraska is lying to this kid, he is not a LB and never will be. I guarantee that he will be a DE no matter what college he goes. Gregory was 230lbs and he played DE.

Nebraska is telling the kid what he wants to hear.

A 4 star recruit and number 143 overall in the Country whose brother plays for Kyle and not a big deal? If he committed here this place would be going nuts about the Jersey Strong 4 star who was going to open the floodgates. Now instead we hear: "Nebraska lies to recruits"! Maybe we could just make up something reasonable like, lot's of boys don't want to follow their older brother.

If we are really hanging our hat on beating a non-bowl Michigan at home in a year when their coach was dead in the water by the time we played them - well thats not a great sign for Flood.

The MSUs and Boises of the world are rare, and there is nothing in Floods resume so far to make one think that he is a better than average coach, given the talent he has had.

But we had a miracle comeback against the #49 team in the country and pasted UNC, we're on the way to glory. Flood seems a perfectly adequate game day coach. Perfectly adequate coaches better know how to recruit.

Here is a recruit that has never visited Nebraska and yet prefers that school over Rutgers where he has made numerous visits.I'm getting to believe that proximity isn't helping Rutgers when it comes to recruiting.

I didn't know that. In this case, Flood should pay for the trip. It is as horrible there in summer as much as winter. Godforsaken climate.

The 2 and 3 star kids for Mich State might be true 5 years ago, but their recruiting has picked up considerably in the last 5 years. I know their classes haven't been real high, and their coaching does get their kids to play over their rankings, but they are getting a lot more higher rated kids lately and way less 2 star players.

2011 2-4 star players
2012 3-4 star players
2013 3-4 star players
2014 5-4 star players
1-5 star player
2015 7-4 star players

For 2016 they already have 3-4 star players committed. Their recruiting is definitely on the upswing, and we need to say goodbye to the notion that Mich State is doing it all with 2-3 star recruits.

But Michigan State does show that this can be a legitimate path to elevating a program: taking lower rated recruits and consistently winning with them, thereby bringing in better recruits. Sometimes you need to build incrementally instead of always looking to make a quantum leap.

Of course its a legitimate path, one that every non OSU, Alabama, Mich, USC needs to take to build the program.

Of course for it to happen, you need to be lucky to get some good quarterbacks, and your coaches must coach up your players to outplay their rankings. They had a chart on this not too long ago, and Rutgers has yet to outplay the recruits rankings except for our one special year. and not to downplay it, but we didn't even win the conference.

Hopefully this year we can build on last year and persuade kids we are on the upswing, and get the higher ranked kids to take a chance.

I'm just saying this because it seems like there's a bunch of posters out there who think this year's recruiting will be a failure if we don't get a bunch of four stars. They don't seem to understand that last year Rivals had our recruits averaging 2.60 stars. Sometimes you have to learn to walk before you can run.

The problem is that we may be walking backwards.

Flood is a horrible recruiter. Anyone thinks or states publicly otherwise is delusional. Move up. Win with what we got.

Nebraska vs Rutgers isnt exactly a hard choice to make.....
No way.... I'd pick the bright lights in the shadow of the Empire State building easily over going to a state with more rows of corn than people "no offense to Husker fans" but WTF is in Nebraska? We have so much advantages over them that outside a bribe WHY GO THERE to showcase yourselves? Practically NO talent or culture there and since Mike Rozier what kind of brand are they? Left the B1G 12 because they had reached a peak a tier under UT and OU and Texas was where they relied on for leftover talent...now they think their gonna just come back and drink out of our well? I don't even want a coach who can't even beat out a state U from the midwest with the population of 1 or 2 NJ large counties. OSU maybe U Mich OK..PSU or even ND but Iowa or Neb? No way...I thought we got past that. I can't believe were back to square 1 after getting into the B1G..we got better talent in the old BE conference...We had PSU sweating...whats up with the lack of pride or loyalty with Jersey kids? 1 decent HC like GS with vision and "Bar the door Katey"

WTF was Wisconsin pre Alvarez? I blame GS for leaving an unfinished job when the talent started to flow...we were on the cusp!! It was popular to come to State U. Then he listens to Belechick!! Now Look?

I agree with you, but it would be nice to start running soon!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Ummm. Most uniformed post in thread.
Kind of ironic that the poster is from Newark bringing this up. Also, Nebraska, especially Lincoln, has some restaurants that make KILLER salads. I'm talking, get me my next ex-wife and let's-go-to-dinner kind of salads.

Now that is sure to stand out to any recruit. That world class vinagarette over a bed of spinach will get em every time.

So far all of our commitments have been three star recruits according to Rivals.

As per ESPN, which has proven to be very accurate in our recent classes, we have 2 mid-level 3 stars, and 2 unranked players so far. Unranked usually means high 2 or low 3. A rather low ranking so far compared to others in our division.

Horrible is a gross overstatement-just like everything you post

Another swing and miss by Flood on a top-NJ recruit. And a brother of a former player? Wow.

Oh so now Nebraska is the garden of eden? Maybe if a recruit enjoys a salad he should go there? Uninformed? Who do you know saying O boy lets gather the family this year and vacation in lush Nebraska? Don't take a genius to figure out Nebraska's not a cultural center. Omaha is where an old friend of mine is from and the family left for NJ a generation and a half ago.I understand a place called "almost heaven" ..WV ..and the hills and hollows..but first time i heard of Nebraska being a "hidden gem" of a state !?! You must be from Nebraska? Who else would think like that in such and empty of people state? Not even Montana who i could see defending due to its lonely beauty? No not uninformed or mean...just keeping it real the way the average Joe see's it.

Newark? Born there like probably many RU fans and raised in Belleville so now we've lowered ourselves to some of these recruits knocking our own state to defend the defenseless? I've lived everywhere from NYC for twenty five yrs to LA and San Diego and I don't think i need to justify my opinion because of my avatar...this site is another reflection of so many local recruits attitudes that its OK to leave this dump for anywhere cause who cares?.. Thats not my opinion I'm proud of my home state.

Oh, NickyNewark51, where do I start?? Let me enlighten you about teenagers and the state of NJ. As a parent of a recent (as in last weekend) PSU grad and a teenager who will graduate high school next year, I can tell you that my kids never cared about being close to the "bright lights" of NYC because their parents worked there, as many living in NJ do, and they went into the city quite often already. And for the record, Lincoln, NE is a great college town (almost looks brand new), and NU has really nice facilities. Iowa actually isn't bad either. These are college towns for college kids, not necessarily where adults want to spend the rest of their lives. You can't compare going on vacation to the Shore with going away to college, kids don't care about that. You're either a serious homer or you need to get out more.

Can we address THIS ^^^^^^^ please? Where is he is 4 star, top 150 recruit? A nice player...yes. Would I like him at RU? Sure...if he's at the top of RU's board at DE, which I do not think he is. There are others I would prefer. (No sour grapes. Honestly, there are others we are doing well with that I prefer to get.) Now, whether we get them or not is another story, but I think we will get a couple of really good DEs.

Thanks for your friendly enlightenment...i assume by your avatar you're from right across the river in Lyndhurst !?! Serious homer is closer...no one got out as much as me lol...I've been anywhere and everywhere but for exposure nothing like NYC environ's for exposure and appreciation to me....Ray Lucas is a kid I admired from Harrison...I knew his father and uncle from the day.I also like and respect Darius Hamilton,Leonte Caroo and many others for mature decisions at such young ages. Its easy to go to an older established program but builders and leaders are what we need here. It seemed the kids didnt mind staying home a few yrs ago when it looked like GS passion and dedication was gaining momentum then we seemed to get Flooded. Don't get me wrong...i love the guy but as a kid growing up in the late fifties, sixties and seventies following RU i love RU more and realize its more the HC than the school and when we get the right coach anything is possible. BTW...I think Iowa is a nice state and school and always thought of us in the Iowa vein or even Wisconsin. Barry Alvarez...good example of a visionary HC. Thanks for your thoughtful input lyndj...much appreciated. A sidenote...us Jersey kids don't appreciate what we've always had "NYC" but kids that come from outside the local area should love it.
