It's a little more complicated in some aspects....
It depends on who departs and what class are they tied to....we've already covered who the suspects are, BUT a junior departing is a little different from a sophomore or freshman departing.
Sanders (if he departs), was part of the 2019 recruiting class count of 3 open ships...it is currently Sanders, Mensah and Doorson that made up the 3 departures/graduates for the 2019 class spots.
If it was Bullock, that ship is part of the 2020 class with Eugene, Thiam and technically Peter Kiss (he could only play 2 years and grad transfer)
If its Mensah, it's also a 2019 ship we are looking at replacing....
The question is do you want to fill 2 ships that are 2 of the 3 available 2019 ships, with 2018 Spring recruits??
To try and simplify it, the recruits for spring 2018 are 4 year players, like Aundre Hyatt....Hyatt, similar to Doucoure would be forecast to be here over the next 4 years, so Hyatt as a 2018 or 2019 recruit, absorbs the same scholarship and fills the same roster for now and down the road.
If it's Mensah and/or Sanders, you are more than likely to want to fill one of them with a 2018....to fill them with TWO 2018 freshmen recruits, means you are truly left with just one scholarship for 2019 (assuming that's Doorson and no other departures...I would think that 2019 kid that has the most mileage is Paul Mulcahy or another wing/combo guard/forward candidate.
A home run scenario would be to get not one but two current 2019 targets, in for 2018....in both scenarios, the players would figure into the long term rebuild and allow a full restart to take place, where you can be selective on what you take with the 2019 ship.
Other options
A) You take a grad transfer (highly unlikely) for a one year rental to keep the 2019 spot/ship open.
B) You take a 2nd JUCO to go with the graduating class of Shaq Carter, Issa Thiam, Peter Kiss, and Eugene as 2020 ships...This could work, but likelihood of finding another 2 year rental that can fit and contribute, would be unlikely.
The Strickland/Diego Willis/Alan Griffin scenario for Sanders is ideal (if Sanders departs as it appears to be a real consideration)
The Aundre Hyatt replacement for 2018 aspect for Mensah or Bullock, would be a grand slam....you would have an immediate contributor plugged in to replace someone that isn't going to factor into your equation short or long term.
There are other names floating that are not yet out there in circles, but best to stick with what we know.
If you landed in November with Strickland or Willis or Griffin or another guard not yet names as one of the guards/wings and Hyatt with a summer/early fall verbal from Mulcahy or Massoud or another wing in 2019, RU would be set up to get something going down the road.
Whoever replaces Mensah, Sanders, Bullock and eventually Doorson, all need to be Top 8 or 9 rotational players, in my opinion.
Hyatt, Mulcahy, Strickland/Willis/Griffin/TBD, would be pretty solid or a great job by the staff.

Where is the stuff keep coming from that people think Doorson will "transfer down" to get some PT if he graduates and/or he's a high risk transfer candidate? Did anyone watch the games against "lesser competition"? He didn't play much because it's not a good game for his skill set. He's not going to "transfer down" to be chasing around smaller guys in non power conference leagues. This is the best league for him for his size and physicality. With a healthy year under his belt, he will have opportunities for the playing time he needs here better than anywhere else. He's never going to be a 25 minute a game guy. The only reason he would leave is if the staff doesn't want him. And from listening to Pikiell talk about him at the Court Club a week ago, he clearly likes him and expects him to be back.Someone posted previously that RU has no shot in signing D. Willis. Is there any truth to it? IMO, Doorson will transfer down to get some PT if he graduates in June or after the summer sessions.

Made it easy as requested.Strickland in 2018
Mulchay, Hyatt and Dixon in 2019
We will finally be going up
I can't be the only one excited for a possible Shaq/Shaq front court lolThe healthy Shaq got, the more he played. He’s a big guy who is tough to move. Pike will want to keep him. There’s also zero chance to replace someone like Shaq at his position with a top notch freshmen or grad transfer. Btw, he’s not going to get more minutes by transferring down because he can’t really play much more. If he’s healthy, he will max out his minutes here.
He asked to keep it simple so I dropped a few names.
Don't think he is near good enough to play in the Big 10.Someone posted previously that RU has no shot in signing D. Willis. Is there any truth to it? IMO, Doorson will transfer down to get some PT if he graduates in June or after the summer sessions.
Holy Mackerel, Batman . This is harder than trigonometry. I'd hate to see you explain your recipe for scrambled eggs. Halfway through I'd probably just throw the eggs out the window. It's a little more complicated in some aspects....

Hearing Rutgers making a push for Stepinac's Alan Griffin...
So if it turns out that there are 2-3 additional departures that produce 2-3 new names on the roster for 2018-2019 - then the season cold start with over half of the team never having officially taken to the court for Rutgers
Shaq Carter
Ron Harper Jr.
Montez Mathis
Peter Kiss
Myles Johnson
Replacement for departure #1
Replacement for departure #2
Replacement for departure #3 ?
seems like this will a dramatically different team - better? hope so ....
