Beyond happy with the win but did we get the best of the whistle? We probably lose this game at Penn State? Let's be objective

How so? Which calls? The one where Paul got called for missing Stevens arm or the one out of bounds they reversed?
Trade Paul's foul for Harper's trip on Stevens. Even.
Perhaps we're just not used to getting treated like a relevant B1G team by the refs even at home?

I always noticed teams that play with confidence seem to get the benefit of the doubt from the zebras and our confidence was on high display on the court tonight.

It’s not unusual for PSU. Didn’t they say Stevens fouled out of the last 4 games or something? He had 4 tonight. Watkins also has major foul trouble all year. The refs could have called even more than they did. This may have been the first big ten game since we joined the conference where we shot more FTs than the other team for once. That said in a 3-4 point loss I understand looking at the calls but we went up 14 before garbage time. Should have been 3rd straight win against PSU and 4 of last 5. At some point accept we are better.

I thought we had more of the questionable ones go our way tonight. I can see how PSU, with how physical they play, will get more called against them. It comes with the turf playing that style of game.

The refs tried to screw us this game. We won in spite. PSU fans that think otherwise are blubbering babies.

Non-calls were in PSU favor.. lots of hitting of shooting hands and arms after the ball was away. Those are fouls when they prevent follow-thru and that happened often.

That's what I thought. The issue right now seems to be centered around Stevens and Watkins. In the 2 games I've seen they've been whistled a combined 17 times.

We win this game regardless of the refs. Penn State got tired and started missing their threes. This was a convincing win by a young Rutgers team. The Big Ten is taking notice, and soon, the country will as well.

We had the advantage but how many times was the white haired ref overruled? Its odd all his calls went against RU! Foul on Mulcahy was pretty bad.

And you know this how? Your general opinion? I can respect you're opinion and respectfully disagree based on my own observations.
Btw I would have T'd up PSU at least ONCE for their wide arm bitching and complaining that they got away with. Not to mention the high elbow to Harper's face that got ruled T1...now we know why the PSU kid wears an elbow pad left arm.

Peds were very physical and they could have been called for double what was called. They are a dirty team.

Penn State should've had a guy ejected! The guy raised his arm up in an unnatural position to elbow Harper in the face and they only gave him a Flagrant 1. To me, that's a pretty favorable call in Penn State's favor 4 minutes into the game.

All I can say, it's about time we got the calls. I thought the officiating was really solid tonight. Yes, we did some calls, but PSU was fouling the $hit out of us especially in the first half. Starting in the second half I was concerned when we got called for the first three fouls. I thought, "Oh boy here we go, the officials are gonna try and even this thing out." But they didn't. PSU continued to foul and got called for them. We on the other hand played solid defense throughout the evening.

Agree on that one, but there were several other calls where I thought we got the benefit of the doubt (the Stevens "charge" against Harper in the first half and the Myles push off against Stevens on his rebound/put-back early in the 2nd half and then the phantom foul on Stevens against Harper driving with about 5 minutes left come to mind) - no way does a game end up 23-13 in fouls when both teams play aggressively, otherwise. My main point is that RU didn't get "hosed" by the refs in this game, like several have said - that's just nonsense.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game where fans of both teams did not think the refs screwed them

Every crew mistake some calls, from what usually show up at the RAC, this crew was great. They really was not that bad tonight.
From where I sat, it looked like every mistake Curry made went against Rutgers. He was overruled a few times, but not all the time. I did think the other refs gave Rutgers a few make-up calls after a Curry error. There was one point where Curry made an error, and one of the other refs shook his head after watching the replay on the scoreboard. He then blew the whistle against PSU on the next possession.

We had couple extra calls for once so when it goes the other way on Sat need to remember

If it is 10 minutes into the game or the 2nd half, that is a Flagrant 2 ejection. No one turns with their elbow at eye level. It was dirty and should have been called. Specifically, it should have been called because it involved the elbow contacting the head with force and purpose. That was a point of emphasis in calling F2's.

Flagrant 2 personal foul. A flagrant 2 personal foul is a personal foul that involves contact with an opponent that is not only excessive, but also severe or extreme while the ball is live. In determining whether a foul has risen to the level of a flagrant 2, officials should consider the following: 1. The severity of the contact; 2. Whether a player is making a legitimate effort to block a shot. Note that a player may still be assessed a flagrant 2 foul on an attempted blocked shot when there are other factors such as hard contact to the head or the defender winding up or emphatically following through with the contact); 3. The potential for injury resulting from the contact (e.g., a blow to the head or a foul committed while the player was in a vulnerable position), and 4 Any contact by the offending player to the groin area of an opponent which is not clearly accidental. RULE 4 / Definitions 47 5. Any foul similar to the foul described in Rule 4-15.2.c.7 in which the contact, or the result of the contact, is not only excessive but also severe or extreme. Note: The above acts represent examples of potential flagrant 2 fouls. Other acts may also qualify, if they meet the criteria of being not only excessive but also severe or extreme.

We might finally be in a place where we don't consistently get screwed because we're expected to be bad. RU keeps winning at home and showing great, aggressive D and we will get more and more calls and might actually become a team that gets some benefit of the doubt.

Lots of people over on BWI bitching that the refs screwed them all night.

Frankly, I couldn't care less. With the number of times we've been screwed, I'll take a game where the whistle favors us.

This might be the first game I've ever been to at the RAC where i didn't think we got screwed by the refs and we benefited from some questionable calls - at least one or 2 including the Harper hook. I remember a Nova game where they pressed physically for an entire half and we may have not had a foul shot. some of the reffing against RU has been mind-blowing.

i laughed when reading that the Cult thinks there is a B1G conspiracy against them - but if there somehow is something like this, I'm 110% all for it. If I was granted 10 wishes, one of them would be that PSU never wins another game in any sport ever.

My wife turned to me before the game at the RAC last night and said, "I don't recognize any of these refs and that's a good thing. Maybe we'll actually get a fair whistle." She was right!
