Rettig's mobility not good enough

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. To me, the two coaching staffs are very similar. Ash is making a big mistake at the QB position.

Agreed, and it's worse, because Laviano has obvious mechanical issues that simply haven't been addressed.

How the heck do you complete 24 passes, and barely crack 150 yards, lol.

He is apparently the 4 th string qb like laviano is first string. Based on a judgement, which we can all evaluate.

All those who spout the 4 th string moniker - do you think theres that much separation between the 4?

If not, why not try another , especially if they have an arm? down 40 plu and cant try it- silly

Hicks clearly better than goodwin

Wasnt hicks 3rd string? Is he a 3 rd stringer? Lets use some rationale - a new staff is making new judgments- doesnt mean they are right. They are doing their best but when you adopt a 4 th string moniker because someone else said so with no more basis, makes one look a little foolish.

to run the 2-3 yard carries- and throw screens and slants?

Seems like a lot of overthinking in whats needed. Perhaps a threat to throw more than 10 yards- and not have d stack the box- might help
Stack the box? You should take the time to count the guys. They never even blitzed that I saw. Secondary played pure coverage the whole game and their d-line collapsed our pocket at will. They played a base defense and imposed their will.

Watch again many times 8 w/ in 5 yards of los. Call it anything you want but no sepration from line from the d.

This thread reminds me of various dodd threads....but primarily it reminds me of leaving RU stadium after a loss and hearing people begging for Jabu to replace Teel.....

Rettig is not the answer, not for LSU, not for 2015 RU and not for 2016 RU, stop star gazing.

That said, are Odin or Allen better than this debacle? I'd like to see them out there in game action.

Incorrect - apparently he is now 5th string QB.

In one of Seargents columns a week or so ago after Laviano was named the starter. He replied to one of the comments after the article. . He mentioned that during the practices they had observed recently, Gio and Allen were taking the reps with the second team... and Dare was now taking the reps with the third team Offense. Mentioned that Rettig did not take any 11 vs 11 reps at all and only participated in QB drills. --- 5th string

Interesting comment about goodwin doing what staff wants and starts over clearly more talented and effective hicks. Make one think about the rettig situation as its hard to say objectively gio is more talented,

Ummmm...... When you have no accuracy on passes over 10 yards in length that's how.

How do you know this? He really has not game action to prove that he can or cannot.

I thought I read that their DL had 3 guys who's combined weight was 1,000 pounds (yikes)

The definition of insanity is thinking Gio or Rettig will be able to move the chains better than Laviano.

this part worried me when I first heard it. Same about another newly "better than ever" QB. Hopefully game day production will win > the guys saying and doing the right things (but then again it doesn't work that way at my employer either LOL)

Laviano was named starter, so I'm willing to give him at least another start.

But it is hard to think that someone on the roster is not better then him. If not Rettig, then Allen or Gio.

I don't think we need the QB to be "better" than Laviano. Whatever you quantify that on. We just need an option that runs the offense better. Our competition knows what Laviano is.

They sure do. And the 4th guy according to that article weighed more than any of the other 3. About 1400 lbs among the four of them.

That is not the point, although people like repeat it over and over again. The question is whether he is the best option.

Rutgers QB play - tough to watch, since before I was born.

352 Interceptions thrown in the 21+ seasons since my freshman year of high school.

He may be the best practice option, and clearly the one who best curries favor with coaches, but no not the best game option.

What bothers me about not giving Rettg one start to see what he's got is that in his limited in game action he's looked good. In the opener last year with the exception of one terrible pass the kid was throwing bee bees into tight windows. Had great pocket presence and didn't have happy feet. And showed at least some mobility as I remember a scrAmble for a TD. Granted it was against Norfolk state but ill tell you that he was under pressure a lot and our receivers did not have much separation but he moved the ball effectvely without Caroo. Give the kid a shot
