RU vs (T)OSU Game Thread

Kiss played one year in that conference and had 18 versus Gonzaga.

WillIams has no mobility now. Williams, Sa, and Doorson are as good as they will get. None of them are going to turn into Keita Bates-Diop

I’ll take marginal improvement. Of course, they aren’t going to be The B1G player of the year.

And shot 27% from three on the season, supposedly his strength. Compare him to the other Quinnipiac transfer from that team (Mikey Dixon to SJU) and it's not even a question as to who got the better player.

All right, well then Harper's offer list doesn't fill me with confidence. Especially to have taken him on in the early signing period. Also not convinced Peter Kiss is going to be much of a contributor based on his stats in the MAAC.
Ok. Why didn't you mention Montez Mathis' offer sheet or Shaq Carter's? I'm not that impressed with Harper's tapes either but at least he has another power 5 offer. Myles Johnson from what we're hearing has a lot of potential.

Sure Pikiell has to recruit better. But we're also suffering from the awful recruiting from Eddie Jordan and the terrible turn over from his classes. Corey is the only recruit from Jordan who has a decent offer list.

People have also written that Kiss has not played basketball that long so hopefully best days are ahead of him. You nor I know how good he will be.

Ill give some love of late to Sa. He really started to rebound and learned to finish at the rim. I think he did more than expected of him this year. He was written off when **** MD moved up.

Sa actually has a nice shot as well. He has played really hard the past couple games.

I think this year and last year are tough to compare. Last year this team stayed healthy pretty much all year. This year it seems like everybody has been injured and we still have the same win total. Pike should have a better roster next year and it's hard to have worse luck with health than what we had this year

I don't really know much at all about Kiss but I did see this training video of him on Youtube.

I'm not really seeing a 3 point shooter here. It would be one thing if he had the athleticism to make up for it but it doesn't seem like he has that either.

I hope he proves me wrong.

I said before this season that improvement this year was first and foremost paramount on some senioritis (and I included Corey in the list because I thought then this would be last year, even though it might not) ....and not only they didnt get senioritis, i thought they collective gave us a lot less this year than less...all for different reasons. Way too inconsistent.

So when the wrap on this season is 14-19 or 14-18, that will be the difference. Seniors (including Corey) with a purpose don’t allow your team to lose to stonyford, Illinois on the road by 40, ...senioritis and leadership cost this team 3-4 wins and a winning season.

I hate pointing fingers to guys who I root for, but that’s just how I saw it

Next year...it’s up to baker and Eugene to lead this team, with or without Corey

This is like the opposite of Trae Young’s training video.

I didn't read this thread, but regarding the game, that 2nd half was as close to Harlem Globetrotters vs. Washington Generals as you can get. I mean OSU was literally running circles around us, getting into the paint at will with incredible ball movement and athleticism. And anytime they got within 10 feet of the rim, the ball just went in the bucket like it was on a string.

It's actually quite depressing to see how far we have to go to become competitive in this league. OSU had 6 or 7 guys who would start over every single one of our starters. And that Jackson kid is what a PG really looks like. He got into the lane with impunity and hit that teardrop all freaking night.

Sigh.

I've tried to explain how many players other schools have in the conference and how much we've closed the gap, with limited flexibility/skill level to pick up a few wins each of the 1st 2 seasons.

It's going to take some recruiting pick ups that are going to need to be safe/solid productive players (Baker/Mathis/Carter/Doucoure/Eugene).....to be mixed with a couple of small steps from Thiam and others.

Next 7-8 months of recruiting really will reshape things for the better....tweak 2018 recruiting and get a couple of pieces for 2019 class.

Once you have the 2019 class in place, it will be that season to figure out where we stand. As much as next year appears to be another step forward, it is going to depend on the next 3 months of recruiting. We definitely don't have enough to get out of the basement for next year, without another tweak or two for 2018-19.

Boston college is another example. Guy won 7 games 2nd year and then 9. 4th year now have winning record.

Jerome Robinson came from basically nowhere to be a really great player. He was not very good as a freshman or sophomore and then boom. Add two shooters in Ky Bowman (recruited) and the guy from BYU (transfer) and there you go.

Pikiell needs to match them in terms of player development and recruiting.
