Rutgers AT BIG10 Woman's Golf Championship - Devine Moves Up and Final Results

The tournament is again being played at the Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh starting tomorrow.

In #15 Northwestern and #24 Ohio State, the B1G has 2 teams in the Top 25 according to the latest Golfstat rankings.

CORRECTION: At #109, Rutgers is ranked 12th out of the 14 teams (Iowa is #110 and Indiana #129). As such, in the first round Rutgers will be paired with Iowa and Indiana.

Just like last week, teams will have 6 players with the 4 best scores each round counting towards the team total. Just like last week and all season for that matter, Rutgers only has 5 players on their roster so they'll be at a disadvantage.

This is RU's 8th B1G tourney. Their best finish to date was last year where they finished 11th.

Things did not go well for the team but it appears other much higher ranked teams struggled a bit too today. After Round 1 the team is 14th after a team +27, 4 strokes behind 13th place Penn State and 8 strokes out of 12th

Leigha Devine was a bright spot. After starting off +3 after 2 holes, she recovered and is currently tied for 10th after shooting a +1, 72. 3 players are currently tied for 1st at -2. No other Rutgers player is higher than 57th. Lucrezia Rossettin shot 78, Maeve Rossi 79, Rikke Nordvik 82, and Nicole Ewing 84.

Just dismiss the HC the day after the season ends.

A last place finish will be the 4th time in 8 years. There's little record of success except on an individual basis.

They only have 5 players so they're playing the B1G Championship 1 short.

I get they don't have facilities but neither do the men and they're in better shape.

They have 4 players coming in. One from Canada, one from Wales, one the sister of a current team member from Italy, and a grad transfer from Germany by way of D2 Indianapolis. It would seem they'vegiven up on recruiting the US or they just can't get one. Not that it matters but they haven't able to keep a number of them here recently.

First off congratulations to Leigha Devine for finishing 5th after shooting a 2 Under 69 which was tied for the 3rd best round of the day out of 83 participants. Devine played her first 9 holes 3 Over but came back to Birdie 5 of her final 9 Holes. She also led the entire field by playing the 3 Par 5's 8 Under for the 3 rounds.

#16 Crystal Wang from Illinois smoked the field, winning the individual title by 12 strokes.

Rutgers shot +16 and +66 for the Championship, finishing last 8 strokes behind Indiana and Penn State. Along with Devine's 69, Rikke Nordvik shot 74, Lucrezia Rossettin 78, Nicole Ewing 79, and Maeve Rossi 80. Other than Devine's 5th Place, the rest of the team finished T65, T71, T76, and T80.

Illinois also took the team title which would appear as something of an upset but when you have someone play like Wang did, it's a huge advantage.
