Football Rutgers Football OL coach Augie Hoffmann out

But but Northern NJ recruiting???

First Gleeson and now Hoffman.
Does this mean we won't have the greatest RU staff ever anymore?
Are we going to actually hire assistants for their coaching accumen and not just the zip code they were born in?

You ask really wierd questions.
Was a very valid question, albeit presented in a sarcastic way. Some people think we have to have NJ coaches to recruit NJ. Others think we should have a staff that can recruit nationally, and not focus too exclusively on NJ.

I think recruiting is recruiting and a great recruiter (eg Fran Brown) recruit anywhere in the country.

For guys that you bring in locally with ties to specific schools… if they don’t bring in top top notch kids almost automatically from the HS/AAU program they came from in the first 18 months then you’re almost guaranteed not to be getting a recruiting edge with that person at all going forward.

I don't even want a staff that can recruit nationally.
I want a staff that can coach.

Maybe it's niave in college football.
But ideally, if the coaches can succeed with the current players, then it's a proof of concept for better recruits. And then better recruits after that.

Less "relationship" and more "look at my results".
That is transferable across any recruit in any region.

This x 100. Augie was mentioned as being a halfway decent recruiter with people outside of North Jersey. But he and Nunz were brought in to get studs from the North Jersey parochials. So far that hasn’t produced anything.

I disagree. All 3 of his questions were wierd.

I agree. Yes, great recruiters can recruit anywhere.

Get a coach from GA, Carolinas, FL etc.
Forget NJ - been hearing about luring NJ recruits since the "walled State of Rutgers" from 20 years ago.
Maybe some overlooked UCF type players want to play B1G
Army got good when they went from 7 southern players to over 25 (and Monken was from GA Southern)

Exactly. The whole “we need Jersey guys” is a very dated view on recruiting.

That would be a novel approach.

Some reminisces of Flood here:

That would be a novel approach.

Hoffmann didn’t even have a position group when he was hired.
It was “Rutgers to hire Hoffmann to coach something. We’ll figure it later. But recruiting!!!”
That’s not exactly encouraging.

But he had a NJ zip code so that’s all that mattered.

Right? Sure, we should try to recruit as locally as possible for efficiency’s sake. But that can be done by any good recruiter. Doesn’t have to be someone with “Jersey connections”.

Having someone on staff who can coordinate with coaches across the tri-state area makes sense. But that person doesn’t have to be a coach, although it can help I suppose.

Certainly explains why the OL didn't block anybody.

This is the coach we want for OL. Doubt we could get him. But couple his recruiting with Marquise Watson on the DL, and we would be vying for the CFP in 4 years. He is currently the DL coach but also the run game coordinator.

Assistant Head Coach/Running Game Coordinator/Defensive Line

Who is surprised that Rutgers is replacing their offensive co-ordinator and their offensive line coach ?
Have your seen our offensive and our offensive line recently ?

And he starts every post with But, but…..lol

My fault
I'm just confused.

Many are so adamant that all these decisions are home runs and locks for success.
For example, hiring Hoffmann without an actual coaching position in mind was great because all these elite Northern NJ recruit that were going to flock here.
Two of this former players were even Top 10 NJ recruits.

But now Hoffmann isn't even being retained?
So now it's not the "greatest staff ever"?
What about all the Northern NJ recruits he's bringing in? (Allegedly - I have no idea because I couldn't care less about recruiting).

Hence my "But but...what about X".
It's my confusion over people being so extremely wrong when they were so dam adamant before. I'll have to stop thinking all these posts are as educated as I have been. That's on me.

Forget OC.
Maybe OL coach is cursed.

Remember OL Coach Blazek was the best coach on staff, elite recruiter and potential Rutgers HC candidate?
That didn't work out too well either.

And with NIL, it’s more important now than ever to be able to coach up and get the most out of the under the radar kids.

Screw the haters and critics. You are right on. Sarcasm translates poorly on message boards. Your posts are a different twist on Message Board Geniuses.

But you may have cracked the code. Our OL recruiting and coaching has sucked mightily for about 10 years. Greg may have fixed the recruiting part. May. We shall see. But coaching and scheme matters.

And you are more entertaining and fun to read than the critics of you.
