Rutgers vs Maryland / Match Thread

this is not going to go well. only a sophomore, Hemida could progress and be a force in two years. he needs 15 pounds of muscle.

Coach G has some big issues at 197 and 285. RU basically needs an 8-10 point lead after Gravina to have a shot at beating a good team.
Lehigh crushed Princeton, RU was very fortunate to win that one

How does Security let Ficker do that crap ? Does he donate that much ?

cant teach size...Gwazdowski or Snyder are rare guys. We need bigger heavyweights, especially in big ten.

Abro - you are a great fan. just try to bone up on the rules and the facts. Princeton wrestled a number of subs against Lehigh. It was't the same team that was at the Battle. With their starting team, the Lehigh match would have been closer. Note that Lehigh has more studs and depth than we have. When reporting the scores be aware that an 8 point win results in 4 team points. Thanks for your reporting. Its great for fans that live far away & don't get BTN.

We pulled Paetzall's RS...might have to pull Mulligan's. Let Correnti eat himself back up to Heavy.

Ficker does a lot to support Maryland wrestling. I've heard he has a very good relationship with the team from the wrestlers on up. he is also annoying as hell and basically has no shame whatsoever.

he's got quite the interesting story. but I agree that his schtick is dumb and interferes with the rest of the fans enjoyment.

Has he ever gotten his ass whipped by another fan?

Flicker might be the single most annoying "fan" in all of collegiate sports. The fact that he's allowed to sit right next to the visitor's bench, and scream and stomp like a 5-year old, the entire match, is stunning. I don't care how much he gives or what his "story" is.

You are right about me not knowing what subs wrestled for Princeton against Lehigh. I do know that an 8 point win results in 4 points in College. And that a 15 point win is a TF for 5 team points and a pin worth 6. I also like the new rule w 4 back points possible.
Although I previously only played football and baseball, I have been following NJ HS wrestling Closely for almost 45 years, but only college wrestling closely since Coach G came in. Sometimes in my haste to post updates I make typos which may appear I'm not up on the scoring, but just trying to get the info out asap. Believe it or not, I'm doing it on 2 or 3 sites simultaneously.
But I appreciate your nice tone and the fact that the updates are helpful for those without BTN.
Looking forward to The Midlands.

When Scott wrestles aggressive I love watching him. He gets cautious when wrestling ranked guys. He just needs to trust his stuff and go at everyone the same. If he does that, I see him as the guy at this weight for Rutgers

I would have been very disapointed in Del if he didn't come up with that major at the end of his match. His opponent today, Michael Beck, was the weakest wrestler Maryland put on the mat today by far.

Del will have to wrestle better than he did today to beat top 20 wrestlers. Tyson Dippery would have mauled Michael Beck.

So,is everyone on board about what I said about Correnti?? The kid looks burnt..period! Either he blew his nutt on finally winning a state title, and that's all he wanted to accomplish...or the weight cut is dragging him down. You saw first hand ladies and gentlemen. You can't get any more blunt then that performance.I could've beat that kid,and I'm half his size.Ash..coaches better fix that real quick,or we are gonna see a 1 and done at the NCAA's or Midlands. He looks like he is going through that Junior funk that Perrotti went through.I think Ash is worn out.Like he needs a break or something..but bad timing, because it's the beginning of the season.McDonald is a below 500 level wrestler in a EWL/EIWA/SoCon conference. That kid does not belong out there in the Big 10.He's too small, nowhere near the strength and ferocity of the Stolls,Kroells, and Snyders of the conference. He's a great kid,but we've heard the great kid speeches from Goody( ie Mason and Camp) and that's not getting it done for the program. We don't have a good upper weight coach.Leo is not doing his job for the big guys.Let me rephrase that..he's doing it by himself, while the middle weight guys have Perrotti,Walsh, and the other guys too wrestle with. It's like we are dynamic up too 184,and then we have pray that we are ahead enough, because we are getting pounded the next two classes.I don't know why they don't keep Messner in there. He is at least a natural 197lb'er.Not some freshman getting his redshirt wasted,by dropping almost 60 lbs from his natural weight. If I where the coaches,I'd be real concerned about Correnti's future and if he wants to do this anymore.By the way,the AD should be less concnetrated on Chris Ash's tail between his legs, possibly anti up for that bullpoopie football program, and invest in program that is top 15 like Wrestling, and write out check,so we can get rid of our crappy facility.Instead, they got those third rate thugs in a new beautiful football center. The antics of this college I wrestled for and went too are mind boggling

Matt Correnti's natural weight is nowhere near 60 lbs more than what Matt weighs now. Matt has never been built like his brother Mauro, who does weigh over 250. Maybe you are confusing the two.

Last March, when Matt wrestled his last match as a high school wrestler, he weighed about 215 lbs.

Yeah Cornett is stuck in between weight classes and it shows. He is no where near 257 lbs which is what your implying by a 60 lb weight cut.... at most like Wng said he was 220 in the off season. Ohh and we are getting new facilities it's been all over the NJ.com but you just seem to like to troll the board.

Matt was walking around campus at 230lbs.some time back.Maybe he wrestled at 215,because he cut weight, but he is naturally walking around heavier than that

Lmao!!!! That his go to jock sniffers! We all don't have his knowledge apparently. Can't we just all get along.
Ha! Passe, you know that I like too playing into this forum, and act like I really care.. right? I like too get these guys going with my controversial, buy truthful posts. This program is starting to suck again,a and apparently people don't see the downward trend.

Is you using "too" instead of "to" a thing I don't know about or do you just have no understanding which is the right version?

You're posts are so illiterate it's tough to read them sometimes. I almost missed you calling the football student-athletes thugs...

Post match story and interview w Coach G:

http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/i...of_lineup_and_respond.html#incart_river_index

"We needed a spark down there," Goodale said. "We needed our roadrunner (Paetzell) to get us going and produce a ton of energy and excitement. That's exactly what we wanted out of Paetzell and that's what we got."

"This is a big dual for us," Goodale said. "For recruiting purposes, for trying to make the national dual meet championships since it's a Big Ten win. It was our first (Big Ten) win of the year so it gives us a little momentum, but we're only as good as our next time out. We were fired up for it, for sure."

"The kid's going to be real good and he had a good showing today in his first Big Ten dual, his first one-hour weigh-in," Goodale said. "He wrestles extremely hard -- and that's kind of what we want."

"Dippery is a little banged up and they've been going back and forth," Goodale said. "There is not much drop-off there. We've still got to figure it out. We have two really, really good kids there."

"He's (Willie Scott) a walk-on, and this is a couple times now that he's come up really, really big for us," Goodale said. "If we lose that match, now we are going to bump everybody up. There's a lot going into that match, and we needed to win that to solidify wrestling straight. That's a huge win for us."

Abro does offer great value on this site and TOS as well with wrestling.

Believe it or not, I did the same on the Iowa site last night for their Iowa st match, lol. It keeps me out of the bars, lol.

From doing this and following RU Wrestling I got to meet fine folks like Bill Garbarini , Dave Bugen and RonDiane. Hey, I'm a fast typist, have good copy/paste skills, and love to follow wrestling.
I read the rankings all the time, follow trackwrestling and flowrestling, go to NJ Regions and States. Of course college (and High School) football my biggest passion. After playing in HS (started 3 years both ways on 2 State Champ teams) I coached a bit on Jr HS level, and then joined the NJSIAA and officiated for about 10 years. But that caused me to miss some RU home games so eventually gave that up.

Going to RU wrestling matches last few years have been great, as well as going to MSG last year for the Nationals. That was terrific

As much as I want to see us become a truly elite wrestling school, go F yourself on insulting our football program. You wouldn't have the cajones to say that to our incoming recruits like Mike Tverdov or Jon Lewis or Micah Clark.

No kidding - nice post. I respect and thank all athletes that have competed for RU but it does not provide a life long license to be rude and disrespectful to other programs that might not be successful right now. And we all now that as fun and great wrestling is, it is not paying any bills. There are only two programs that have the potential to do that and we have to right those ships now.

Was he the same prick at the RAC last yr in the bleachers behind the basket? I wanted to kick his ass last yr.
There was a complete dick two years ago when we played Maryland toward the end of the season--I mean, EVERYONE remembers this guy who was sitting anywhere in the vicinity. He was sitting in the second or third row directly behind the Rutgers bench, and was so frickin loud that the players could barely hear Eddie (not that it mattered). Not sure how he got those seats for that game (RU ticket-holder StubHubbing them, I guess), but it was the one game where my buddy wanted to fight someone, that's how obnoxious the doosh was. I'm pretty sure that was the last straw for the marketing department, as they made some phone calls to season-ticket holders who sit behind the bench asking them/us to never sell our tickets to opposing fan bases. They were preaching to the choir with me, as those seats are what I call Primary Responsibility Seats.
