Rutgers vs Minnesota / Game Thread

Now that's a touch foul on Doorson. What did he grace him with a pinky finger?

The law of averages never seems to work here in the twilight zone known as Rutgers.
I don't even think it's the law of averages since that's a fallacy anyway, but we are better shooters than 56% so I think we'll pick it up.

Can't see how we will miss Gettys next year except for his 7 feet. I like the guy, but can he just grab a rebound. Boxes out and can't get to the ball, only to hit it with his fingertips. Should have had an easy dunk, but got blocked by 3 guys underneath. Of course our other bigs do the same thing and usually don't get fouled.

Why was Freeman jogging up court on a lose ball? Was he looking for another dunk?

he's been given space countless times at the top of the key this year where he's either had an open deep 2 or drives to the lane. Sure he passes it most of the time. But the way he runs the floor? I don't think you understand the balance it takes when you're not only that tall but have that giant sized frame period. Very difficult and he hustles all the time.

Please stop - even his parents wouldn't say he's agile. Yes, he works hard and he has some skill, but c'mon, he can barely jump, he's slow, and he's not quick to the ball if there's a rebound to to be had that he needs to move for.

have to say we have been EXTREMELY unlucky when it comes to caroms and long rebounds off the rim. They are all going to UM and it isn't lack of effort on our part.

OMG a drive and dish for 3!!! a rarity
This is what we are missing, a guy who can knock down outside shots. Even on the next play when Freeman drove baseline and kicked it to Thiam, Thiam wasn't in position to shoot so he kicked it over to Mike, who wasn't in position to shoot. If Thiam would get his feet set, and not bring the ball low after he catches it, he'd get his shot off more easily and get more comfortable shooting.

We're giving them way too many second chances. Some of it is the luck of the bounce but they also seem to be hustling more and more athletic.

Need to play better - just not playing that well today. Would be nice if we could cut their lead to a more manageable 4-5 at the half...

They're pushing off with their forearm on every offensive move, and I haven't seen it called even once. Very obvious..

Should be trying to get the 10th foul on Minny instead of shooting 3's. 3 1/2 minutes since they had 9 fouls. Lost somewhat of an advantage even with poor FT shooting. Plus another cold spell and empty trips. Minn big guys definitely better than our guys especially with mobility.

Anytime we breathe on them we get called. I don't think Mike made contact there and gets a foul called on him. Fvck.

Our defense is horrendous, which is rare for us. They are getting playground-easy buckets.

Minnesota came to play..they are not taking Rutgers lightly like alot of schools have done...only hope is Pike makes big time adjustments after halftime

It was a foul but my issue is the ref doesn't call a foul on 0 who has Mike arm locked as Mike is trying to get around him. Call the foul and there's no bucket period.

Can someone explain what happened on the Gettys and 1 charge? You can get called for a charge but bucket and foul still count?

Gettys has gotta be exhausted. Nothing from Doorson or Diallo, not even minutes. Thiam totlly lost on D. Laurent D terrible. Nigel? MOVE A LITTLE BIT!

And stop complaining about the fouls. I didn't see one that wasn't justified. You sound as though we'd be up by 12 if not for the refs. If we just stopped the shot instead of pussyfooting around and letting them have both the shot and the foul we'd be a lot closer.

Minny front line too athletic to be played man to man...it's tougher to rebound when you play zone but might have to mix in zone to slow their frontcourt down.

Tall, fast, athletic guards kill us. Minnesota has them. We need to recruit tall guards.
