Rutgers Women’s Soccer Hosts No. 14 Northwestern and Illinois

Did not see it but sounds like we totally outplayed them and deserved to win. Great job girls. An RU team that makes us proud!

Way to go! 4 more regular season games and in first!!!! Get that regular season title and top seed!!!!!!!!!

Looks like LaPlant may be closer to shoulder recovery, to me she was the difference maker in this one, had an significant impact each time she stepped on the field. Hopefully she and Amirah can recreate that chemistry at the right time heading down the wire. I agree with rudad02, offensively we are much stronger with LaPlant on the field and Nicole in the mid, the shin issue won't go away, so minutes will continue to be limited, hopefully the minutes are used wisely. Good win! That closing play couldn't have been drawn up nicer, very good touch by LaPlant, tremendous awareness, put the ball on Nekka's big toe, nice touch in, good cross with good speed and a nice finish by Amirah.

How could it not be?
If that wasn’t an assist, nothing is.

From NCAA rule book.
SECTION 5—ASSISTS Article 1. An assist is awarded for a pass leading directly to a goal. Not more than two assists may be credited on any one scoring play. Each assist shall count one point in the player’s statistical record. (1) If a scoring play consists of two consecutive passes without a defender gaining control of the ball, two assists may be awarded, provided the second player does not have to elude a defender to make the final pass. Both passes must have a direct influence on the outcome of a goal scored. If the second player needs to elude a defender before passing to the goal-scorer, credit only that assist.

A.R. 6. Adams passes the ball to Aaron, who dribbles past Brown. Aaron’s forward movement is being contested by Brown before Aaron passes the ball to Abell, who heads the ball into the net. RULING: Only Aaron is awarded an assist. Since Aaron had to free himself from the defender to get the ball to Abell, only one assist is given even though the defender never touched the ball.

When does B1G announce their weekly awards? I can't see how Amirah Ali doesn't get Offensive Player of the Week! And maybe even national recognition. So clutch!

Expecting RU to have play #11 and #14 in top B1G WSOCCER plays of the week ... opponents will have #6 and #8 for some saves

I thought so too, but after reading the rule and example it is pretty clear she had to dribble past a contesting defender. So no second assist.
Don"t see that the defender had a chance. Nneka was ahead of the defender & had the angle when she received the ball.

I agree with rudad02, I know the rule, that's why I was surprised, LaPlants pass was such that Nneka was already past the defender and just had to control the ball to complete the 2nd pass, the defender never had the opportunity to challenge Nneka. At the same time it's subjective. Was still a great ball that set up the goal. Keep the momentum RU!!!
