These 2 guys are supposed to be our leaders. They gave us almost nothing today. Last year Corey scored 25 at PSU. What happened today? I just cannot see him ever making it in the NBA. He is way too inconsistent. Freeman has to stop with the tilt a whirl spin moves and play team ball. Somehow Pike has to have a team of 13 scholarship players that are all on board for next season. We seem to have a decent chemistry but we need 13 guys that all contribute something to the team. I think a few guys must be replaced for the good of the unit. I like Omoruyi, Thiam, Baker, Doucoure. Add to them Kiss, Johnson, Harper, Carter and Mathis bringing us to 9 guys. We lose Sa, Williams and Freeman. Who knows if Sanders returns or if Doorson, Mensah or Bullock will be here but the product is awful offensively at this time. Something has to give.

Sander may not be ready for the NBA, but he could be able to find a spot on a European team.

Freeman is such a negative. Can’t wait for Shaq Carter to get here.
It is unbelievable the guy is a nightly double double guy and people think he isn’t the problem. He is forced to play bigger than he is on both ends. If we had anyone that could shoot the freaking ball we would view him like we did Rashod Kent. The hate for him is a total disgrace.

Except that he plays completely out of control, which is the opposite of what pikiell wants from his players.

Sanders, meanwhile, should be embarrassed that he even mentions the NBA with a garbage performance like this.

Double double is a meaningless stat.....it just means you are on the court enough to score and get rebounds.

There are countless websites that measure productivity and things like usage percentage and more common sense stats on how fast does the ball leave the players hands, once he receives it?? Does the ball "stop", or does it move quickly.....

Does the player have the ability to cut to the basket and score, does he have the ability to score without stopping the ball and going one on one??

I'm not saying he's a bad player, but most players playing 28 + minutes in a B1G game are capable of a double double.....

Fans need to become smarter and stop looking at stats...."he averaged 12 and 10"....the question is, where does Freeman fit in with the rest of the B1G conference?? Is he a top half of the league starter....mid level starter or bottom 1/3rd of the league starter...??? Does he play and earn minutes on most B1G front lines that he plays against??

That does make the job more difficult because he's undersized, but I would not say averaging a double-double has any relevance.

Understanding his limitations versus trashing him because he has to play due to we lack of a better option are two totally different things. I get his numbers are inflated and he plays out of control. I don’t need to be more intelligent, others need to be less “big league” a-holes.

Agree. Averaging 11.3 points... but on how many shots? The only other scholarship players on the team averaging less than a point per shot are Doucoure, Sanders, Bullock, and Mensah. He's averaging 1.05 pts/shot - by comparison, Omoruyi is averaging 1.23 pts/shot.

Freeman needs to try to force less, and try to find the open man more when he draws the double - and Omoruyi needs to shoot more.

Edit: Misread the line for points per shot. It's *Sanders* that is getting just 0.97 points per shot, ahead of just Bullock and Mensah.

Many of us have been saying Omoyuri needs to be more of a focus for a couple of weeks now.

I hope the future is keyed in on. I'll add I want Baker bringing up the ball 80% of the time.

Had to edit the above post... I had misread the line for points per shot. It's *Sanders* that is getting just 0.97 points per shot, ahead of just Bullock and Mensah.

Points per shot from our bigs: Doorson (1.91), Omoruyi (1.23), Sa (1.17), Freeman (1.05), Doucoure (1.03)
Points per shot from our guards: Williams (1.16), Thiam (1.15), Baker (1.07), Sanders (0.97), Mensah (0.63), Bullock (0.48)

Freeman gets double doubles. His basketball IQ. Last year versus PSU we are up 4 with like 40 seconds to go and threw bounce pass to Laurent that had no chance and was intercepted. Hold the ball and let them foul you. Basketball IQ is not good. Forcing up shots and yes he is undersized, just play smarter.

In each of the past 2 years, Corey has waited until almost the last day a college player can declare for the NBA draft before announcing he would return to Rutgers.

I have no clue why he thinks he can make it in the NBA - or even in any of the European leagues for that matter - but it seems clear he can't wait to leave Rutgers and go pro.

I think the chances he returns to Rutgers after this season is near zero.

I’d rather a more mature Sanders return. If he goes, so be it.

Hopefully, he won’t drag it out this time. I suspect that the coaching staff panicked and it cost us a scholarship this past season.

I agree SWAIN

we have some of the worst informed fans on the planet

Without Freeman we would have 5 more losses easily

And while we are at it Baker had ONE bucket
Sanders not even one

and numbnuts are complaining about a guy who had
6pts 8 REBS, 1asst, 2 steals & a block...he had the best numbers of the night
meanwhile our 7 footer got a steaming 4 rebs

After his stinker yesterday I would think we could see the value of his scoring more than ever...we could certainly use him back next year, even at his current level. Relying on Kiss or Shaq to pick up his scoring DeShawn’s offensive output ain’t happening.

And does that fact that Shaq D is leading among scoring efficiency demonstrate how that stat is more BS than Freeman’s double doubles?

Sorry if some of you can’t comprehend what basketball IQ is, but Freeman sorely lacks it.

He does not play within the team concept of moving the ball
I can comprehend it fine there genius. I’m saying that despite his low BBall IQ he is our best option, so why trash him and look forward to his departure? Do you comprehend that?

If he didn’t force shots up, he’d be the crowd favorite.

6 points on 28.6% shooting... with only one shot not in the paint. Add to that 3 TOs (which led to 6 points: 2 dunks and a made jumper) and 3 PFs (Nits went 3/5 from the line on those).

Btw, our 7 footer got 0 rebounds in 6 min. Our 6-9 center (Sa) got 7 points (2/5, 40%) and 4 boards in 18 min.

Freeman plays out of control and anytime he touches the ball he goes up with it. Has no handle and never looks for his teammates on the fast break or when he has the ball down in the post.

If you can't see that then you are blind

am I allowed to point out that missed jam that missed the entire rim and went out of bounds?

I'm not a Freeman hater but his inconsistent play and effort is frustrating. He COULD be a positive difference maker with Mike out...but apparently instead of Sanders and Freeman stepping up to offset Mike's being out it is Sa and EO doing it. Shame.

I think he did a better job of passing it back last two games. What I can't stand is that everytime he gets it...the whole flow stops because he holds it for so long before doing anything. Give him credit for the and one's last few games. He's hitting foul shouts now too.

and let me add has re-focused on rebounds too on the defensive end.

Freeman and Sanders have their warts, but they are 2 of about 4 guys on this roster that actually belong in the Big 10. If Pikiell is able to turn this thing around, the contributions of those two (specifically Freeman's shot against Illinois, Sanders game against SHU) will be looked on in a much better light.

The team lacks scoring threats and yet some fans want to pick and choose as to what player is worse. The answer is a collective all of them because there is no positive consistency game to game from any player. The team is having a hard time even scoring 55 points against B1G opponents.

Without Freeman we'd have five more losses..but without Freeman and with Shaq Carter I'm not convinced that'd be the case, or that the end result would even be worse.

Had a dream last night that we were down 2 to Seton Hall at the RAC, and Freeman got fouled in the act of shooting with no time left.

He was standing at the line all alone, and missed the 1st shot...

I don’t think that’s what Wenzel had in mind when he said, “Dream big dreams.”
