Sanders Entering Draft

Far from it. But apparently me and like 5% of the fan base were the only ones who could see the train wreck coming. I'm rooting for Pikell but it's over already. Just hope Freeman or Laurent don't jump too.

the train wreck was 3 years under Jordan, the ignorance you are showing that Sanders and Jordan recruits are our salvation is laughable. Mike Rice was at least flirting with 500 his first year where he was left with basically nothing. No he didnt turn things around but Pikell is a coach without the Rice demeanor which makes him the best hire since Waters. That puts us in the game, you can worry about next year like it matter, I could give a dump if we win 9 games because its about the future. There was no future under Eddie

there is a better chance of birds flying out of my ass than corey actually entering this draft

Oh yeah? What would I learn from said sports section?

From the beginning he stated he was looking at the NBA after two years. Had a nice season, still needs plenty of work on both ends. Has a high ceiling, should work to reach it. If he stays everyone should be happy, if he were to leave than no one should take issue with it.

He was willing to take a gamble on a broken program, yet you want to constantly state how he's a broken person. Kids will be kids, they have the right to change their minds...especially when it pertains to their own future.

Worst thing for recruiting is whiney fans.

You sure about that?

I dont like to hear this that he is unhappy about being in the weight room

Whatever.. He's here for one more year at most and he won't see the postseason here. We've got to get kids who want to be here. It's his choice.

Coburn, Beatty Miller and J. Mitchell helped Rice flirt with that 500 add in Bruita , it was close to a 500 team
Heck Freddie was 15-17 the year before, but Rice did do a pretty good job his first year and never got over 500 as the RU HC.
He also left Jordan little to work with, but that's not why Eddie failed.

Jordan left Pikiell some good players, but in my opinion, not the depth needed to succeed in the B1G

Not only is depth lacking but the players Jordan left have a lot of hard work and catching up to do (skills and conditioning) to be competitive.

Yeah I am, I wouldn't say it if I wasn't.

You can tell me what you dislike about his game and the areas where you feel he's maxed out in if you feel differently.

When I think "high ceiling", I am referring to Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, Steph Curry, Mike Conley, etc. lead guards.

So without even dissecting his game and athleticism, unless you have a different definition of high ceiling, I am somewhat baffled at that label.

High ceiling for a college player is the ability to get into the lottery portion of the draft. High ceiling for a young NBA player would be becoming one of those players you listed, minus Conley.

For example, Kyrie Irving will be lucky if his ceiling is somewhere near Curry and Paul.

Will Buddy Hield or Kris Dunn be as good as Westbrook or Curry? Do you see why this makes zero sense?

I understand the cupboard has been bare for a while here but there are a lot of players better than Sanders this year who will not be drafted. He needs to do a lot to get drafted next year...like be on a team that wins more than 6 games. Nobody is drafting a freaking floor manager of an abysmal team who is raw when it comes to playing within a system.

True, no half decent recruit should come to RU right now based on the same logic. Same thing goes for football.

From the NJ.com article -

"If Sanders is invited to the combine, he will be allowed to work out with Rutgers coaches from the time he receives his invitation until he withdraws from the draft. Workouts will be kept to the NCAA-permitted, in-season limit of four hours a day for up to 20 hours per week."

If this is the case then every player eligible to declare should do so immediately in hopes of an invite. A couple week boot camp of what the new staff is all about could work wonders. While I am sure that every player won't be invited, you can be every one of Coach Calipari's players will.

Bac I am really not trying to pick a fight here but I can remember you saying the exact same thing about Jordan when he was hired. You were predicting 9 years in Year 1 under him and that it was a 7 year rebuild to get to the tournament.

People can laugh and mock me all they want, please, show me...who will score points next year with Corey gone? Who can take it to the tin and then kick it out to a guy open for 3? If we have that guy, please point him out because I don't see him.

I said 7 years under Jordan because thats how long it would take a guy like that....NEVER wanted him hired..wrong choice right from the beginning. No one should accept 7 years to rebuild

Corey gone? Because like dozens and dozens of other college players, largely more advanced than he is, he's checking out his NBA chances? Do you honestly think NBA teams will say, you are certain to be drafted, just not in the lottery? Or we will sign you for our D League team?? Not the CS I saw last season. He will hear, well, if you don't want to go back to school and improve, you can try out in Cyprus or Turkey, but if you have any dreams about the NBA. this is what you really have to work on. Seriously, people--is he anywheres near the player Douby was? Will he ever be?? And Quincy's NBA career was woefully short. You can find gunners on every court in NYC, but guys with the skill set to play in the NBA?? If CS is not interested in studying just enough to stay eligible, he can try to get a job in a league overseas--competition is strong among guards. They are a dime a hundred.

I don't know about this one. Sounds like a story change, Bac.
All I can say is bac was one of the ones that said it would take 7 years .
As for supporting or against Jordan's hire I can't remember how he stood .
If asked before reading he was against hiring Eddie, I would have said bac supported hiring Jordan and would have been mistaken according to what he claimed in his reply to RUskoolie.

Would love to see the posts made right after Jordan was hired to see who was a supporter and who wasn't.
I admit I was a supporter, but questioned if 7 years wasn't far to many years to make RU MBB into a winner.
Later I was convinced it would and watched some of those who convinced me start the Eddie must go movement in Jordan's second year.

This is simply our guesswork on whether Sanders will be here next year and using a consistent body of past behavior to predict future behavior. Sure, it could be wrong, and he could be back. But, money on the line, that's not how I'd bet.

On a different note, I'd be advising this kid differently. Come 10 years from now, he'll probably be wishing he had an RU degree. He's a very good player, but I'm not sure about an NBA career and, while Europe could be an option, I don't think you get "I don't have to work anymore after I retire from basketball" money there. So when he does retire from basketball, a degree will matter. And, sure, he can say that he'll get the degree later. But how often does that then actually happen--and it won't be free.

I'm concerned that we'll all be reading a "Whatever happened to Corey Sanders" article in 10 years.

listen after the Rice debacle, I wasnt exactly going to go around with post after post talking about Eddie wasnt the right guy...do you really think that was good for the board at that point. Can you imagine the shoutdowns. Yes I didnt think it was the right hire but when you are coming off that scandal you shut up and support. Pretty much EVERYONE did and there were some I know didnt like the hire. By early in the first season my fears were confirmed in many ways.

what this has to do with the subject at hand is strange..why is whether someone supported the hire even being brought up here and Im not sure why I am even being questioned on it.

Not sure if this has been said......Is the Hobbs hire and Sanders testing waters connected? Is this a reaction to Vetrone possibly not coming back?

Possible but unlikely.

Most likely it's what everyone in the game has been saying for months now. Why wouldn't you throw your name in and get a free eval? There's no downside.

Skoolie is rallying around two players that served suspensions as to why Pikiell will fail...talked about missing the point of changing coaches

he's upset because we didn't keep a coach who couldn't keep his two best players in line and had some of the worst losses in RU history under his belt.

Eddie is a Rutgers legend but I've never cared less about watching or not watching the games under him. The play was so bad and hard to watch that I got no enjoyment out of it. Had to make a change considering we were getting worse 3 straight years.

Hopefully he goes to the Combine and sees exactly how far behind he is relative to guys in his situation and then he comes back with an understanding of the work needed to catch up.

Doesn't he need to be invited 1st?

If Corey had someone really looking out for him they'd tell him the off court stuff/rumors could be as important as what he can do on the basketball court to a potential NBA team. Unless you have ridiculous talent combined with size you aren't going to be able to escape people asking whether a kid is worth it or not. I think we saw some of that in his college recruitment.

I think Corey would have done this regardless of who was coaching next season. It will likely be an eye opener for him to see what it takes to be an NBA player and hopefully spurs him on to work even harder this off season to become that level of player.

Of course Sanders is enrolled, he played during the spring semester. The question is whether he made it back to campus after spring break. I have heard no mention of him making it back to campus. Have you heard otherwise?
He might be taking online courses .

It's been reported that he's working out with the rest of the team, one poster saw him shooting in the RAC by himself...so I'm going to assume he's still taking classes.

Job 1 for new coach is to find out exactly where his guys stand academically.

New Right, Bac... because nobody in the NBA works out and has rock hard bodies. Corey needs to realize he isn't ready physically or emotionally for the NBA
