Screw it, just build a new arena

Place is gonna be empty soon there will be no ground swell for any significant changes to arena.

We were just talking about expanding the RAC a year ago.. Then our AD got preoccupied with the soccer coach and the basketball team became a massive bust. It would be so Rutgers to proceed with it and raise ticket prices…lol

Gymnastics. If it were the soccer coach - either one - we'd be having a very different conversation lol!

The RAC magic has been long gone. We might as well be comfortable watching future games.

100% disagree.

We suck and are playing the worse basketball maybe in the Pikiell era.

Field a decent team, or a team that at least shows some heart and competitiveness and the RAC will instantly become alive again.

'22-'23 0-3 to finish the season B1G play
'23-'24 5-5 in B1G play
'24-'25 1-2 in B1G play to start season

....that's 6-10 at home the last 16 B1G home games since the last month of '22-'23 and it has ZERO to do with THE RAC.

So much wrong with this thread. Build a cavern arena and end up like Penn State, zero atmosphere and a long forgotten program. Even in our worst years over 30 NCAA misses at least we got some fun upsets thanks to the RAC. The team cannot generate 2 consecutive stops, that’s why the RAC was quiet. It’s the players, arena has nothing to do with it

People attacking/wanting to get rid of the RAC is crazy. It is the best and most consistent thing about this program. Winning/Being competitive makes RAC Magic happen, and that part has been failing miserably lately. Looking at the past 30 year study PLUS chances of our near future success in the next few years in no way equals a 12K-15K arena. Bottom line you NEED to keep some of the cool, unique and very definable things about a program/university. We should have found a way to keep the grease trucks, just as we should find a way to keep this grease truck of an arena called The RAC - it is awesome, has character and needs to stay!

The RAC is a top 10 home court advantage in college basketball when our team plays defense.

Stop being emotional.

Hard pass on spending 9 figures on a big arena so we can have tarps on the upper decks like Seton Hall.

Add bathrooms, put seats where 118 and the offices are and leave the rest alone for the most part. Thats all we need to do.

The majority, yup
Love you nuts, but nobody gives a shit about it when it’s working out, its only a talking point when things aren’t going as planned

We don’t get Ace or Dylan without it

And if we actually had a competent coaching staff (I’ve been very supportive of Pike, but this year is completely unacceptable on every imaginable metric ) and supporting cast to make a deep run into the NCAA, literally nobody would care about NIL

All good man, and I get it, but MOST people I speak can not stand NIL/portal AS they are currently setup. The original intent of NIL has been blown up in smoke as this is nothing whatsoever but "pay-for-play." I don't know anybody who had/has any issue with "NIL" itself, as intented.

*After losing back to back games at the RAC by double digits!!*

RU has the 16th-highest rated home court advantage in college basketball per KenPom, which only includes the last 60 home/road games. Also, four of the teams ahead of us sit at >4,500 feet above sea level.

Even in the era people have pointed to as the death of the RAC, it’s a quantifiable and significant advantage.

“The RAC Magic is dead” … no .. the RAC Magic makes up for 5-7 points when we are playing defense to be able will the team to get 2-3 consecutive defense stops and take the lead. It’s NOT magical enough to overcome 12-16 point second half droughts. This years team stinks get over it

RAC Magic is currently sicker than Dylan Harper and it’s due to play on the court AND the ridiculous crowd killing crap being pumped out of the speakers. Our band and student section lead to organic crowd participation … everyone sits on their hands when the other shiit is blaring. I really hope the new AD hears about this and sends the psu guy packing.

Agreee except only thing I’d add is building a large front lobby that’s at least 3x the size of the current walkway. This will ease congestion in the narrow side walkways too.
Bathrooms needed on other end of the arena and everything is good enough.
Bonus is make women’s bathroom larger by the entrance.
