Is awesome. Meanwhile NYC (NJ) gets the most uninspiring POS .

Why is this only "slight" OT? Be willing to put serious money down that the B1G CG will be there shortly and will be rotated with LucasOil stadium

Fantastic. Just amazing how far we have come in terms of engineering, architecture, and materials...

Wait until you see the Falcons stadium next year. Probably going to be the best stadium in all of the NFL

I would love to see the B1G host their football championship there.

I agree that in the same world that this Vikings Stadium, Jerrys World, Century Link Field, The Linc, Arizona Cardinals Stadium, and all of the other stadiums, the best the Giants and Jets could come up with was that toilet bowl of a stadium. Hell there was NOTHING wrong with Giants Stadium and they couldve rehabbed that stadium the same way Lambeau Field, Arrowhead Stadium and even Stanford Stadium.

That Vikings stadium does look great.

That's the issue of building a stadium with two teams who might have differing views on what they want. Ultimately making so many compromises it ended up to be the concrete monument of blah.

What's the problem?

Very sharp. Drove by it 45 minutes ago. Going to the Vikings giants game in Monday Night in a few weeks.

Call me old fashioned, but I just believe football needs to be played outside. Baseball too. I know, Minnesota gets cold, but that's life.

The place looks pretty on TV though.

That's what kills me - they really could have spent a lot less, revamped Giants Stadium, which had an iconic look, and kept it instead of building that ugly monstrosity.

Only been to the new meadowlands (forgot what its even called now) but i didn't see anything wrong with it other than it was totally overpriced due to the unions.

Football should be played outdoors. The indoor stadium lead to more offense, like the gimmick Spread Offense, and high scoring. Lets hope Green Bay and Chicago, NY and Philly, Baltimore, New England, Wash DC, etc.. never get indoor stadiums.

I agree it's an uninspiring box, but I think you're both being unrealistic on this point.

The new stadium has so much more square footage and revenue streams that it's a no-brainer why it's a better choice for the two clubs. The fact the Jets are partners on it is what made the difference.

I can't imagine any full scale revamping that would be more feasible than new construction. Keep in mind the newest upgrades at Miami's Dolphins stadium (canopies over the crowd) cost over a billion.....

It wasn't really iconic, it's just all we were accustomed to.

The Giants not wanting to split the cost of a retractable roof "to not lose their cold weather advantage" might have been a poor choice, because it is the only thing keeping that facility from getting the Final Four and other events.

MetLife has millions of NJ taxpayer money.
Not a cent from NY State.

For what it's worth, NJ now has both teams running their operations out of NJ (which generally means more millionaire athletes living nearby). I don't know how the taxation works though. We can bet they got a great deal.....virtually every major sports team has gotten a great deal in the past 15 years alone.

anybody see Adrian Peterson get helped off the field? they walked him through a food court with fans right next to him. looked awkward. silly setup.

I didn't see that, but it sounds similar to the cowboys tunnel entrance that is flanked by VIP lounges. Maximum revenue stream!!!

So then why does the B1G, the quintessential cold weather conference, play their CG indoors only?

All depends on how Minny swings with certain political issues of the day.

Their biggest complaint against building the roof is that they did not want to be dictated to by the NFL as to when to use the roof.

Why do I have the feeling the Giants Stadium would still be around if the Jets got their stadium on Manhattan West Side?

People think it was the Jets that made it look like that? The Jets wanted to build one of these great new stadiums. Look at the proposed Westside stadium. The Giants wanted the plain building

since it debuted in 2010-2011 I am guessing we have 20-25 years left on Met Life Stadium. In 2036 I would guess just about all the teams (except GB and Chi) will have new stadiums. I also guess at least 16 NFL teams will have domes or retractable roofs. Of the 32 teams in the NFL you will probably have 16 domes and another 6 to 7 open air teams from warm environments where a dome is not needed (ie. San Diego or Jacksonville).

I count 7 current warm weather teams that may not need a dome and 9 dome teams.

let's see what Dan Snyder and Robert Kraft do when they try for new stadiums as that may help the Jets / Giants decide. And... the Bills probably need a roof or depending on rumors may move to Toronto where there is a roof.

My guess is Chicago, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland will try to avoid domes if they get new stadiums.

Domes are better for the fans. Tonight the Mets play the Braves. My guess is they will find a way to play it in this ugly weather. Or if they do cancel it may not happen till like 5 pm when people are on their way to the game.

For a team like Rutgers the weather does affect attendance. We are not a top of the B10 team and have many casual fans. When you have a really hot game (Howard) and rainy games then you risk being only 75-85% full. Even if tickets are sold but fans stay home you lose concessions revenue. If the weather we have today occurred this past Saturday then the New Mexico game would have been a ghost town.

NFL teams without domes I think may get them in the future. If these teams get some of the others may jump on the bandwangon too:
Bills
Bengals
Redskins
Patriots
one of the 3 Florida teams (maybe Miami or Tampa with multiple tenants in the building)
Raiders (esp if they move to Vegas)
Ravens (depending on what Washington and Philly does)

It's a little strange seeing the Wilf's in their "home" stadium since they live in Livingston. My kids played sports with Mark's kids. Seem like nice people though.

I always thought that was a stupid issue for both sides of argument .... I can't see why the NFL should butt their nose into it, and why it would be so important to the Giants/Jets

As has been discussed, NCAA final fours, multiple Super Bowls, winter concerts, championships for other events, all tossed out the window....

It was only the Giants and the Mara family that objected to that. And the NFL does butt its collective nose into this: I believe they require a roof to be closed if the temperature goes below a certain level.

Yep, they definitely lost out on a lot of revenue.
