Slight OT: Vikings new stadium

The west side stadium was killed by the Dolans because they said a housing complex was more important there. At least that was the public comment.

Why not sue the Dolans now for not investing those billions into the rail yard after they killed the stadium project?

Met Life stadium - is soul-less with no character. Saw the Giants in tampa last year - stadium -though old was energetic - better atmosphere
Metlife and Yankees Stadium were very uninspired efforts.

I wish the people that designed Citifield had done Metlife. Citifield is a work of art.

It was only the Giants and the Mara family that objected to that. And the NFL does butt its collective nose into this: I believe they require a roof to be closed if the temperature goes below a certain level.

Yep, they definitely lost out on a lot of revenue.

so, it is ok to have a game at Green Bay, temps 10 degrees below zero, but if you have a roof we have to tell you
when to close it if it gets cold.

I still think they are both nuts.

unimaginative design goes back to the original Meadowlands racetrack...this too looked like an erector set, when built

I always enjoyed going to Monmouth park seemed to be so much nicer as you walk up to the building

I completely agree. And in looking this up just a bit, I see the NFL has been tinkering with the rules the last couple of years.

I still can't get over the palace that Jerry Jones built for less money than the prison-inspired stadium we have up here. I mean, they have video boards which extend from the 20 yard line to the 20 yard line. That's nuts!

Sadly Yankee not much better with same Industrial feel.

The NY/NJ area facilities do not exhibit character other than places that want to part you from your money efficiently!

I do not feel that awe experience that I felt walking into the old Giants, Shea or Yankee stadiums.

since it debuted in 2010-2011 I am guessing we have 20-25 years left on Met Life Stadium. In 2036 I would guess just about all the teams (except GB and Chi) will have new stadiums. I also guess at least 16 NFL teams will have domes or retractable roofs. Of the 32 teams in the NFL you will probably have 16 domes and another 6 to 7 open air teams from warm environments where a dome is not needed (ie. San Diego or Jacksonville).)

My bigger concern is football will have been essentially outlawed by 2032............

I am a lifelong Mets fan born in Queens, but honestly Shea was a complete sh!thole and didn't have any special experience to it. They just put a fresh coat of paint over the filth each year.

Of the local new/refurb stadiums, I think Citi Field, MSG and the Rock are vast improvements. Yankee, MetLife, Barclays (for hockey) could have been a lot better. They did a great job in Philly and Pittsburgh with their new venues.

We actually call it, the Annex to Rahway State Prison. Even the interior looks like the cafeteria at a prison.

Shea was big and loud and did have history. Plus it was grass. It became dumpy but still had more character than Veterans, Riverfront, Three Rivers, Old Busch, Candlestick, John Murphy, etc.
