heard from a pretty good source that our best lineup that the staff is most excited about is

Geo
Kiss
Issa
Eugene
Carter

Also heard Harper still needs to get in a little better shape but that he is the best IN GAME deep threat we have. Said hes lights out

I see Harper as being valuable offense off the bench.

And that's a small ball lineup in the sense that it lacks a giant center I guess but that's 6'4", 6'5", 6'10", 6'7", 6'9" and Carter isn't really going to be leaving the paint.

That lineup doesn't have a stretch 4!

Yeah, I don't think that's especially small. A "small ball" lineup would probably be more like Baker/Mathis/Kiss/Thiam/Omoruyi or even McConnell/Baker/Mathis/Kiss/Omoruyi.

Yeah, I mean, the lineup kyk listed is basically the lineup many people thought would be the case. It's NOT our "small ball" lineup. Carter is 6-9, 265, hardly "small" for the C spot.

those are music to my ears. 1.05 points per possession in conference play is something we need to strive for.

The thing is, even those lineups aren't especially "small ball" given the size of our guards.

6-4 Baker
6-4 Mathis
6-5 Kiss
6-6 McConnell
6-6 Harper
6-7 Omoruyi
6-10 Thiam

Those are the names that I'd expect to see on the court playing "small ball"... and that'd have a maximum of just two guys under 6-5 and three under 6-6. We have a lot of height/length this year on the perimeter.

Is EO big enough to play the 5 in a small ball lineup?

Is Carter/Doucoure surrounded by 4 3-point shooters considered small? With Thiam/Harper at the 4? Thiam weight wise is small, not height.

Think Harper is going to be a stud for us , just needs alittle time . Think this year will definitely be more of a developmental year for him in terms of coniditioning and learning how to play at the speed he needs to . I think he can be a mismatch nightmare in the future with his size , ball handling and ability to stroke it . Also , he’s very young for his age so he is still growing into his body and hasn’t reached close to his ceiling yet

Omoruyi played time at the 5 in small lineups already last year. I'd imagine he'd do so again this year, if needed.

The major issue for the team is scoring. Kiss and Geo seem to be the only proven college scorers on the team, so, until someone else shows up, they'll need to get the bulk of the minutes. Hustle won't be an issue, but rebounding will determine the best front court matchups.

I think that’s good line up ...and have been predicting carter at the five for a year now

but think sooner or later, Mathis ends up starting over Issa

By the end of the year...mpg will

Baker 28
Onamuyi 26
Kiss 26
Mathis 26
Carter 26
Harper 18
Thiam 16
Maconnel 12
Doucoure/Johnson/doorson sharing 22

If I recall correctly when Eugene played the 5 Freeman was usually or always at the 4, a proven rebounder. We really don’t have a Freeman on the team to pair up with Eugene

As long as the guards rebound and "everyone" plays team D and rebounds, playing small ball is the way to go.

Don't want to skip over this year(looking forward to seeing the young guys meshing together), but it will be very interesting to see how the minutes get divided next year. With Mulcahy and Young being added into the mix at guard, we almost always will be playing at "least" 3 guards on the court at all times. Granted, the size of a few of the guards are small forwards on most teams.

Best of Luck,
Groz

Small ball is what we had Eddie’s last year when Mike Williams played the 4. Or maybe the 5.

Geo with 2 of the 4 out of Kiss/Mathis/McConnel/Thiam along with Harper and EO at the 4 and 5 is an interesting lineup that is small ball in terms of the bigs but with that extra height at the 3 in Thiam if needed

Center in NBA ....Wayne Embry was only 6’6” (height) ...but also 6’6” thick

If you really want small ball, get all the shooters out there and use our insane length on D:

Geo at the 1
Kiss/Mathis at 2
McConnell at the 3
Harper at the 4
Thiam at the 5

You've got shooters everywhere and then you make up for Thiam's lack of bulk by playing a trapping zone that utilizes all those wingspans.

The crazy thing is our team is so long that is still 6'4", 6'5", 6'6", 6'6", and 6'10".

Theres a lot you can do with this roster

Unless Harper or Issa really takes a big leap as a rebounder, I'd be stunned to see this line-up on the court. But I love the idea!

If Pikiell thinks Issa can hold up on the inside against whatever guy the other team has on the floor at the time, we could possibly see that lineup. Would be fun.

Happy to hear we have a light out deep threat.. but with small ball, I would hope for 3 such shooters... 2 at a minimum.
