Some football board members hearing it looks good...

You Gary lovers get so offended. [roll]

Better start another petition. This time to disallow any citing of facts or opinions that are not 100% supportive of Schiano.
hey ,are you really Rob Ash or Roy Hobbs posting on here?

Compared to what we have now???!!!!!
I'm not saying Schiano wouldn't be better than what we have now. But that's setting the bar way, way too low. The question is if Schiano could meet or exceed his success from the past. And even more importantly, how quickly?

I personally don't see a lot of evidence to suggest he's the right guy. He's a defensive specialist. And right now, even with all that's happened to deplete our defensive depth, our D is playing well enough against good competition to win games. Our biggest problem this season has been a near total lack of offense.

We need to get a lot better on offense, something Schiano doesn't bring. And we have the guy Schiano relied on for offense already.

"a top replacement"? dead give away that the OP is BS. RU to pay the $$$$ necessary for a top replacement? lol.

Also, what""top replacement" would be willing to come here?

We need to recruit better players. What makes so many fans think GS can do this in 2019? $$$$

Schiano would be a godsend. Many coaches have returned from NFL and done amazing! Saban, Caroll, Spurrior, etc.

Schiano's rep has taken a beating in the last 12 months. Between Tenn and the bad defense they have at OSU this year, not sure if recruits will react the same way they did in the past. Remember he was coming off being DC for those Miami championship teams.

He still can't defend the spread, which almost everyone runs these days.

So you are saying he would be perfect for Rutgers?

would be light years better then the Clown show being run currently by Asherror.
Bring Back Schiano!

Yeah, because that’s what we need in order to get us back on track....”hey, at least he’s better than what we have today”. Horrible way of thinking.

Although that’s is even questionable as Schiano’s defense continues to get torn up. His offense would initially be the same since he would keep Mcnulty.

Ohio State is #69 in Total Defense- 400.6 yards per game, just a notch above Rutgers.
#52 in Scoring Defense, giving up 24.6 points per game

Looking at who they played:
Oregon State 411 ypg/27 ppg
Rutgers 271 ypg/14 ppg
TCU 370 ypg/24 ppg
Tulane 392 ypg/25 ppg
Penn State 411 ypg/34 ppg
Indiana 408 ypg/27 ppg
Minnesota 383 ypg/28 ppg
Purdue 460 ypg/32 ppg
Nebraska 461 ypg/30 ppg
Mich. State 346 ypg/20 ppg
Maryland 381 ypg/31 ppg
Opponent Average: 390 yards per game// 26. 5 ppg

Ohio state is below average in total offense (ypg) against the competition and slightly above average in Scorning Defense (ppg).
Pretty underwhelming for a 10-1 team with all of that 4 and 5 star talent.
Michigan State's defense crushes Ohio State 320 ypg/18.7 ppg with a much lower level of talent

Schiano would be able to recruit, something we have been unable to do for a number of years.

better way of thinking?..lets keep the current Clown show with ten straight losses, and waste more money by shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic by hiring/firing asst coaches?
Only at Rutgers...

You seem to be really limited in your reasoning abilities.

Life isn't about binary choices and problem solving is never binary. It's not "Ash or Schiano". There are other options. What challenges you, intellectually, is that those options require careful evaluation and strategic planning and aren't likely to happen "right now".

For those of us who aren't toddlers, there's nothing wrong with planning for an ideal solution that isn't "right now". It's how you avoid throwing good money after bad.

My guess is that none of the millions of dollars at stake here are actually yours.

Totally agree with RU4Real

Just because you think someone is better than Ash, doesn’t mean you should spend $10 million to make it happen.
Don’t want to spend all that money, and still suck.

Needs to be a good replacement with high ceiling
Not just change for the sake of change
We don’t have the $ to play that game

There was nothing even remotely pompous about what he said.

You often post as if there are only two possible answers to any issue; in this case, our coaching problem. You come across as someone who is extremely uncomfortable with all the gray areas and nuance that exist in the world.

He was reminding you that the world isn't nearly as black and white as you might wish it to be. And you seemed to need that reminder, based on your posts on this subject.

I have the poster to whom you responded on ignore, but I readily guessed the poster.

Those are your opinions about why he would do better than Ash, or Flood. None of that explains what makes Schiano a more realistic hire than anybody else.

Let me ask it this way. What makes other coaches unrealistic hires that doesn't also apply to Schiano?

I can't answer this question. I don't know what other coaches have gotten feelers...hell I don't know if Schiano has.

I agree 100%.BuT, who is this slam dunk proven power five guy RU will spend the money to hire?

I really don't view Schiano as a realistic hire (in terms of his wanting to come here) unless he can't find work elsewhere. Even if we reach out to him, I would think he'd put us off until exhausting all other avenues.

Because, as the cliche says, you can never go back. It can work, but it rarely does.

And, ironically, I think that many of the same people clamoring for him to come back would be among the very first people to turn on him if he struggled the first few years, which seems likely for any coach coming in right now, no matter who that coach might be.

GS has many flaws. Defense is not one of them. This is his 3rd year there. Give me the body of work.

Agree. I think that RU is Greg’s last resort, safety school. He will only come here if we are his best offer. And he will want us to pay full rate for a B1G HC.

He will look for a 5-7 year commitment and can reach retirement living off of our contract.

I don’t want RU to hire someone in Greg’s situation. As someone posted in another thread, Greg is starting to resemble Randy Edsall. That isn’t good for RU.
