Some of the Calls Today?

You guys are simply delusional. There's no conspiracy against Rutgers. It wasn't a particularly well reffed game, but the fouls certainly were fair, overall - how you can say 18-13, in our favor, isn't fair is beyond me. I did think a couple of those out of bounds calls against us were missed, but we also got one clear one that went in our favor that shouldn't have. Big deal. The reason we've been so bad in the B1G is that we've been so bad in the B1G, not the refs.

Agreed. What would be the motivation for not wanting Rutgers to win games? Having an RPI-killer at the bottom of the standings doesn't do the other teams any favors (hypothetically speaking, of course). I don't have any inside information, of course, but I do know that it's inherently beneficial for a given league to have competitive teams...

Bac, you are wrong . a touch doesn't make it possession unless one team has complete control of bal at the time of the violation
So can someone point to the rulebook here? Who is right?

I'm 100 percent right. Ive been coaching high school ball for ten plus years plus dad is a referee at high school level . We discussed this play after the game . It is only backcourt if one team has clear possession of the ball in the front court before it enters the backcourt . The strip of the ball in the front court makes it no ones clear possession and not backcourt violation even if it hits of Corey's leg

From my viewpoint - the TV - it wasn't stripped, Corey just fumbled the pass/hand-off, it went off his leg and therefore a backcourt violation. Nebraska never touched the ball.

I was trying to replay the game online but I don't have the patience to find the play.

It's at 13:51 left in the first half and it's pretty clear the Nebraska player got his hand in and deflected the ball off of Sanders's thigh. Corey did not simply "fumble" the ball. Should not have been a backcourt violation. Having said that, watching the replay "live" it was hard to tell - I could only tell for sure in slow-mo - so getting riled up by this missed call seems overdone. I don't think basketball fans want refs to start reviewing every close play - I know I don't, as it kills the flow of the game.

Thanks for the info. You are correct - it did look like the Nebraska player deflected it - should not have been a violation.

2016-2017 NFHS Basketball Rules Book
Page 59. 9-9-1 "A player shall not be the first to touch the ball after it has been in team control in the frontcourt, if he/she or a teammate last touched or was touched by the ball in the frontcourt before it went to the backcourt."
Page 30. 4-12-3 "Team control continues until:
a. The ball is in flight during a try or tap for goal.
b. An opponent secures control.
c. The ball becomes dead."
and Page 31. 4-12-4 "While the ball remains live a loose ball always remains in control of the team whose player last had control, unless it is a try or tap for goal."

As per the high school rules, the correct call would be a backcourt violation.

The only reason that I thought it was a bad call is that this is the first time ever I saw Coach P get hot with a referee. Coach P was acting like you (the ref) know the rule how could you possibly call that?

The ref was trying to calm down Coach P but I think the ref knew he blew the call which was why he did not give him a technical foul.
