Let me start off by saying anyone in their right mind who wants Jay Williams, a man of zero coaching experience, to take over what I believe is the most difficult head coaching position at the Power Five level is absolutely crazy. Get real. Based on the last 25 years, Hobbs and the fanbase owe it to ourselves to pursue a coach with some matter of encouraging success at the college level.

If Hurley doesn't want to take Zags alleged 2 million for 6 years, then pass. That would put him in the top half of the B1G in salary. I am actually more interested in putting the full court press on Lonergan. At least he has shown he can make the tournament---which to me is the primary qualification in our situation.

Cluess at Iona also seems like an interesting option depending on what happens. Pikiell seems like it's a little too early for him to be a P5 coaching candidate whereas Cluess has had a fair amount of success at Iona.

I'm hoping Hobbs can get creative if we have 2 million to work with. There are some good coaches who would pay attention to that kind of money regardless of our current situation.

When looking at all the candidates mentioned I don't see why Johnny Dawkins isn't considered a great option here at Rutgers.

NBA player----Duke Asst----taken a team to Sweet 16----following year takes them to NYC for NIT-----has recruited Nationally.

Am I missing something ?

seems like a legitimate candidate, way more than williuams

and who would want Williams someone who left Rutgers empty handed when he went to Duke what is he going to tell a recruit I didn't go here either that is not a great selling point

How about Dawkins as HC and JayWill as an assistant?

Not an unreasonable suggestion if JWill would be open to it, which I doubt he would be. Problem with Dawkins is that he was just fired from Stanford. Stanford is a much, much easier job than he would be facing at RU. With all of Stanford's advantages, his record there was underwhelming to put it mildly. I remain confident that Hobbs will attract a coach who will give us a chance to succeed, especially as the facilities are improved. But it really is an arms race. Schools with already great facilities continue to dump alum cash into them to stay ahead. Basketball schools know it is their only revenue sport and way to bring athletic pride to their alums and fund them without pause.

Dawkins made the Sweet 16 two or three years ago and had Stanford in NIT for NYC at least once, which is the equivalent of a true bubble team.

I think he's an option and I'm almost certain would be a consideration if he wants to stay as a head coach.

Asked a buddy who is big into the Pac 12 and watched a lot of Stanford. Said Dawkins' downfall was his offense is overly simplistic and easily scouted. More like a 90s/early 00s NBA type offense than something tailored for college.
