Thank you Kyle Monangai

By that logic, most of this season was "meaningless" to KM's draft stock, so why did he play at all?
Good question Micah Parson sat out an entire season and got picked in the 1st round. Maybe he just wanted to satisfy desperate fans. 🤦‍♂️

lol at Deion Sanders. The guy lecturing about commitment built his entire team on players that committed elsewhere and threw the players that committed to Colorado under the bus. What an ass. NIL contracts change the give and take equation a little but hopefully he is not extorting guys to play who might otherwise make other choices. Most bowl games are meaningless exhibitions and a bit of fun, and whether stars play their last game or younger players get an extra opportunity on a big stage it's a win.
Deone Sanders didn’t create the free agency system that is now college football, the players from Colorado you say he threw under the bus were free to go where their services were sought.
He has completely resurrected a dead program.
I don’t consider bowl games meaningless exhibitions and I’m sure GS doesn’t either

You can’t hope he doesn’t play and respect his decision to play… doesn’t compute.

You can let him decide what’s best for him and what’s important to him.

I wouldn’t in a million years hope Hollin Pierce doesn’t play

Hollin Pierce probably should play. It’s a different situation. Left tackles are in high demand in the NFL so a stellar performance against a different conference could potentially make a difference in terms of where he’s drafted.

It simply doesn’t matter how many yards Kyle rushes for - RBs are not high demand draft picks. Unless your suggesting we’re going to plan to showcase his receiving skills or something else he hasn’t put on display yet that he brings to the table, there’s nothing he can do at this point. And even at that it wouldn’t move the needle all that much.

Also - Just because I’d prefer not to see him endure any further risk to his body before the draft - why should that mean I wouldn’t respect whatever decision he makes while you would? That doesn’t make sense. Just because I’m apparently more risk averse than you regarding this, doesn’t mean I’d be less accepting of an alternative outcome to the one I prefer.

Risk averse?
Now college football fans are contemplating risk/reward and have rendered non playoff bowl games as meaningless exhibitions

Hollin Pierce playing against a different conference…lol

Yes, absolutely. Because like it or not, that’s what the games other than the playoffs and one or two other bowl games are at this point. The win last year was awesome - it was local and in front of a ton of fans. It didn’t mean we were better than Miami though. Half their team didn’t play.

Yeah - if we were playing in the bowl game Minny played last year vs some MAC team, I’d say he should sit it out too in that case. Same logic. But we’re going to be going up against a major conference offense that will have NFL talent on it in a match up where there isn’t prior film of him. He’s going to be high enough up in the draft pecking order where differentiating himself a few spots could make a big difference. There is way more personal upside for him to play than Kyle.

So he quit on his team.
Wonderful
I don’t personally care about his reasons. He said Covid was his reason. He sat out an entire season and still got drafted in the first round.

So stop with your BS, Kyle doesn’t need to play in a meaningless bowl game to raise his draft grade. It’s purely for you, the desperate fan.

Nothing he could do would raise his draft profile. If there was, perhaps there’d be an argument. Fans don’t want to hear that the game doesn’t matter and in fairness, there’s perhaps a better spin than can be put on it.

The lower tier bowls present:

1) an opportunity for schools to show their fans what they have to look forward to the following season. A preview of sorts.

2) one extra chance for certain players to showcase themselves to scouts / differentiate their skills from others. (Kyle was just voted first team BIG - he doesn’t fall into this category).

3) an opportunity for seniors who are unlikely to make it at the NFL level to have one more game in the spotlight (again - not Kyle).

These 3 things aren’t “meaningless” on a whole, they just don’t mean anything with respect to Kyle’s decision. There’s a distinction there worth noting…

Flip side is maybe you don’t want to showcase players that can get poached at bargain price.

That’s an excellent point. However, my broad take on this is that there are so many low tier bowl games, and any success in them will largely be taken with a grain of salt by outsiders. There could be exceptions if someone puts up crazy stats that make national news or something, but for the most part the risk probably isn’t that high? I’m asking this. Certainly don’t know it for sure. But I don’t think any of the guys who made a few promising plays last year in the Pin Stripe bowl for us suddenly became major portal targets?

Think of the absurdity!
Concerned risk averse fans thanking KM and hoping he opts out of our bowl.

KM’s absence opens the door for Antwan Raymond to shine on a National stage, in doing so he grabs the attention of suitors willing to pay him a sum we can’t match.

Can’t make it up… all true Plum😊

I was just being objective about those concerns.

I understand.
In regard to our program, our momentum, our record, our positive press and not showcasing our talent.
Selfishly if you feel the need to classify it that way… this program is better off if Kyle plays,
Do you agree?

Perhaps I’m incorrect, but i feel our Miami victory regardless of their roster strength was a big positive for Rutgers football last year.

For the program ….yes probably better if he plays. But would be good to get young guys looks and reps. There are pros and cons of that scenario
For Kyle …definitely better for him if he doesn’t play. There are no pros and a big possible con in that scenario
