The 1927 Rutgers football season was over and the Rutgers basketball team opened its season with two wins when their December 14, 1927 game with CCNY was scheduled for the Ballantine Gym. “At the start of the battle Coach Frank Hill started a ‘football five’ with Causy and Mark at forward, Gowdy in the center circle and Rosen and Gordinier, guards… the regular five were sent into action shortly afterwards,” according to the December 14, 1932 Daily Home News. CCNY hung on for a 29-25 victory.
