The Faculty has issued a "public rebuke" of Flood

Our faculty sucks. They are doing more harm than Flood ever could.

They need to collectively be held accountable for our ranking continuing to fall. Enough is enough.

Let's give Flood and the faculty long term extensions and see who winds up with the better record, lol...Flood is a mediocre coach that broke many rules to win games...

And what does all that data have to do with Kyle Flood being a bad head coach that breaks the rules?
Hughes complained that Flood used his status as a millionaire coach to intimidate a lowly part-time professor. Hughes totally misrepresents the situation. If you think Flood's actions imply some level of sinister act then you really are buying into the hype. He never coerced the instructor to change a grade. While his communications appear desperate, he should be judged by his results, not for some violation of a school policy that was never formally disseminated to the Atheletic Department employees.

It is wishful thinking to believe Flood will be canned without severance. Rutgers had no formal training program in place for atheletic department policies and procedures. You cannot get fired for violating policies/procedures for which you have no documented training. One of the recommendations that came from the external council's report is to establish a formal, documented training program.

Next thing we'll be hearing is, "Flood lied, people died". This shit is so overblown and the gullible public over reacts.

Damn, I miss Jerry Izenberg, Paul Franklin and Harvey Yavener. Real journalism is, for the most part, dead.
Don't forget Joe Calebrese, the most beloved SL Rutgers beat writer! God took him too early. He should have been here to see the realization of our entry into the B1G (my father too).

Tenured full professors are the highest paid in the nation, yet the results don't support their high salaries. Why does Rutgers lag behind it's peers despite the benefits of location, high quality students and wealth?

Actually, rankings that give significant weight to what TT and tenured faculty at an R1 institution actually do rate us quite highly.

It's times like this that I wished our coach was a black, jewish, gay, lesbian, transgendered, reformed nazi catholic-hating, guido and harp despising, participation trophy giving dude or post op dude so we could finally not have to deal with this. Come on Julie!!!

That is a lot of bottled-up hate that you have. God bless you. May you find peace someday.

It's shocking that there summary points are all agreeable.

Are we surprised (summarized):
1. The school did not look for other incidents
2. They feel the football program went from a pride to embarrassment academically
3. First player in many years to be ineligible
4. Feel program is out of control with violations & arrests
5. Feel flood has not kept control of the team

I think all of their points could be copied off this board 1-2 weeks back.
Leave it to the professors to be 1-2 weeks behing the general public in their feeling about the program!!!! Way to try to stir some controvery Star-Loser- beat a dead horse often.

If I was Carroo's lawyer I would find out how many of the RU Police had a sexual relationship with the victim. She worked there and they knew her, and they sided with her and would not issue a charge by the girl friend. There was a reason for that. She had sex with Carroo, she had sex with Shawn, she probably had sex with her police friends.
WOAH!!! That's something I did not know - this should have been handed off to another jurisdiction as it was a conflict of interest.

I admire the faculty for taking a strong position that supports the academic integrity of the university. Flood is largely responsible for making RU a national laughingstock both on and off the football field. I don't disagree with anything in the faculty resolution. Flood needs to go now!

They issued a 'public rebuke'? C'mon faculty--grow a pair and issue a Fatwah against the football program! Further more, if 8 of you protesting was enough to get Condi Rice to cancel her invitation to commencement, then why don't your Gang of 8 show up at a football game chanting 'Death to Football, Death to Football"?

The faculty wishes they were on the par with the top programs in the B1G like Michigan and Northwestern. Maybe we need to get more actively involved to push the academic side in the same way we are pushing the athletic program across the board. The faculty and coaches are here to serve the students, not the other way around. They are paid to strive to be the best, those who can't understand that, those who can't appreciate the honor and prestige that comes with the B1G should consider a different employer where they might be more happy.
AAAAaaaa yea what he said. Let's do this. What's your plan. Let's see professor's already one of the tops in pay. Now coaches bottom 10% let's get them some more money what do ya say. So they can be on par with their peers just like the faculty.

RU has reviewed the situation and issued its punishment to Coach Flood for his offense. That should be the end of it and RU should stick to that. The faculty just piling on at this late hour and demanding more is "disturbing" but par for the course where RU athletics is involved. RU has shown in the past its inability to control a brush fire and if people keep a story going RU tends to "re-think" things and cave. As I've said in other threads, RU athletics has a "kick me" sign taped to its back and we let it remain there, inviting people to keep kicking.

The faculty is reveling in this. They want Flood fired. Then when that happens and we search for the next coach the faculty and SL will scream and yell about the salary that will have to be paid and the cost of the football program. Then we'll cave and go cheap again and we'll repeat the cycle that brought us KF and Mike Rice. And the beat will go on.

We are in the Big Ten. Start acting like it.

The kick me sign starts with the punishment. Miss 3 games / no media for 3 weeks.

This punishment made the story carry on for the 3 weeks - ensuring the issue is mentioned at each game.

There were really 3 choices:
1. Fire him
2. Slap him on the wrist
3. Fine and 1 game penalty

The PR problems are internal - leaks and punishments that last for weeks.

I don't think the faculty council is representative of the faculty. It's true the council members are picked by the individual units, but those who run tend to be from a small self-selected group of activists whose politics are not in the mainstream. Don't tar the whole faculty with what the council does.

A lot of silly lashing out at academics. This may come as a shock to some of you but a university really does exist for academics and not sports. Flood broke the rules and they are clear rules. He is the one tearing down rutgers football, not the faculty.

Amazing. The faculty basically repeats what this board says, but they're "big bad Ivy League wannabe liberals" and are wrong.

Rutgers University. Where airing our dirty laundry for all the world to see is a way of life.

I must have missed where the faculty's political views have anything to do with Flood's slap on the wrist for serious rule breaking that has harmed the school as a whole.

I agree that this is not a political thing. However, it's arguable how serious the "rule breaking" was. And I guess I'm not quite sure how the school was harmed by Flood's actions. The football program was harmed for sure, but the school?

I think you may be confusing their petulant, faux outrage over Flood's effort to breach their ivy-covered walls in order to keep an alleged criminal academically eligible with your own petulant, faux outrage over Flood not giving snaps to his second-string quarterback.

Yes. The school's reputation is called into question when a coach decides to put his disdain for compliance with it into writing.

Ah, ahhh, aaaaahhHH BULLSHIT! Pardon me. Must be hay fever season.

So anyway, you're so right - RU's reputation is totally ruined. We should probably burn the entire school to the ground. Flood ruined Rutgers forever by overstepping his bounds in his effort to help out a player on the team.

While we're at it, let's rip up the NJ Turnpike. I was out there the other day and I saw an estimated 95% pure disdain for speed limit compliance. Oh wait, you're going to tell me that Flood trying to help out a player is worse than people creating a potentially deadly situation on the highway. My bad.

Wait, we're not done yet. We have to burn down every building in every state with a sales tax. Because at least one person in each such state has failed to report and pay sales tax on items purchased over the internet. Such disdain for compliance.

Now that I think about it, disdain for compliance with the 10 commandments is at an all-time high. The planet's reputation is beyond repair. Guess we have to burn the whole damn thing.

People with your attitude are the precise reason why things just to crap because you have no standard for anything.

Why do people keep defending fludd? He's a disaster in every way.

My guess is

50% would support any HC because they view college football like intramurals, and/or they did not attend RU so don't care about the reputation of the school
25% Friends and family of Flood
25% Friends and family of James Franklin/flaming/contrarianism

For once they may be on the side of the fans...

The Rutgers New Brunswick Faculty Council issued a resolution that deemed his penalties "incommensurate with the gravity of his violations of university policies and ethical standards'' and called on the university administration to "halt and reverse the decline in the ethical and academic standards in our football program and the continuing damage to the university's reputation.''

You can guess who reported it...

This is typical Union Political BS.
There is nothing to see here.

People with your attitude are the precise reason why things just to crap because you have no standard for anything.
Not true at all. I obviously have a standard for how much I can take of listening to you bitch and moan and make everybody as miserable as you. For the love of all that's good; give it a freaking rest already.

They are doing more harm than Flood ever could.

I'm not going to demonize the entire faculty. But the whack jobs in the faculty that are publicly airing the school's dirty laundry are doing way, way, way more harm to the school's reputation than Flood.

Do they have some legitimate gripes and concerns? Sure they do. But it's an internal family matter. It does no good for RU to make it national news.

No no.. Those dirty numbers and facts are in the way again!

http://news.rutgers.edu/news-releas...-universities-according-center-world/20140716

Rutgers University-New Brunswick has been ranked 33rd among the world’s top 1,000 universities this year by the Center for World University Rankings – marking a dramatic rise in the ranking of the university’s flagship campus.

Whoops!

Yes who needs to be 33rd in the world when Flood is writing emails saying I'm breaking rules for a drunk driver who breaks jaws when we haven't had player get ineligible in a decade!
