THE OFFICIAL RUTGERS-NEW MEXICO PREDICTION THREAD

NM gets a few TDs to start, then gets bottled up and knocks in a few FGs in the second half. Rutgers is able to move the ball on the ground all day, racking up over 300 rushing yards.
Rutgers 38-20

Rutgers hackers enter New Mexico State computer and drain the prep info for their victory over the Mighty Lobos. They find secret to recruiting outstanding pass rushers who crushed the NM QB. They love a governor who loves pot.

Are people overhyping NM for a reason? They have looked awful in their first two games... RU 43-10 them
Um what games did you watch? I watched their entire game against NMSU and they blew at double digit lead in the 4th. Their defense is not great but their running attack is lethal with some tremendous athletes. I honestly think we lose unfortunately

If our D looks like it did in the first 2 games starting this game, we could run into problems...but, I believe Ash takes care of the slow starts and really schools our guys on keeping the edge.

RU 28 NM 17

RU - 49 NM- 10
Defense gets off to a fast start this week finally and sets the tone early with a forced turnover. NM never recovers.

Bad news/ good news:

Bad news: my gut feeling says

New Mexico 44
Rutgers 21

Good news: my overall record at predicting these types of games accurately is mixed at best.

I think we spot them at least 14 points again to start the game, and then play catch up for the rest of the game and squeeze out a close win in the end.

I think we beat the Lobos but don't cover the spread. My revised predictions for the remainder of the season are:

New Mexico W 35-31
Iowa L 24-35
@Ohio St L 14-43
Michigan L 21-37
Illinois W 32-26
@Minnesota L 30-33
Indiana W 38-35
@Mich St L 20-35
Penn St W 32-29
@Maryland W 34-32

So far we haven't shown any improvement over what the computers predict but I'm still hopeful that we improve as the season progresses and that we finish strong and get to 6-6.

Rutgers 30- New Mexico 27

Rutgers could easily lose this game because of the difficulty in stopping the triple option used by service academies.The home field advantage will be the difference in this game.Hope the weather is cooler than the Howard game.

When you consider your prediction note that their starting RB and starting mlb are out for this game. Losing your #1 running option on a triple option offense has to hurt.

I keep having nightmares about the first half of the Howard game.

RU 21
UNM 34

I can see another slow start by Rutgers, trailing by two, maybe three TDs before the end of the first quarter. We will come screaming back scoring about four unanswered TDs. Final score: 37-28 Rutgers.

I know most of these predictions came out before the news that their #1 running back and top LB and Captain are out for the game.

RUTGERS 33 New Mexico 31 in front of an announced crowd of 46,112

It says here (in my paper from the future), that RU wins: 48 -25. Grant Runs back a Punt for a TD, Scores on Wildcat / a catch in the end zone...and passes for a TD to Harris as well!

Hicks / Martin run for over 250 yards....Sneed with a TD scamper in 4th qtr.

Oden runs / passes ...and passes the eye test.

Laviano moved to blocking TE.

MO

With Laviano as starter, we get behind early. By the time Ash pulls him and puts Gio in it could be too late, unless Gio has a magic arm. I hope he can pass as well as he runs. That would be a great way to begin the GR era. Go Gio.

NM 41
RU 17

UNM can run for a few zillion yards, but I don't think the Lobos can stop anybody. The trick is we can't stop ourselves. If we don't, we'll win.

Rutgers 41, New Mexico 31

This is a simple question, as it purely comes down to defense. The Lobos can't seem to play any when it matters. They just lost a close rivalry game, so they should be playing with fire shooting out of their asses, so we will see how the Lobos respond. The coaches need to call a better game as well.

The loss of Cox and Gipson is huge, so I'm predicting a Lobos loss. I hope they prove me wrong and somebody steps up to fill the gaps.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights 54, New Mexico Lobos 35

We will be in section 106 and hope to tailgate with the RU fans a bit before the game.
