Renovating the outside is like putting lipstick on a pig. People need to look around the B1G and see what our peers have, specifically Maryland and Ohio State. Renovating the outside of the RAC won't make our facility competitive with theirs.

The RAC needs to be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up. Or build a new basketball facility on Busch.

Of course it does at some point - that point is not now.

We have some other replacing to take care of first

Al, I agree with you, but not now. We need to build the practice facilities and upgrade the RAC and existing locker rooms inside before razing the RAC. For now, an outstanding practice facility plus cosmetic fixes will do the trick for the foreseeable future. Let's get the program going again and turn that around and then we might see a new BB facility. But not right now. There are other priorities that need to be met first.

I doubt that the RAC will be demolished because it could be converted and used by other teams .

Yes, there is a need for a new basketball arena with attendance in the 10,000-12,000 range.Reality is that it won't happen until 2021 or later because of the lack of financial resources for such a project. The practice facility might not be ready to 2017-18.

Got to get one of those Teslas or 700 series BMW's that blow by me on the highway from time to time. Bet I could get laid a lot more if I had one of those.

oh, that's right. I can't afford one right now. oh well. Maybe I'll just wash my car and work on my driving!

Short answer. Of course who wouldn't want one of those but not now.

Al. You ripped alumni for not giving but you didn't post in the thread about the 1mm donation for hale center.

I know your miam fan first but what gives?

Al has a good point though. Eventually the RAC needs to be replaced. If we are building a practice facility hopefully it is being built near where the new Arena would be.

Let's see if we can get close to 7000 people in attendance consistently before we decide it's time to raze and rebuild. With our track record in basketball, that could still be a decade away.

I am going to put a deferment in my will that says don't cremate me until RU makes the next dance. I figured they can dig up my a$$ , light me on fire and throw a hell of a party. I am sure I'll be gone by then anyway.

Rutgers does need a new arena but the RAC shouldn't be torn down. A 12,500-14,500 seat arena would be ideal for men's and women's hoops and the RAC can become the perminant home for wrestling, volleyball and gymnastics.

Could not disagree more. Fix the RAC and make it our Cameroon Indoor Stadium or Palestra. B1G recently did a poll as the most intimidating arena in the B1G and you know which arena won? Not the cookie-cutter, soul sucking, mult-purpose, can't tell the difference betwen the Kohl Center, Nebraska, PSU, OSU, MSU, etc, but rather good old Assembly Hall at Indiana.

We should be embracing and fixing the RAC as unique. Put air conditioning in. Fix the lockerrooms. Blow out 118, complete the pit and expand the concourse. Be creative. The one cool thing we have and so many of you want a generic multi purpose arena where you will end up with crummy sight lines, far from the action and no atmosphere.

Recruits would love to play in a rabid RAC if we were winning.

Based on some of the posters, the football stadium should've never been built.

Agree that the RAC needs to be replaced or totally upgraded .
But like some have posted, other issues need to be taken care of first and
the RAC just has to be prettied up until then and take care of the stuff that needs to be
taken care of first.

In the be careful what you wish for look no further than Giants Stadium being replaced by the craptastic Met Life Stadium or the old Yankee Stadium being replaced by the airport terminal surrounding it.

Perhaps we should put overgrown weeds in the corners of the RAC for a better comparison.

splintered seats, troughs in the men's rooms, push the student sections seats back another 10 rows to emulate the location of the old north end zone, rip down the video boards....should I go on lol

The Rac is a shithole. I can't justify building a brand new practice facility and attachimg it to the RAC. We need an arena where New Brunswick and NJ can share in the revenue from concerts and events. A combo basketball and ice hockey arena. Guess I can keep dreaming but that would a better plan. Tear down the RAC and rebuild a practice complex in its place.

How many sellouts do we have this year? ZERO

We need a 12,000 seat arena?

Better come with a curtain.
The issue with your response is that it fits perfectly with the inattention toward the mens basketball program the past 25 years.Based on the way the team has played since joining the B1G perhaps the College Avenue Gym would be appropriate based on the dwindling fan base.I don't favor such a notion any more than a cosmetic RAC upgrade.Hobbes has stated that Rutgers doesn't have facilities comparable to league competition.

When you think small the mentality of running a athletic department is focused more on dollars and sense than what is needed to run a successful basketball program.

Money doesn't grow on trees. We have a season ticket base of 1500 and you want to build a 12,000 seat arena.

Let's expand Rutgers Stadium to 115K 1st
A season ticket base of 1500 is pathetic but that has been happening over a period time because of the inattention of the athletic department.Nobody that matters cares and the RAC is just a convenient dodge to keep the status quo which satisfies people that don't want to spend money and still moan about the way the team is coached and the won/loss record.

RAC great sightlines and close to the court. Basketball purists love the RAC. Just have to win.

The rac needing to be replaced is far from what is needed right now. There is a basketball court there, 8000 people can sit, the team plays.

Far from what is needed right now. Not even in the conversation.

I love the old time feel of the RAC
It is so unique and is DAMN loud when it is packed and rocking.

All you guys who want a cookie cutter arena just don't get it.
Those places are not designed to be loud.
And they are BORING.

PACK THE RAC!!!

Put me on the list for X NO COOKIE CUTTER MULTI-PURPOSE ARENA X. The RAC is awesome and LOUD when we are good and it's packed and it really is our own Palestra/Cameron Indoor. Do not want generic who-cares NBA-style arena, see: MetLife Stadium.

Why is a "practice facility" so important? Practice in the damn RAC or barn.
With a practice facility players have 24/7/365 access to get up shots and weight lifting. Practice can be closed, you can have an Elite Camp and keep prying eyes away.

It's also where the basketball offices would be and the video room to help prepare for your next opponent.

If you just practice in your arena, you have to schedule around women's basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, graduation ceremonies (if they are held there). Plus the distraction of people wandering around the building during practice.

And then there's the recruiting aspect because kids are always checking out facilities.

That's just off the top of my head.
