The Real Test for Pat Hobbs

Where he is going? North Carolina?
I actually have no idea if any blue blood programs have coaches on the hot seat. Not UNC yet I'd think. But Pike only makes 2 mil a year. I think he loves it here. But if someone offers to double his salary...

It’s true. I hadn’t really given it any consideration. Because he’s had improvement that we’ve noticed prior to now and otherwise had been given short shrift. This team, for now, is ahead of schedule. He’s gonna be a hot commodity. I guess it’s a good problem to have.

Pike is here to stay.

His real test is getting 118 back to the freaking fans and moving the student section closer.

Sadly, Hobbs strikes me as the type of guy that it going to try to build a new arena and make it all shiny and fancy and totally kill the atmosphere at our basketball games.

Yep. And if Pike considers leaving, Schiano would be a good person to talk him out of it.
Seriously , just because we feel he’s here to stay doesn’t mean it’s true. In addition do you really think greg regrets chasing his dream and coaching in the nfl. He’s a pretty spiritual guy. I suspect he’s satisfied with his choices

Been over this before. Big Ten jobs are destination jobs unless it's leaving for a true blue blood or the pros.

UConn has Hurley for a long time. That was the one job I could see Pike leaving for.

- arguably the best conference
- a school he seems to be absolutely in love with
- control of the ship
- funds will not and do not seem to be a problem.

he ain’t leaving for a long time.

He isn't going anywhere.
The B1G season is only half over and the competition in the league is fierce year to year.Pikiell realizes Rutgers is a good spot for him and his family. He likes the challenge of building a program in one of the best basketball leagues in the country.

People forget that Pike has much regard for Hobbs and that was evident when Rutgers nation blamed Hobbs for losing Schiano as a football coach.. Hobbs remaining as AD only helps secure Pike as our HC. If Pike was serious about leaving he would have inquired about the UCONN job .

Pike likes the rebuild process. Other than Rutgers the only rebuild that's a bigger opportunity is the Knicks....

Just IMO, but Pike isn’t going anywhere. He’s a NE guy and there are no “better” jobs available in the NE. If and when UConn becomes available again it might be an option but I don’t see that for 3-4 years and by then Pike will be fully invested in “his” program.

No one thought Greg Schiano would leave...
I think once the Big East imploded it was pretty clear that he might jump. The American was putrid and not a place where an ambitious coach could reach the highest level. I think people were surprised, but they shouldn't have been.

He is already compensated at the middle of the pack in the B1G. If we make the dance he will probably get a small bump. We live in the richest neighborhood in town now, we can afford to pay whatever we need to. Start acting like it.

If he got hired away, it's a good job by him, so I wouldn't even be upset.

Are you even aware that he was extended 2 years ago through 2024....with a raise in line with our increased revenue share from the B1G??

Just looked up his contract. Roughly 3 mil per year over 5 years ending in 2024. That's competitive with everyone but the true blue bloods.

The Big East didn't implode and the American Athletic Conference wasn't formed until well after Schiano left.

Also, supposedly Pernetti was in continual contact with Jim Delany since 2010 regarding Rutgers being invited to the Big Ten. Unless you are in the "all Pernetti did was answer the phone" camp, then you would assume that Pernetti knew in January 2012 that a Big Ten invite was pending by the end of the year, and would have let Schiano know about it.

Section 118 benefited very few people. No one but a handful of fans got the opportunity to ever sit there. So the majority can give a you know what about 118 going back. If it comes back they should be sold as premium seats not cheap seats. This way everyone can possibly have access.

Steve is from a very large family and is an easterner. He absolutely loves it at RU and loves his players, coaching staff, the administration and the fans. HE GETS IT. He is in the best league in the entire country. I do not see him leaving. Willard might as he was tempted last year and he loses his best 3 players in Powell, McKnight and Gill. I have spoken with Steve very often and I believe he will be here for many more years.

1. It is silly to speculate whether or not Pikiell would leave without really knowing him or some of the external factors that are crucial (primarily family)

2. Hobbs---he gave him an extension and deferred $ and Pike has a penalty if he leaves early. I am thinking Hobbs has already taken a large portion of the test and so far looks pretty good.

IMO, not until they join a real conference. It's a lateral move at best, backwards most likely to leave the B1G for that
