Big 10 leading Rutgers W BB, #14 in the AP poll, hit the road, and take on the #17 Iowa Hawkeyes tonight , 8pm. This will be a very tough game for RU, who sit atop the Big10 with a 7-0, 15-3 record. RU is on a 10 game win streak ! Iowa is 5-2 in Conference play, 15-4 overall.

Hall of Fame Coach C Vivian Stringer, previously coached at Iowa, and will be honored pregame for achieving her 1,000th win. While RU gets a lot of contribution from about 11 players, lately the team has seen Stasha Carey (30 points last game !), Criani Cryor and Arella Giurantes as key contributors.

Iowa is led by star Megan Gustafson, who leads the nation in double/doubles. RU's vaunted defense will have it's work cut out for them. Iowa leads the Big10 in scoring in both league play and overall play.

Personally, I don't expect Rutgers to have a difficult time with this game. Iowa sometimes gets these rankings for reasons I don't understand.

I'm not exactly sure how RPI's are calculated, but Iowa has a higher RPI than Rutgers right now. Strength of schedule comes in to some degree, quality of wins and losses as well, the rest, I have no idea:

They put up a lot of points, averaging 80.2 per game (17th nationally) behind Gustafson's 26.2... while we're only allowing 53.9 per game (9th nationally). Definitely a test.

The only team we've faced so far that has scored more than Iowa has been Drake (81.1). MSU averages 79.6, though, and we held them to 62, while Maryland averages 76.7 and we held them to 65.

Iowa's defense is giving up 68.8 per game (266th nationally)

RPI generally involves your record and your strength of schedule - which involves your opponents records and their opponents records. That's it.

Quality of wins and losses come into committee NCAA selection, but not the RPI. The RPI of the opponent you beat or lost to is a major factor in determining the quality of the win or loss.
